Hey /k/, I have a question for you guys. I've been shooting for a while now, I'm fairly decent at it but I've always bought just standard rifles, never built my own or got anything to flashy just standard ARs.
I have recently came into some money and want to get myself a high quality reliable 5.56 rifle and a 7.62 and i don't know where to start or what to do.
Should I build my own, in which case I don't even know where to start.
Or should I just buy a high quality rifle like an LMT or a scar.
Can anyone point me in the best direction. Or at least give me some advice?

Build an AR
https://thearmsguide.com/2905/how-to-build-an-ar-15-beginners-guide-part-one/
Then build an AR10 or buy a ptr, FAL or scar
Done

ARs have become something of their own, seperate ecosystem in the past couple years, with a great deal of modularity and parts commonality where building your own isn't really a big deal.
However, if you're planning on moving into 7.62 or anything that isn't an AR in 5.56/.223, and you don't have specialist knowledge and tools in gunsmithing already, building most 7.62 rifles will be beyond your reach and it is far simpler to just buy one.

Bullshit, building an AR10 is harder but not that hard.
>>33286343
That only applies to the AR10 because of the AR commonalities. Any other 7.62 semi-auto is going to be an adventure.
>>33286364
Implying any other semi 7.62 is worth it
Ok OP here, maybe if I kinda explain what I'm looking for in a weapon it may help. The 5.56 I'm aiming to keep it fairly short I'm thinking a 14.5 inch barrel and fairly light if possible. I'd like it to be reliable, and fairly easy to fix should something break.
The 7.62 I'd like a little longer maybe a 16-18 inch barrel, but again I want to try and keep it fairly light and reliable. I want to be able to reach out to 500-800 accurately with this one maybe further.

Just fucking build one twat.
It isn't hard.
Google is your friend
>>33286504
Who makes decent parts?
Why would you NEED a Assault Rifle???
t. totally not a fud
>>33286517
DPMS for ar10
google that shit
>>33286261
thanks for the link anon
>>33286551
>Not needing this.
>>33286221
build ar15
buy any 308 since theres so many variations and compatibility issues that a factory gun with a warranty is worth it.
>>33286551
Fuck off fud.
>>33286641
So would LMT be a viable option for a 308. I've heard good things about them.
>>33286641
i would agree with this. i assembeled my 308 ar out of parts and while everything functions perfectly, i wouldnt do it again. for 308, get a factory rifle.
>>33286756
lmt is solid.
>>33286471
>14.5 inch barrel
you are keeping in mind you will need a pinned and welded flash hider/comp right?
>>33286221
>LMT or SCAR
Yoiur asking the wrong question
>>33287928
Wat?
>>33286326
Why do you make it sound like you actually need powertools and machining? I get the parts clusterfuck and the compatibility with the AR10/AR308 platform, since there isn't really a "mil-spec" guideline for it like the AR15.
But I always felt if you need to cut/weld/rivet a part, things that require specialized tools with specialized skillset to learn, it's really not that big a job unless you're someone who can't follow directions or make real bad decisions.
Am I wrong?
>>33288347
so what's with the SCAR being an "eater of optics" I hear a lot about? Something about it's bolt mass putting a lot of stress on optics?

If you don't feel like helping then don't post faggot
