I'm a complete n00b to russian optics and I have a couple questions for /k/.

First:
>From what I gather, the only difference between a SVD/SKS mount and an AK/Vepr mount is the point where it locks in and the physical height of the optic itself, meaning that an SVD optic will fit an AK/Vepr, but it will sit lower and may not clear the irons if it's much larger than a 24mm scope.
Is this right?

Second:
>Where the hell is a good place to look for a high quality Zenit 4x24 POSP, preferably with the original SVD recticle?
All I can find is Kalinka, and I'm completely clueless about the quality of their "Kalinka Optics" marked scopes.

Thanks for the help, /k/!

To your first question: the ak and svd mounts are different, and not very compatible.
Second question: kalinka is g2g, they don't make posp/pso optics, they just sell them.
>>
please god let there be lurkers....
i have questions! let me get my phone for pics.
Also yes Kalinka optics is g2g otherwise your doing wierd email transactions with sketchy slavs who speak liitle and broken english.

Okay so 1st off i halve a belarussian POSP 4-8x42 with diopter and light. Now ive been zereoing it and ive got it on the money. The issue is that in 8x power it is uncomfortably high and left. Is there any way to center it again or is that just how things are going to be. I've unscrewed the caps and adjusted them ive read about the black and silver parts but it seems that with the bolts out its impossible to center my reticle in 8x without sacrificing my zero. Can anyone help me?

How so by "not very compatible"?

The rails look identical to me, at least in profile.
>>
>>33286944
Not gonna lie, for a split second I only saw the thumbnail and the word "Russian" and just assumed someone attached a scope to a plastic ladle.
>>

SVD type clamps have a block that raises into a slot in the rail, AK type simply clamp on via compressed metal.

An AK clamp will seem to fit an SVD rail, but will shake loose after a mag or so.

An Svd clamp wont attach to an AK rail as they don't have the cutout for the block.

There are some universal clamps that fit both, however.

I have a picture relevant to this thread.

My SVD scope (bring back from Afghanistan) mounts on my ak47 and my 74. Just isn't usable without a much longer buttstock.

Btw. Anyone have as svd for sale?
>>
>>33290042
Can you show the mount of that scope?
>>
>>33290042
Caveat. You can't fully extend the sun shade due to the rear sight

Not of you don't have a Soviet mount
>>
>>33290064
Interesting, generally SVD clamps dont fit AK rails but yours has the slot in the middle, is it a relatively new rifle?
>>
>>33290099
Yea i guess. They 74 is a century seems sporter that is at least 10 years old. The 47 is a wasr. The mounts are nearly identical and sight clamps perfect. However the reticle has a slot cant to the right.

Neat, my Saigas from '06/'07 can only take AK clamps, maybe its an American parts thing.

Also, for OPs reference, left is SVD, middle is AK and right is Universal.
>>
>>33290125
isnt the middle one universal? I have one of those too and the way it slots it should also work on an SVD
>>
>>33290128
It'll attach and seem fine, but works loose under recoil, not enough surface area on the SVD rail perhaps..

The small block on the right side clamp locks into the SVD rail slot, holding it in place, but it also holds fine on standard AK rails.
>>
>>33290142
ah okay that makes sense.
>>
>>33290142
My Vepr 54r has the cut in its rail, will an SVD scope mount to it?

Go to eastwave.ca or buy one secondhand. If it doesn't already have an AK mount buy an NPZ universal PSO mount or an MTK-83 mount
>>
>>33286944
amazon has some good ones too.
