Is there any way to build an A1 clone these days on the cheap? The parts kit with the upper is like 1.2k or some shit, and it's out of stock. Only one company makes A1 lowers and they're out of stock. I can't find pencil barrels either. Is every manufacturer just too busy shitting out tacticool crap to bother with the classics or will classic build stuff come on the market at some point in the future? Might as well just buy a nice SP-1 and be done with it.

I've noticed this as well. WWII is treated like some classy war which should be respected and vets from that war are enshrined in epic movies that show their heroism. Vietnam is treated like some grimdark edgefest with heroes that are so mentally fucked up they can no longer function in society (rambo, the punisher). It's pretty shitty, I hope one day we reevaluate our opinions of that war and see the heroes who served as what they are, heroes.

I think this is part of it. The image of the vietnam war is forever seen through the eyes of hippies and anti-war protestors. Somehow it was the soldiers who were demonized, even though so few men wanted to fight that war they had to draft young men to get it done. The kids forced to go fight the politicians war are treated like shit while the reasoning that brought us there in the first place is mostly forgotten. It seems like a lot of things kind of came together and in hindsight it's easier to blame the kids with guns than the politicians who sent them to die.
