Well it has much better ERA turret coverage (T-90 is just lol) and has commander cupola with periscopes. Not bad.

Looks less shit than the stuff they usually come out with.

those RETARDED baseball caps that the Iranian officers use. just for that they should be massacred

Looks pretty dang cool.

That's because it's a T-72 in a new set of clothes. Their other stuff is literally just cardboard models.

Funny when we could see pretty extensive features of this tank while the much earlier zulfiqar tanks (which is basically M48 tank with abram-style turret) were practically hauled by a prime mover every time they were featured on parades

Looks they purchased the rights to some Russian upgrade package for the T-72.

The engine is probably more of a factor than the sun in warming the tank, which is why all modern tanks have AC.

Well, they did better than they usually do. It may just be a T-72 but there's nothing inherently wrong with that as long as they don't make bullshit claims about its capability.
Improved ERA, optics, and crew conditions are good things.
Curious to see more of it.
>>
>>33283123
>Improved ERA coverage
>RWS
>New sight (?)
>Slat armor for side/rear.

Not bad for a shallow modernization.

Heavy ERA would be better obviously but sourcing that could be an issue.

The Iranian Army is fairly competent and equipped for a Middle Eastern country. The Air Force and Navy, not so much. Even then, the Iranian Air Force did well during the Iran-Iraq war, despite sanctions.

No, it's a T-72 that's dressed up in ERA to look like a T-90MS, but the ERA is way less advanced. It looks like a cheap bootleg of the T90
>>
>>33285769
But because of the sanctions, they didn't have spare parts and other equipments for said aircraft. Any loss was irreplaceable, and the missiles used were hard to come by to replace. There was also the officers purges that crippled the Air Force ranks, and the distrust by other branches who seen in the AF as that branch that still housed senior officers from the old regime, more than the rest, at least. Iranian Air Force performance in the Iran-Iraq Wars was incredibly admirable when we take into account all adversities.
>>
>>33285686
>The Iranian Army is fairly competent and equipped for a Middle Eastern country
Citation Needed.
>>
People are shitting on this for no good reason. The only real Irani-bling is the barrel shroud (maybe the black paint).

Otherwise, basement-tier, OK upgrade. Rubber skirts are good value for money RPG deflection, RWS or nothing these days for urban combat. The FCS/sight is probably homemade copy of a Slovene one. Also I suspect they replaced the APU (airconditioner?) and moved it to the bustle.
>>
>>33285969
Yes, and it's literally because they were using American technology.

There are countless examples around the world as to why technology matters a lot more in the air than it does on the ground: in the sky, advanced sensors and good aerodynamics in the hands of a mediocre pilot will beat a shitty pilot in a rust bucket any day of the week. It's why the Israelis shitstomped the arabs (and the Soviets themselves), it's why the USN/USAF shat on the Vietnamese, Libya, Iraq, Yugoslavia, you name it. American fighters are the best in class, period.
>>

ember 1966, the U.S. air forces lost 47 aircraft, destroying only 12 NVAF fighters in return. From April 1965 to November 1968, over 268 air battles occurred over the skies of North Vietnam. North Vietnam claimed 244 downed U.S. aircraft, while admitting to the loss of 85 MiGs.[43]

Take a closer look at the "factory" pics, it's clearly a T-90S or T-90MS. Look at the turret shaped under the ERA.
>>
>>33286340
You do know that the vast majority of American losses were due to AAA and SAMs, not MiGs, right? The F-4 creamed the MiG-21 in nearly every encounter over Vietnam, and then kept doing it over Israel and Pakistan.
>>
>>33285813
>>33285738
Having the highest-scoring aces is more of an indicator of how few pilots you have than how good they actually are.

I'm not going to bullshit, I don't know that much about russian tanks. But the T-90 is Russia's current MBT, and so for that reason I find it unlikely that Iran would get them just yet. They are going to replace it with the T-14 but that hasn't happened yet as far as I'm aware, and so it just seems unlikely to me that Iran would have any T-90s to do this too.

I suppose I could be wrong. The US hands out M1A1 Abrams like they're candy, but the US is much richer than Russia. Then again, Iran isn't broke themselves, so it's possible they bought some T-90s. I dunno, Iran isn't THAT rich, which they might be able to budget one or two, I don't think they could order in significant numbers.

