I've played all the good Hitman, MGS, Splinter Cell, and Sniper Elite titles, and Dishonored. Are there any good stealth games I'm missing? Autistic realism and detail is preferred.

Through it not exactly /k/, Thief is a pretty good stealth game. The controls are kind of clunky and graphics aren't that great but this can be fixed with some mods.

Wish they would make a remaster in Source or something. And I mean a fan remaster, not triple A bullshit like that 2014 game.

I feel like that game will just be another way to design maps lazily in a more "open world" style. Just like rising storm 1. I hope it proves me wrong. That shit make me so mad.
The russian/german maps were superb before that, even if they did have some poorly designed choke points I'd have appreciated them modding out a bit.
>>
>>33302321
>design maps lazily in a more "open world" style
And I should add, the snowy open map in the first one was brilliantly designed, which is the exception to the rule.
>>

It's a fun game, but stealth gets way too easy around the midway point

True, it's not my favourite, I was just covering all the mainstream games I've played. If only there were a realism mod for it, that'd be incredible.

The game really needs flow where youre not just fucking rushing and dying, i wanna be able to re-enact the longshot scene in fmj where they were going into the city.
> ro2 = feels like a fuckin battle and has lines.

That's what made the original ww2 call of duty and united offensive so much fun, both single player and MP.
They designed maps, shamelessly stealing entire scenes/towns from band of brothers etc. They made maps feel like battles, not killboxes which seems to be the popular thing today.

>They made maps feel like battles, not killboxes which seems to be the popular thing today.
But killboxes lead to the most kills and that leads to the most level ups. People like level ups and killing.
The more you have of both the better for the average consumer.
>>
>>33303019
CoD 1/UO didn't have a level system and that's a large part of the reason they were superior.
>>33302849
I miss UO's glory days, LotR maps were top-tier. Have you tried Brothers in Arms? I don't hear it talked about much here on /k/ but it's probably the best WW2 FPS out there for the autistic /k/ommando (Hell's Highway is the worst but still worth a shot).

The entire Men of War series is absolutely worth it.

The second game in the series, Red Tide, has a lot of stealth content actually, with many missions giving you only one squad consisting of guys with silencers and a sniper.
>>
>>33303248
Closed, they do the betas in waves where they send out keys at the start of each wave.
>>
>>33303821
Men of War really shines in coop too, I think Red Tide needs a mod for it and the older games will require you to use tungle, gameranger or direct IP + open ports (easy if you aren't tech-illiterate) but it's worth the hassle.

Red Orchestra and Rising Storm used to be really fun at first, but it got pretty boring. Just the same couple of maps with almost no updates and the balance of the game is horrendous. They allow flamethrowers on defense for the Americans FFS. Don't even get me started with the fact that trying to play the Soviet side on RO2 is a pain in the ass because the only people left playing the damn game is the Naziboos. It didn't help it when the developers gave them a prototype STG and MG-42 (the former wasn't even at Stalingrad; the latter was less than 5).

There is also bugs that have been around for YEARS and still not fixed. Rising Storm 2 will have the same problems.

>>
>>33310944
I wasn't into it back then but basically compared to RO1 they thought it was a more casual and smaller scale experience, with balance and realism issues. IIRC more vehicles were promised than what they got, and as we know vehicles are a minor part of the game compared to RO1 where it had big maps and vehicles like a BF game. The realism and balance stuff is obvious to this day, autistic gun upgrades and MG42s/MKB42s/PPS43s that shouldn't have been there, as well as unrealistic recoil and damage for muh balance. Also some devs said some stupid shit after so many complaints, like "we never said it was going to be like RO1" or something.

I would've been pissed at the time, but they seem more professional about things now. With RS2 rather than telling realism addicts to suck a dick they're assuring them its no more arcadey than the last game.

>>33311214
No CO-OP, no fun.
>>
>>33311047

The maps aside of the most recent have almost zero shadows so they look like, 2001 Day of defeat grade. I dunno why but for some reason it just doesn't appeal to me like RS or RO2 does. Western front has kind of gotten old and stayed old I feel like. If any server lplayed bong maps I might like it more but I always get US vs Germans.

