Sup /k/.
I plan on doing some browsing today at my local gun shops for my first pistol (and gun). I plan on getting an M1911 .45 ACP.

Why are there so many different models and what should I look for?

I'm not shopping for an every day carry, I just want an M1911. I do plan on getting a CC permit next month some time however, and if I find a nice pistol, I might carry it with me some times.

got a springfield mil spec (pic related) as my first pistol.

good gun, no nonsense finish, good parts, parts are not meme tier tight special snowflake shit. its a good gun.

a 22lr pistol helped a lot with aiming
>>
>>33281375
For starters, start carrying around a brick in your pocket to get used to the weight. Secondly, do you have any manufacturer preference? And lastly are you looking for a A1 replica or could care less?

If you only want something that is a m1911 or m1911a1 clone rock island is cost effective way to do it.

If you want to get a 1911 for carry or defense, my best advice is don't. You may get lucky and find a gun+magazine+ammo combo that runs great out of the box but the odds are not in your favor.
If this is your first gun and you have bad luck with it you'll be frustrated as hell and spend more time trying to unfuck your 45 than learning to shoot.

Best case scenario it works and you'll love it because 1911's are easy to shoot and feel pretty damn good in the hand for most people. You'll be "spoiled" and never want another handgun.

>tldr; being a 1911 fag is eternal torment, buy a cat o nine tails and whip yourself silly instead, it's cheaper
>>
>>33281375
before you buy a 1911 go watch some videos on what it takes to disassemble and reassemble one. it might look easy but you can put an idiot scratch on one real fast if you haven't got a clue what you are doing. small things like cocking the hammer etc when doing it.
>>
Does anyone know how the Ruger SR1911 compares to others? Is it good for running around innawoods and combat classes?
>>
Oh, thank God; a 1911 thread.

I just bought an Argentine 1911, had a bit of trouble dissasembling it because the slide only has a cut for the holdopen, no little second guide hole because it it just a LITTLE bit different,
but now that I have it down I can't figure out how to put the holdopen back in, I just can't get it back in the normal way.

Any advice?
>>
>>33281487
>>33281487
It's my first pistol so I couldn't care less if it's a replica, nor which manufacturer. I do however not want to spend over $700 on it.
>>
>>33281744
I've read a few mixed reviews about Rock Island, but I really like the price. I don't really plan on using the M1911 for CC, but if it's a really nice gun and reliable, I might carry it some times. Later on I might get a small handgun specifically for CC.
>>
How are the Rock island 1911's? How about the other lower prices ones?
>>
>>33283037
They've got a reputation for working great and in the unlikely chance they don't, RIA has really good customer service.
>>
>>33282937
>>33283037
its a $3-400 1911. Make of that what you will.
The main arguments I've seen against them are
>no frills
And
>It's not a (brand)
>>
>>33283136
>>33283161
Any word on the Iver Johnson's?
>>
>>33283136
This, I was invited to go to shotshow with my logistics partner, the RIA guys are great people.
I don't own an RIA at the moment, but my carrier says he can get me one at wholesale, skim em off a contract shipment.
>>
You might consider saving up and looking for a deal on a new Colt series 70.

However, if you need to go cheaper there is the Springfield Milspec.
>>
>>33282908
Get an RIA if you're not brand conscious. if you are then get a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec.
>>
>>33283527
No. Just because something looks similar doesn't mean they are the same.

There are other differences besides the name on the slide.
>>
Anyone dealt with the Cimarron 1911's?

A couple years ago, i picked up a Springfield M1911A1 "Loaded" and have loved it ever since. I picked mine up for $700 out the door at a gunshow. I don't know what the prices are now, but from what i understand you won't see that deal ever again lol.

Pick related, 1st two guns I bought.

OP here
Found a pre-owned colt 1911 government model for $699, thinking about getting it. The saleman said it was in extremely good condition and he even sounded like he wanted to buy it. (inb4 that's his job)

I think pic related but I'm not %100 sure on the exact model. It had custom wood grips that looked nice though.
>>
>>33281375
Where do I get a Auto Ordnance 1911?