Now, T-72s on the other hand are plentiful and cheap so it makes sense Iran could have been given some or bought some used and then proceeded to dress them up to show off. Granted I'm no expert on tanks, the turret shape on the T-72 and T-90 look similar to me. Iran has no problem completely fabricating shit out of wood or sheet metal like they did with that new plane they unveiled, so perhaps the T-72 is dressed up to look like a T-90 first, and then dressed up to look differently enough to pass as a homegrown tank they just built.

Just my opinion on the matter.
>>
>>33286755
Nigga, fucking Algeria, India, and a bunch of other countries have T-90 variants in service.
>>
>>33286755
>>33286768
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-90#Current_operators
It's not a stretch to think that Iran bought a bunch as kits and are domestically developing some parts to get around specific sanctions.
>>
>>33286539
>>33286785

Check the ERA. that clearly Kontakt-1 as used on Iranian T-72S, not the Kontakt-5 used on T-90 series or T-72B3.

If Iran had bought T-90 they would not have downgraded the most important part of the armor package.
>>
These aern't kits.

This has the the older engine, old 6-spoke roadwheel, forward-opening TC hatch, no visible MRS, no visible LWR, different ERA, no towhooks on the front lower glacis.

Number of lower glacis mineplow mounts indicate base hull is from a export T-72
>>
>>33286852
All that would tell you is that they want to stick with what they already have and what they have the ability to domestically reproduce. Same reason the lower hull appears to have a few T-72 features. Since we can't have a good look inside or take one and disect it it's all just speculation but I wouldn't put it past Russia to try and do a bit of a technology transfer to Iran since Iran's armor is so out of date at this point.
>>
>>33286768
>>33286785
Well then I guess maybe it is a T-90. What is it with the Iranians and desperately trying to show off this kind of crap? Are they trying to intimidate the world with their new drones and jets and tanks? Is it some sort of proof to their citizens that they're still "in the fight" against whoever?

There's a few ways for the Russians to skip around sanctions, but my guess its a local 'inspired by the T90' built product
>>
>>33286915
Iran has two neighbors that are an existential threat and they're both armed, trained, and backed by the US. Those two threats are, at the moment, Israel and Saudi Arabia (if you want to make a third throw in Turkey). Don't pretend like they're not threatened. That's the whole reason for their nuke program, they know Israel has them (both those the US gave them and those they developed with SA back in the 70's) and Saudi Arabia may or may not. They know that, beyond posturing, their conventional forces are nothing but a purely defensive at best. The two major aspects of their defense strategy are nukes and planning to fight an asymmetrical war in the case of invasion.
>>
>>33286951
We'll see. I don't think Iran, domestically, has the technology or production capability to produce these whole vehicles from scratch. I mean they can't even produce a T-72 so all those electronics and stuff would make you think that it's more than likely a bit of Russian tech, probably kits, and some Russian technical advisers.
>>
>>33286901
If Russia had sold the T-90 to Iran, it would have been public knowledge, either by an announcement or leaks.
It's possible there may have been some cooperation by the Russian federation in its development, but the tanks themselves aren't T-90s.
>>
>>33286982
They can produce the T72S under licence in Iran, though the reality of making a T90 equivalent (or better) at a production level- kinda iffy.
>>
>>33283123
God damn, guess the US will think twice about invading Iran.
>>
>>33287078
The main problems with invading Iran don't stem from the Iranian military's conventional strength. It is large, but it's strength is overall meager. They could have genuine T-90s and it wouldn't really matter either way.

But can it defeat an Israeli BATTLE FORTRESS?
>>
>>33287116
So what is the reason invading and occupying Iran would be difficult?
>>
>>33287153
Large size of the country, large population centers concealed past mountainous terrain, relatively few roads means easy to cut logistical trains, general rear-area harassing would slow things down further.
We could do it, of course. It's just a matter of priority. We can contain them with sanctions if need be, so it's not a pressing concern.

If we were just interested in cutting their oil, of course, it's out in the southwest, which is a mostly flat area and hard to protect.

They can probably make a turret that is shaped a lot like the T90's, but in the end its just a body kit to make it appear more advanced than it actually is just like their """""stealth""""" fighter.

I doubt it enters mass production in a meaningful way. It's mainly just propaganda to make it look like they can play with the big boys
