Standby weapons in a Wrangler

I'm starting to far innamountains, and thinking how can I secure at least a full size handgun for two people, plus possibly one or two AR-15 in a four door Wrangler. Also itt, your real encounters innamountains where you actually needed weapons.
>>
>>33252810
Handgun goes in the door pocket, rifles in the trunk. Ceiling gun racks if you so desire.

just an anecdote from a Buddy in Washington but he was once out mudding or whatever in the boonies with his jeep and while chilling out of his vehicle on a dirt road some caddilac came down a dirt road towards him with some guy pointing a pistol out the window so he went to his jeep and got his ak with no stock (Bulgarian?) and racked a round and the car reversed.

careful out there anons

When I lived in WA I had a standoff in the mountains with some weirdos who were probably growing drugs.
Picking huckleberries. Hear the truck come down the road and stop. Hunker down. 2 drunk idiots bursting through the brush asking each other if they had found him yet. I get the jump on one (I had my Converted Saiga 7.62x39,). Told him to drop his gun and have his buddy do the same walk down the road, I'll be gone and you guys can come get your guns.
He asked if I was going to shoot them.
I said only if I had to.
Used to love WA but plenty of crazies in the woods. This happened in the north eastern portion of the state. Is ki d of sketchy up there. People living in buses and garden sheds. Plenty of hill folk with too many dogs.

You're doing it wrong, dummy.

If you got the soft top you can use the roll bars to attach a ball joint and mount any semi auto rifle you want with some Velcro tape. Gonna try doing that next nuggetfest if I go if state laws allow it.

These cars are wide so you aren't as cramped in here as you think. Look into an underseat storage box, big enough to keep said AR pistol.

My crew and cargo doesn't fit into two door, dummy.

What's wrong with four door, or JK, for that matter? And don't tell me to get an old anything - I've done my share of working on old cars, and can do it very well, but I don't have fucking time to do that, nor I enjoy it anymore.
>>
>>33253947
The new jeeps, dont have the same reliability that the older TJ model had. While there is nothing particularly wrong with them they also get alot of criticize because of the creature comforts and not being a 'TRUE' jeep. I personally prefer my older tj to the new JK's but when I graduate from college I wouldnt mind getting a whillys wheeler JK

Well for one, they're underpowered, and without the Rubicon drivetrain you're more likely to break a driveshaft.
I'm with you for newer cars though, I'd also get a tj, just hard pressed on workspace at the moment and need this running without fucking up.

I've run into a hobo camp in a middle of fucking Phoenix - a few hundred feet from a major busy highway, in the middle of the summer. I have no idea how they survive there in that heat with no water sources and the only transportation being apparently bicycles. There were a lot of miscellaneous shiny things like vacuums, teapots, electric fans (but, of course, no power grid) - remembering seeing that stuff still baffles me.
>>
>>33256547
Shit I cant imangine how they do it in phoenix, I used to go to NAU and that is the only part of the state I can see surviving in as a homeless person but i know there is also a shitton in kingman
>>
>>33256641
I guess they just hang out in the shade. It's not that bad in the summer if you find a place with a breeze and dense enough trees; water would be the biggest issue probably
>>
>>33256641
Desert is rough. Even close to the summer the nights are really cold, and the temperature swing in the desert is way wider than it is in the city. It can easily get over 130F in the afternoon.

I want to lift this and get some more gear on it but last time I was at the dealer the tech said I have like 10% life on the clutch left. I'm not sure how the previous owner killed a clutch in 67k miles, but I'm honestly not too happy with this truck. The verdict is still out, depends on what happens with the clutch.

It feels pretty slow too. Lots of guys on the Xterra forums tow trails and boats with it, I can't imagine doing that. It was slow as fuck with 5 people in it and a moderate load.

Hear, hear.

There was a loud story a while ago (that, among other things, lead to .40 being accepted by FBI): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_FBI_Miami_shootout

One detail was - two people were shot while they were target shooting at a remote location (one dead, one left for dead).

Always have a loaded backup on you, no matter where you are.

I forgot to mention, the sherrif is actually the local deputy that lives up there right by me. So we knew him, it wasnt like he was giving me his guns to play with lol

>slip a clutch
Learn to control it. Slipping the clutch is the wrong way to use it, the right way is be in the right gear and with the right equipment (crawl), and engage it fully once torque allows.

>Fluid coupling
is more comfortable for beginners, but there's no way in hell you won't be lurching every time you can gently roll over with near zero overshoot with a manual when you negotiate big rocks. When you lurch on precarious terrain (think rocks on sand on hard rock bed), you're risking upsetting it and causing it to slide and take it with you. Here's how that road might look like: >>33253761

I've never seen or heard of a cougar doing something like that in my life. It was the oddest, most adrenaline endusing, exciting thing ive done. To this day, we still use the term "just bonzai rush it" when we have problems we need to deal with.

What is there to elaborate? The JK front axle has D30 axle tubes and knuckles. The axle tubes are the biggest problem, you can't put 35s on it without trussing it.
>>
>>33261796
What did you mean by "fake D44"?

>>33261859
Literally just told you, keep up.
>>
>>33261997
Pretend I'm literally dumb and explain like you would to an imbecile, please.

The only thing about D44 I know is that Rubicon comes with it.
>>
>>33262026
Not the guy you asked the question to but the JK is wider than the TJ but Jeep didn't think to strengthen the axels. So what they did was widen the axels but didnt make the axel tubes thicker. They kept it the same so they tend to bend if you wheel your jeep like you should.
NOW, they make inserts for the JK D44 but why bother when you can get a superior XJ
>>
>>33262130
Thanks for the explanation

>why bother when you can get a superior XJ
This is why: >>33254050
>>
>>33262130
>didn't think to strengthen the axels
I can see why. 99% of JK drivers will get as much off road as their front lawn grass if they miss the driveway when parking nose in, or backing out - so that was an awesome cost saving decision.

>>
>>33262026
The part of the axle that houses the axle shafts are called axle tubes and the knuckles are what you bolt the spindle into. On the JK front D44 they are identical to the weak D30 instead of being the genuine D44 parts.
>>
>>33253761
not an xj guy myself, but i can certainly agree that JK's are worse

>>33262655
it's an 07. 6 speed manual with diff lockers. i paid $15k but kinda regret buying it. its a great car, but way too new and nice for my taste. I think i might sell it and buy an xj or third gen 4runner. before this i had a 5 speed tj and an automatic third gen 4runner, both of which were great cars.

>>
>>33262633

if you aren't planning on racing or doing any sort of off-roading there is no point in buying a manual. manual drivers just like to think they're superior because they have to use both hands to drive

i tow, go offroading, and often use my FJ as a recovery vehicle. but the main reason i only drive manuals is because its just fun, thats all there is to it.
>>
I'm looking at getting xj guys, anything I should know? Parts that I should watch, little upgrades that I should make?
>>
>>33262633
Drove an FJ for 8 years. It was great and I loved it. Traded it in for a JKU because they aren't making FJ's anymore and they are hard to find. Have nothing but fond memories of that thing.
>>
>>33263109
So what's stopping you from admitting automatic transmissions of various types can be superior?
>>
>>33263198
The frame will crack, make sure you get stiffeners.

- Replace control arms.
- Replace rear axle at the very least with literally anything that isn't a D35.
- Watch out for the later XJs with 4.0s that will crack heads more often than they originally did.
