3030 is an ideal cartridge for cast bullets, and those can be reloaded for a cheap as 15 cents each at near factory velocity, or at a .357mag preformance level for 5-7 cents depending on powder selection. I almost agree.

30-30 isn't a great cartridge. The Russian .30 has similar (but better) ballistics, and it's rimless so it works just fine in a semi-auto. And I prefer the .357 in my lever gun. Even the hottest loads don't match the 30-30, it's true, but you can get pretty close, you get ~30% more ammo capacity due to shorter rounds, and it really reduces the load-out with ammunition to use lighter rounds that work in both the carbine and the revolver.

So why use a 30-30? There are a lot of nice old weapons out there chambered for it, maybe you have one and want to shoot it?

With factory loads the 30-30 is only a little better at the muzzle and it loses it quickly down range. Yeah, if you're handloading and you're sure of your rifle you can load it a good bit hotter than that, but otherwise the difference is negligible.

I love the old 30-30 but I haven't taken it out to hunt with since I got my hands on a quality SKS.

I'll bite; Received this from a family member, sold my personal 94 years ago during a move.

This one has some clear signs of abuse on the rear buttstock (fading and chipping of the wood and the two screws holding on the buttpad are nearly rusted out). So I'll need to fix that.

They do some amazing work, use their search because almost everything has been asked at least once.
The first thing you need to do is slug your bore and then start shopping for a mold .002-.003 larger than that.

If you arent already casting get the lee, for the cost they are great to get you started. Once you are comfortable i highly recomend an NOE 6 cavity to cast in greater volume (pic related)
Slug the throat and size to that, with cast lead if the bullet will chamber it will shoot safely.
