I picked this nice clean Enfield the other day for $800 Aussie doubloons, with a bunch of surplus ammo from from 1940-1956. I thought I did pretty good seeing as they go online here for well over 2k and beyond for good quality ones.
The first thing I noticed at the fun shop was that it had brass fitting on it and I've never seen one like that. The guy who owns the store is a small country dirt road in home shop and he is pretty bro grade with me and my family. He said that it had hardly if ever been fired. The original grease trap and cleaning rope are still inside and look unused.
I am lucky enough to have my own home range on our farm and I was able to hit 110mm clay shotgun pigeons at 200 meters from the bench pretty easily. It feels very tight in shooting and the bolt is smooth when loading.
Over all I am very happy with it.
Anything you can tell me about it /k/?
hairy knuckles included
When I unrolled the rope it seemed like it could still be used but I'm using my cleaning kit for other 30 cal rifles
Here is some numbers. From this I gather it was made in Australia? (maybe) during the later part of ww2
The rifling seems clean and free from pitting. I have some from the breach end but my phones camera has a hard time focusing from that end.
no idea what these number denote
I love the artillery style optimism adjuster.
and on the front brass band it has this little upside down BA on it. Again no idea what this denotes
I am considering putting a scope on it but I would like something period if at all possible, or at least something that looks period. Is there anyway I can mount a scope to this without bubba fucking and loosing its stripper clip ability?

Yes. You can go long eye relief, or the Brits used to make these weird, offset scope mounts for the Enfield.
Hey buddy, I've heard about and read about the brass bands on lee enfields before. During WW2 a lot of Australian made enfields had brass bands (To save material) that were blackened before they left the factory (So the soldier didn't have a shiny "Shoot me!" on his rifle). A previous owner would of removed the blackening from the barrel bands or refurbished it. No idea about the upside down BA though

I do wish you luck in this endeavor, though. I've got a pet Mk. 3 I've been wanting to get a scope for for years. No one has reasonable prices for them.
That aside, it's a good find. Keep it well oiled and that sunnova bitch will get you through the next Emu War.

Serial number, there will be a matching one on the barrel unless a civillian has changed it. And on the bolt handle.

Yes, Aus. Can't see the date.

The upside down BA is probably just some kind of inspection or makers mark if it was a part made outside Lithgow.
Also, you probably already know but that ammo is corrosive.

I've seen people use SKS scope mounts with some success. It's not quite the same, but still works alright.

The BA could be an arsenal mark from somewhere or other too. These SMLEs found their way all over the damn place, and the BA could mean it belonged to some random rural police department or something for a while.
Very cool gun, by the way. A nice SMLE is high on my wishlist too, and the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet is because I want to really read up on them and make sure I know how to tell a good one from a bad one.

Emu killer/10 sweet rifle op.
Just don't bubba the fucking thing please. If it's nailing clays at 200m, what more do you need?

Take a picture of the top of the barrel by the breech.