Biggest long term complaint I had (besides bugs or performances) in Beta wave 5 is that you have a grand total of five traditional conquest (one attack one defend) maps. Every one the VC/NVA defend, one is Hamburglar hill one is Huehuehue one is a wide open village and rubber plantation. There's then the unique territorial mode which is so wide open it really becomes more Battlefield and less RO2/RS, and two very small 16 person designed maps I hope will be possible on 64 person (They are kind of apartments size from RO2). One is an airbase so could work for Khe Sahn or some firebase the other looked in the picture like it'd work for Hanoi's Embassy or some such.

That being said it's still a lot of fun (though the NVA/VC were terribly overpowered. I say that as someone who told GI GO HOME YOU WANT HAMBURGER TOO BAD HERE BOMB FUCK YOU 24/7). I will be buying it on release.

To be fair RO2 and RS have upwards of +7 or +5 years of maps added but even at release it was more than we seem poised to have for RS2 release.

>>33302839

There's no guarantee what we'd get for an RS2 'expansion' (except that ANZACs and ARVN are pretty much confirmed unofficially. Saw something on their leddit page about audio for the FAL or whatever the Aussie SLR was called being recorded) but I do wonder what it'd be. Korea would have worked better as the initial release and I kinda wouldn't mind something out of left field like Yom Kippur or Lebanon civil war or something 70s-80s.
>>
>>33310882

The roadmap mentions post release the hope/plan of doing the ANZACs and ARVN as Freelc (maybe DLC). Hence the sterling and FAL.

The ARVN will need to get M14s and maybe some M16s for their primary rifleman class or it'd be really shitty being stuck with garands and M1 carbines vs the VC and NVA getting unlimited AKs

PAX Panel Q&A Recap

>Plans for support? For how long? How will future DLC be included into RS2? What do you guys think of DLCs which include game-mechanics and not just pure content?
"We’ll support as long as it is viable! Here’s our (current) thoughts (these are not planned/scoped/promised):
New factions – such as ANZACs, ARVN, ROKs
New maps – our own and mapping contests
New choppers – Huey gunship
Ground vehicles – M113, tanks
Bring forward RO2 and RS1 content
Co-op game mode(s)
Version of the RO2/RS Multiplayer Campaign
Tell us what you’d like – visit the forums."

I assume by RO2/RS1 content it's bringing weapons from either and maps from RS1.

>Plan for land vehicles?
"While there were a bunch of vehicles around, their (combat) use was so restricted that it hasn’t been a high priority for us - so not at launch. It’s something we’ll look at based on demand - or maybe it is something modders should have a go at!"
>>

It's less promises and more just a sense of what they would like to do. I am relatively optimistic even though I am disappointed in the small number of maps (Territory should have at least 2 more for release.). They already bumped in another wave rather than wave six to release (now there's a wave 7) so they are not apparently married to rushing it out the door.

Yep, they simplified the UI a bit but otherwise it's literally Wargame in a WW2 setting. Only real differences I feel so far arise from the different tech era rather than the gameplay mechanics themselves, so stuff like artillery isn't the wrecking ball that can wipe out an entire city block, airplanes have laughably weak payloads, tanks are slow as shit and can't aim

Pretty much everything has been nerfed. I sent out a storch recon plane, it arrives on the battlefield flying with the speed of a glider, gets shot at and hit by the mounted MG on an enemy Stuart tank, gets scared off and leaves.

I send a Pz IV, it encounters some enemy tank (can't remember which), they fire at each other, miss, get glancing shots on armor, get spooked and disengage, calm down, re-engage, fire again, stare at each other angrily across a farmer's field while an artillery observer in a nearby bush calls in coordinates for a naval battery

It's actually really amazing how this and Wargame manage to capture the technological progress of the cold war, everything was so much more lethal in Wargame, whole platoons would be wiped out in the blink of an eye, here not so much.
>>
>>33318646
I can see how the, literal, hit and miss mechanics here could get frustrating, but I agree that it suits the era. A Company of Heroes-esque "Everything fucks up everything until they're 10 feet apart" setup would have been pretty shit.

Not gonna lie, I'm really just interested in US TD representation.I know that the USSR probably isn't going to be featured on release, but is the game all of WW2 in Western Europe (N. Africa, Italy, Crete...) or does it stick to post D-day settings?

