Buy a Fero Z-24. It's the scope they issued to designated marksmen in the bundeswehr to put on their G3s. Manufactured by Hensoldt-Wetzlar with Zeiss glass. You can find them being sold by German surplus stores on ebay, last I looked a cheap one which showed signs of wear was around $400-500, like new condition will set you back closer to $900.

Those Z-24's were hot good deals back when they were $200-$250 with the claw mount, you could just sell the claw for $150 and get a better mount like a B&T + ARMS mount.

Sub $100 get a UTG big buster. It will hold zero with a 308. The next step up is a prism scope.

Remember the fact that you need a compact scope for the charging handle clearance. I have a Nikon 3-9 on my PTR and it was shit. Now I have a 5x primary arms prism optic.

I really like it. The Zeiss optics were 1.5-6, the Hensoldt optics were 4x. There is logic behind the low power optic choice. Plus having a small optic fits the rifle well. I find the rotary sights feeling like they sit low causing me to push my cheek into the stock. Follow-up shots were a bitch... Maybe I have a fat face. Either way the optic is clear, works and fits.

I have a 2.5 on my AR and love the hell out of it too.