I've searched online and there's one at buds but I'm looking for it to be a bit cheaper.

Only the PKZSE model, I'm in Commiefornia

Okay so it really depends on what you want and what you're looking for. Do you want a WW2 GI style like the classic 1911's, or do you want a more modern or customized 1911. If you don't really care, then there are a lot of companies that make really good basic GI style 1911's. American Tactical Imports, Rock Island Armory, and TISAS all make pretty decent basic pistols and none of them are over $450. I personally like RI and ATI.

If you want something more interesting then any of the standard manufacturers will give you a good model, Springfield, Kimber, ect. Colt guns have known to be great, but I think the price is absurd, considering that ATI, RI and TISAS make basically the same gun for hundreds of dollars less.

Source: I bought a full size ATI before going back to school, really love it.

However, I strongly advise you to stay away from the shorter models, as they are notorious for problems.

Listen bruh. I just got a new Rock Island and this bitch feels as good as my dad's Springfield Armory. It's tight, no slop between frame and sldie, the action is nice and smooth. Sure it's not as pretty as a Kimber or something like that, but it's a 1911 produced in the old way. It's a solidly built gun I paid $430 for.
>>
>>33281375
any reason why I shouldn't get a dan wesson specialist?
>>
>>33285393
1,290+500=really really really nice 1911.
>>

With cast frames and MIM internals, just like back in Grandpa's day.
>>
>>33286651
Not OP, but I can't think of any objective reasons to not get it.

The DWs are nice guns.

There are things I don't like about it, but they are personal preference things.
>>
>>33286628

C'mon man.
>>33286794
Most 1911's are cast, and Geissele triggers are MIM. If you do it right, it's not shit.

I got a SR1911. I wanted a 1911 and had about $800 to waste on one. Went to cabelas to look at a remington R1 from the gun library. (It was shit). Looked at some others in my price range. Ruger, Kimber, RIA, S&W, and a Springfield. The 2 best were the Springfield and the Ruger. Springfield was $799. Ruger was $599. There was not a $200 difference between them. I have had the SR1911 for about a year now and it has become my favorite Range pistol. The trigger is just so nice and crisp. It runs so smooth, no hangups of any kind. I have never regreted the purchase of my SR1911.

>barely anyone recommended a Colt

A Series 80 Colt can be had in the upper 600s/lower 700s these days. Not only is their quality superior to that of any 1911 that can be had for cheaper, it will hold its value better simply by virtue of having a horse on its gun. You could easily recover 80% of its value in a private resale as long as you didn't abuse the gun or bubba it.

Furthermore, a 1911 from Colt is in the unique position of being able to potentially make you returns on your purchase. If Colt goes out of business completely or ends up getting sold off to another capital management group that guts the company and sends its quality nosediving, your Colt 1911 will pull a Python and triple in value.

I would only recommend the Rock Island/other cheap 1911 over a Colt if you can find one at a good price used (not hard as they depreciate heavily on the secondary market) or if your budget doesn't allow you to buy a Colt at any point in the foreseeable future.

>>
>>33289176
in the long run a silver sword will do you more good since you won't run out of ammo for it, though realistically you don't want the werewolf to get that close to you in the first place
>>
>>33289274
No, I just want seven of them to have on me as a spare magazine in case I get got by a wendigo again without someone there looking out for me.
>>
>>33289292
The best spook hunters make their own shit.
>>
>>33289309
I don't want to buy casting and reloading equipment just to make a total of seven bullets I'm unlikely to ever fire, though.
>>
>>33289352
>as if your life will ever be normal after getting involved with the supernatural
It's like you don't even folklore.

Also, reloading is fun.
>>
>>33289352
Then buy casting and reloading equipment to make your own ammo all the goddamn time just for the fun of it

Also, don't discount other uses. Cold iron bullets if you're being pursued by a True Fae, gold bullets in case a werebear becomes a problem, etc.