>>
>>33319088
What factions are we working with? Just broad USA, UK, Germany, with specifics being left to the decks?
>>
>>33319134

No, it's not tied to nation but to division. So there's going to be 18 divisions in the game, 9 per each side, and each division basically behaves as a nation from Wargame, in that it has a unit pool (allegedly autistically following the actual TO&E of the division), and from that TO&E you build your deck which you use as you would in Wargame.

So obviously each division belongs to a nation, of which there are Germany, US, UK, Canada, France and Poland, but each division is also going to belong ot one of 4 categories, infantry, mechanised, armored and airborne, and that determines how many points you get in each of the 3 stages and what your TO&E is.

So basically Eugen was sick of people playing jack of all trades in Wargame and so forces them to pick a role by going for a specialised division. Playing armored division? Tough shit, early game you're going to have to rely on your airborne division teammate to send out his extremely powerful paratroopers to capture and hold territory, hten when the late game kicks in your heavy cavalry arrives.
>>
>>33318391

Part of me likes that idea but the other part is glad it's Vietnam. Korea would basically be RO2's Russias vs RS1's Americans. Add in M2/M3 Carbines, grease guns, SKS, and that's pretty much it for any new guns. I mean it'd be neat in that novel sense of a usually never depicted conflict & Chinese human waves - was already thinking a neat commander ability in a Korean war RO would be something like "Instant respawn once X number of CHICOMs are dead and awaiting spawn for 60 seconds."

So your commander presses it, officers stay behind cover and you just have wave after wave of screaming Pappasha shooting chinks.

Hopefully with the increased interest in RS2 and larger playerbase there will be more mod attempts as Korea would really just need Chinese voices and maps, otherwise you got the gun models, you got mechanics in place, ect.

God I hate modern map design.

Stuff a ton of players in a shoebox. Objectives are strung out in a straight line. Players spawn 5 seconds from the action, assuming a squad spawn system doesn't beam them down from the Enterprise directly into the firefight. Artificial choke-points that you need to push through, can't be flanked around, and that are full of exploding grenade at all times.

Not really, because MGS has actual stealth mechanisms with the cardboard boxes, the knockouts, and the interrogation system.
In Sniper Elite, at least the V2 version that I played, the only stealth is about crawling to a specific point and use sound to cover your shots. And once you shoot, the enemies know magically where you are, even if you're on top of a semi-destroyed building.

Even Far Cry 2 handled sniping better than that, since you could shoot once, move around the map, shoot again, and nobody would find you. They would only notice you if you fired several times from the same spot.
In Sniper Elite, because of the way the maps are created, you can't have a lot of freedom in your sneaking. Not to mention it's impossible to shoot enemies snipers before they shoot you, and the game fucking loves spawning enemies, so even if you're extra careful and rigs the area with trap, sometimes an enemy will spawn in an area you haven't booby-trapped.

In Metal Gear, there are often moments when you have to fight, but you're still encouraged to sneak.
Sniper Elite is just a FPS that focuses on sniping, and the maps are way too linear to make it fun. If Sniper Elite is stealth, then you can say Borderlands is stealth too.

Try Hearts of Iron 3, with the Black Ice mod for maximum autism. Not stealth but definitely /k/ related and about as autistic as it gets before you enter into Aurora territory, pic related.

Might want to take a look at Men of War, it has some stealth missions, though it's mainly a squad-based ww2 game, similar to company of heroes but harder/more realistic.
There's also this Hitman-esque cold war spy game I can't remember the name of.

Don't forget that one map with a building in the middle that overlooked almost all possible routes that the attack team would take to advance. There was always a group of players with LMG's and rifles in the second floor raining bullets on the poor bastards trying to cross to the next point.

Boy, how I had fun in that building.

RS maps are pretty poorly made, m8.
On RO2 you could at least get on the mounted MGs as they were in enfilade positions and you could do some work. On RS you get on a MG and you die in about half a second.

>>33324147
>it needs better, more versatille maps.
Which it won't get because they're going to rape everyone's wallets again with RS2. I'm already calling it that RS2 is going to have the same problems.

