How come the germans were the only country that used pattern camo widely through WW2, with them starting to use it quite a lot even in WW1?
>>33304173
Because for better or worse, the Germans tried to make up for their inherent disadvantages in manpower and industry through innovation and quality.
> only country that used pattern camo widely through WW2
This is not really true. Other than SS or Fallschrimjaeger units, most German soldiers just wore field gray. And the US equipped their marines with camo in the pacific.

Camouflage patterns used to be substantially more difficult and expensive to produce. Take a popular wartime Allied camo textile, the British Denison Smock. This jacket was simply hand painted with dyes before being issued. The process was long and laborious. The Germans simply valued and invested a lot more time into camo patterns (though they were far from the norm).

Das it mane
Camo is a real bitch when you have to hand sew it.

That doesn't make much sense. The Germans had far less supplies and it wasn't the method of producing the camo that was the expensive part (its just press printed), the grade of cotton was important to take the dye. Allies had far more in the way of supplies for uniform material.
This pattern was given to both regular army and SS in 1945 and served as the basis for ERDL

That's a second pattern smock that is screen printed, certainly not hand painted.

Liebermuster. It also became Alpenflage.

US Army in WWII did not want to use camouflage in the European Theater for fear of friendly fire incidents.

This. Some troops were issued camo in the 2nd Armored Division, but they stopped being handed out fairly quickly due to that fear. Pretty sure they never gave enough of a fuck to issue replacements if you already had one.

That makes sense
interesting, here they are in Normandy
German camo is so aesthetic tho
I just remembered I used to have one of these shirts
I got it from my dad or somewhere an used to use it when playing innawoods with stick guns when I was like 8

If armies had known the benefit like we do now they probably would have streamlined the process. Tie die anyone?
