Wew fucking lad

I reload and its pretty economical for me. I buy all my reloading gear and supplies second hand for waaaaay less than retail and shamelessly brass vulture my local range when nobody is around to witness me do it.

As soon as I press the bullet into the casing its worth more than I paid for it.

Nothing better than just sitting down for a saturday and loading up a couple thousand .357 mag or .308 for 25% the cost I would pay retail.

Yeah, trying to design a 9mm carbine with takedown capabilities for around 450 to 500 thats also not hipoint tier shit. My main thing right now is
>pfffft nice try kiddo, I can get an AR for 500

Like thats some fuckin benchmark for quality, or like im even building an AR. Frustrating to invest hundreds and hundreds of hours of time, throw lots of money into development and testing, then show off your prototype and the first comment is some idiot demanding you make it in 10mm with roller delayed blowback for less than $300 retail.

Guess im just at that real tedious stage in the process of being a poorfag with a good idea and dealing with fuckwits who look at my hard work and demand I just give it to them at a loss.

It could be worse. Imagine if the Supreme Court overturned all AWBs and then there was another gun buying panic about something else, pushing AR-15s down to $300 after the panic was over and ensuring the complete death of non AR-15 related innovations in the US.
>>
>>33285539
That's why i only look for sites that offer free shipping even if the cost of the ammo is not the cheapest before shipment, usually it's only 3-5 cents more per round cheaper than shipping. Or I look for flat rate for shipment so the shipping cost doesn't increase when I increase ammo quantity.
>>
>>33292697
Yeah. Idk, people compare apples to oranges then declare themselves experts.

Im building a semi auto 9mm takedown rifle based on the STEN, its something you can both afford to plink with, or break down and throw in a backpack or under the seat of the truck.

Everyone keeps trying to compare it to ARs. Im not building an assault rifle, im building a takedown rifle that isnt a flimsy POS.

I kinda think thats already happened though. Seriously, just open literally any gun magazine. Nothin but glocks and ARs cover to cover.

The tool-room protype uses the original sten mags in a vertically fed configuration. The next prototype will use colt SMG mags cuz theyre relativley cheap, easy to find, and more reliable.

Could include a limited run of horizontally fed versions for the few enthusiasts who get off on that, but right now the plan is to be vertically fed.

A 9mm AR would be your best bet for a take down type rifle. The cost of the internal components for them is relatively cheap and simple and lends itself to quick take down. That or you could try a Tec 9/Mac design and make the barrel removable, but at the end of the day it'll be real close to a 9mm AR
>>
>>33293039
But how
>>
>>33294229
This thing breaks down into an 18 inch long 2 inch thinck 8 inch wide package.

Its easy and cheap to produce and really simple compared to an AR. Im borrowing a bit from the AR in terms of the bolt but its 9mm so its direct blowback instead of gas operated.

Mac and UZI uses stamping which is pretty difficult for somebody not posessing industrial equipment to do, and ARs tequire milling billet, which is also more expensive.
>>
>>33294532
9mm ARs are direct blow back as well. They have more in common with a Sten than a 5.56 AR.
>>
>>33294532
>>33294557
But also neat I want to see your design if you're willing.
>>
>>33294557
Yeah, Im using the sten style reciever setup because its crazy cheap but still pretty sturdy and reliable.

The idea is to be cheap and simple as possible without sacrificing function.
>>
>>33294566
Tool room Protype was posted here >>33292959
>>
>>33294587
Nice glad you went with the colt smg mags in the next version. You use a sten bolt as well? You should see how cheap you can hybridize the AR9 bcg and sten receiver, would make other folks assembling a kit much easier. How easy does the barrel swap?
>>
>>33294608
On the tool room protype it doesnt, permanantly fixing it was faster and cheaper to do on a copy that only exists to test operation and feeding.

On the complete model it will be as simple as untreading the front bushing. Take maybe 15 seconds.

If the Hearing protection act happens a drop in integrally suprressed barrel could be sold seperatley.
>>
>>33285539

>not ordering only when you're getting free shipping
>>
>>33294608
Im currently using a striker fired modification to the sten bolt, but after testing im gonna ditch that in favor of a hammer fired system similar to the AR style bolt.

More reliable, less parts, and a better saftey.
>>
>>33294573
To further reduce length and possibly decrease bolt weight why not make a telescoping bolt?
>>
>>33294659
Nice, so just a heads up here's the issue you're probably gonna run into, once you switch over to the AR bolt you're likely going to want to do the same with the AR hammer system, but at that point you're basically just making an AR and the cost likely just goes right back to doing an AR. If you can marry the hammer/upper in a cheaper way that is easy for someone to finish you'd be looking at a lot of interested people.
>>
>>33294668
Not necessary on a 9mm direct blowback, adds complexity and thus cost.

If I was getting into higher calibers I would but 9mm is low enough pressure it just doesnt need it.

Neat thing is 9mm out of a 16.5 inch barrel is pushing 1700 fps muzzle velocity. Its pretty accurate out to 100 meters, at 150 you can still keep the rounds inside a torso sized area.

Will make a great range plinker since 9mm is pretty cheap, but is still powerful enough to consider as an acceptable light survival rifle for small to medium sized game, or irate shitheads.

Honestly 7.62x.25 tok would make it a 300 yard gun, but that defeats the common/cheap ammo and mags deal.
>>
>>33294726
if it ever get to that point a 357 sig version might be attractive. Main problem I'm seeing is that your cost savings routes go out the window and becomes even more time consuming and therefore expensive if you ever hit full production.
>>
>>33294829
Yeah, and honestly im just a poorfag with a neat idea.

So assuming my prototyping goes well I need to get licensed up, then I will make an initial run of 5 to 10 rifles.

Sell em to /k/ommandos at manufacturibg cost and have them do some field testing for me.

Im also considering just selling finishedand serialized sten recievers to help raise money for manufacturing costs.

Eventually I could maybe contract out somebody with a professional CNC to crank 100 recievers and bolts out for me. Assemble 100 rifles and try to see who I can sell em to.

But thats all in the next couple of years, for now I just gotta focus on getting a design built that works as intended.
>>
>>33292777

IMO, what I'd really love to see is a convertible magwell. Basically you'd have different magwell options, for those that want Sten/Uzi/etc. A VZ-26 one (those mags can run 7.62x25 or 9mm) would be interesting because those mags are dirt cheap. You can get a whole parts kit with 5 mags for 50-75 these days, so $10-15 ish a mag and keep the parts or resell 'em.
>>
>>33295489
Most of the magwells are fine the issue is changing the catch.. Colt SMG mags for example are Uzi mags with a catch cut.
>>
>>33285616
>using coupons like a disgustingly fat soccer mom
>>
>>33295556
Basically this, youd have to change bolts and barrels too.