I have more than 500h in HoI3 and it's not the only wargame that I've played in my time. Nice assumptions though.
If you want to play something proper in terms of autism go and take a look at flashpoint campaigns and war in the east.
If you want for HoI3 to be more complex you can just play mods that include the ICE units but don't put any of its retarded shit in the game. Not to mention that it runs like dogshit. And who fucking used arty in World War II, no one right?

>>
>>33324826
The MGs weren't put in for decoration. The map designers should have actually took the trouble of putting them in proper locations with cover. They did it right in RO2, they should have done it right for RS.

But then again, these are the same idiots that think it's fine for one guy with a flamethrower to run through the smoke and fry half of the enemy team.

I hated Human Revolution so damn much.

Sci-Fi is supposed to make you dream. Instead of that, in Human Revolution, you got :

- even more racism thanbefore,
- a politician who's allowed to speak in public despite his brother being a terrorist,
- drugs that you're required to take to avoid issues with augmentations, and that's expensive as fuck,
- no good ending because you know that the Majestic 12 and the Grey Pox will be a thing, and that civilization will completely collapses afterward because of JC,
- human traffic.

>war in the east.
I am loving those railroads that carry *infinite* supply, I also dislike the fact that it does not include the rest of the world.

>Not to mention that it runs like dogshit. And who fucking used arty in World War II, no one right?
It runs very well once you fix your installation, it's not hard to do but requires a bit more input than just download and play, worth it imo.
Not sure what you mean by arty either, you (should) put one on every division and is a very strong brigade in-game.

>If you want for HoI3 to be more complex you can just play mods that include the ICE units but don't put any of its retarded shit in the game.
There's some stupid shit here and there, maybe an excess of micromanagement when it comes to airforce and such too, but I find the good stuff to outweigh the bad stuff ten to one. The game even lets you choose how difficult you want it to be if you're distraught by the Soviet meatgrinder being too hard or want France to be stronger.

The rest are absolute shit with retarded garbage (LOL VERDUN IS ONLY 16 VERSUS 16 I REALLY FEEL LIKE I'M IN WORLD WAR ONE AND THE DEVELOPERS THINK THEIR PLAYERS ARE TOO STUPID TO HAVE MORE PEOPLE PER MAP LOL)

Red Orchestra? Get the fuck out. Only ROOST and its mods were good.

>>
>>33328793

It's not bait at all, you dumb fuck. Save for maybe Wargame (DLC LUL FUCK YOU) and Men of War now that I've read the entirety of the thread all the other games are dogshit.

Some retard is even defending Red Orchestra 2 like it's able to mount a defence and isn't just absolute shit. They wanted a wider audience and they got no one. Now the game is still buggy as shit and horrible with few of the multiple vehicles they promised. On top of that, they fucked over the original game's servers and you can barely play anywhere that isn't Russia with 3234235252124 ping.

Verdun is fucking shit. I'm also a bit miffed that it's one of the only games where you can play with the actual useful troops of WW1 (the French) and yet everyone wants to be British or, now, American. The maps are small as shit and so is the player count for maps. Seriously, I asked the developers if they were planning on expanding the maximum players and they basically told me the players were seriously having trouble with the maps as they are now. 16 vs 16. On a PC game. In World War One. Fuck you.

ROOST was great. Mare Nostrum was great. Darkest Hour was great despite the 29th faggots faggoting up everything.

Closest to it I've found have been short stories and ebooks found on the internet, and some of the WWII parts of Cryptonomicon.

>Heinlein
I've read starship troopers and enjoyed it enough. He had some impressive tactical insight and premonition but it lacked both excitement and emotional immersion.

>Peter Watts is very very good, but you will not like his views on what future warfare looks like
Which of his books should I start with and what's it like?
>>
>>33329591
they don't think it be like it is, but it do
the characters interact with each other, they have likes and dislikes according to their character sheet, as well as a hidden "best friend" and a hidden "worst enemy" coded in, but they can acquire likes and dislikes as the campaign progresses
this (as well as squad performance) affects morale
a merc who has high morale will shoot better, take more care of his equipment (fewer failures)
a merc who has low morale will cease giving a fuck, experience more crit fails, and may eventually leave your team altogether, although this is pretty rare in-game
note that it is usually enough to send mercs who hate each other on different missions, but sometimes they still get a morale penalty for just being on the same team as their arch-nemesis
oh and leadership affects team morale of course
>>
>>33329598
