What does /k/ recommend for knives at work? I work shipping at a furniture company and open a fuck ton of boxes. Something around the size of a box cutter as to not freak out the fat cunts I work with.
>>
My budget is around 130$
>>
If it's only opening boxes I'd just get a comfier utility knife. The cheap orange HDX ones feel decent. If you're chopping up the boxes after you'd want something bigger, maybe a blue Spyderco Tenacious - decent belly for cutting, blue for that "safety" look
>>
>>33309182
Exactly what you have there. I've run freight crews of 30+ people doing 3000-4000 cases a night and that's going to destroy any blade. You don't want to spend money on that. A simple box knife with replaceable blades will do everything you need and not get all fucked up. When the blade goes to shit you take it out and recycle it and put in a new one.

Don't be the guy that shows up with some fancy bullshit knife and starts cutting up the product inside boxes because his blade it too long and uncontrollable.

Don't listen to this looOOOser.

Get one of these for each hand and you will be a god.
>>
>>33309549
Looks like carpal tunnel syndrome to me
>>
>>33309182
Any of those folding box cutters you see in every hardware store. Whichever one feel the nicest and has the easiest blade change mechanism.
>>
>>33309182
get a swiss army knife.

don't waste money getting a clip blade, you will lose it.

swiss army knife is the best utility knife... get the camper version of the victorinox

/thread
>>
>>33309410 That's the problem I'm on. The company I work for is super cheap and we have to buy replacement blades for the boxcutters from our own wallets. So I thought I'd find something I could bring in instead that I could also just use for household things.
>>
>>33309182
Man unless you're especially "into" knives, I see no reason to get anything over 40 dollars. I have an Ontario RAT-1 that I use as a work horse and it holds an edge pretty well.

Once you start buying more gucci knives with super special snowflake steels you're getting diminishing returns. If you're into that stuff, more power to you. But it's not stuff that is worth the cost for a utility knife.

If it's comfy in your hand, has a smooth action and holds a decent edge, that's all you need.
>>
>>33309648
>>33309182
Oh and I'll recommend to you

>Kershaw Leek
>Ontario RAT-1 or 2 depending on how big you want it
>Spyderco tenacious

Those are the usual "go-to" knives.
>>
>>33309648 Well that's good for me. I've started collecting knives and hatches while taking blacksmithing courses from a company, so I'm all in for the knives in general.
>>
>>33309620
That's BS, tell them to buy blades so you can do your job.
>>
Uh.
A box cutter.
>>
>>33309182
Well, a box cutter would be ideal for opening boxes. If you want something you can defend yourself with, a karambit would work nicely.
>>
On a $130 budget, get a Leatherman Wave and use the knife on that. It's practical, has a lot more uses than just the knife, and as a multitool, won't look a lot like a weapon to most normies. Plus, it has a really nice knife. You'll find them for around $90-100, and with the leftover $30 you can buy the Bit Kit and get even more functionality out of it.

Can't go wrong with a Leatherman.

I used to use https://www.amazon.com/Havalon-61182-Piranta-Folding-Knives/dp/B00AAJO9R6 at my work for boxes and cutting through plastic wrap. Works better than any pocket knife I've tried.

Those suck ass for when a box isn't taped completely square and you have to dig to get under an edge of cardboard, or when someone Hulk-taped the box and rolled the corner.

A double-ended slide out box cutter with a normal blade on one end and pic related on the other is GOAT tho.
>it also works great for cutting golf grips off clubs
>>
>>33312883
If you break it Leatherman replaces it free. I've worn out/broken a few over the years. Postage is cheap. Totally worth it.

If I were cutting boxes all day I'd just buy bulk blades for one with a decent handle and call it good. I have several box cutters and for a lot of utility work find them better than a conventional blade.
>>
>>33309182
you definitely should be rocking a chris reeves sebenza, homes. that is exactly what it's made for, cutting box mailing open.

Until you accidentally look at it too hard and roll the edge.

I take back what I said earlier (>>33313996) OP should get a real knife. A XL Espada, fuck scaring the sheeple, they should be scared.

Here you go OP.
I've used mine as an EDC for three years. Have used it constantly to open boxes/packages, cut through thick cardboard (to fit smaller pieces in container) sharpen pencils, and everyday knife-use worthy activities.
No complains.
Best part, if it does break, I can always afford another.

>>33309620
Keep a dull blade and work slowly if that's what they want.

-Back is hard enough to break glass/window if needed.
-Bottle opener on end, thumbs up
-Durable spring with positive lock
-Durable and sturdy clip

Honestly OP, great knife.
I'll post a pic of back side too.

if you want a "cool" or "tactical knife: cold steel fgx series. plastic, so completely harmless in most peoples eyes, cheap (~10 bucks), virtually every possible shape available.

if you actually want a tough working knife I'd go with a (folding) box cutter since you can replace the blade instead of sharpening. Mora or Glock 78 might also be an option, both are tough and cheap.

I'd recommend not to blow the whole budget on a single knife as cardboardboxes (perhaps even with tacks still in them) will ruin any knife pretty quick.

I think I've had this one for a few years, it came with a pack of blades, and a bulk pack of blades isn't bad cost wise.
>>
>>33312885
Are you saying it doesn't work for opening boxes?

I have a S&W CKTACS for this purpose, but I see no reason why a medium-sized Victorinox wouldn't work. I'd go with a Camper or Fieldmaster if you plan on going this route.

Personally though, I'd just stick to a box cutter for you're doing.
