Buy a knife that got it's name through a good reputation. Not one that bought it's reputation through an endorsement.

I have the "Ultimate survival" fixed blade. It's pretty much a slightly cheaper Bear branded LMF2. Nice thick blade and sturdyish rubberized handle. I like it

only decent knife out of gerber as of late for fixed blades is the strongarm, but even then its heavy for what it is.

Avoid bear grylls stuff like the plague, go for mora, ontario, becker or esee if you want to pay more for the warranty.
