Operation Fork, the invasion of Iceland.
>Journey to Iceland
>One of the newly recruited marines committed suicide en route.[23] The voyage was otherwise uneventful.[17]
>Just before five o'clock in the morning, Fearless, loaded with around 400 marines, set out for the harbour.
>A small crowd had assembled, including several policemen still waiting for the customs boat. The British consul had received advance notice of the invasion and was waiting with his associates to assist the troops when they arrived. Uncomfortable with the crowd, Consul Shepherd turned to the Icelandic police. "Would you mind ... getting the crowd to stand back a bit, so that the soldiers can get off the destroyer?" he asked. "Certainly," came the reply.
>Down at the harbour, some of the locals protested against the arrival of the British. One Icelander snatched a rifle from a marine and stuffed a cigarette in it. He then threw it back to the marine and told him to be careful with it

>The Battle of Bridge 14
The armoured cars then moved forward towards a farmhouse, where another 20 Cubans stood outside, apparently in conference. Van Vuuren had by now also run out of ammunition for the Elands, and ordered his commanders to close hatches. The Cubans swarmed over the Elands and began firing. Van Vuuren returned their fire with a pistol, shooting through a turret hatch and killing eleven of the Cubans as they tried to climb onto the armoured cars. It later transpired that the Cubans had been smoking marijuana at the farmhouse, which explained their reckless attack on the Elands.

In the ensuing chaos, passengers that managed to flee the plane were then gunned down by snipers in positions around the airport who mistook them for terrorists attempting to escape. The total number of passengers killed was 57, out of 88 total.[7]

>On June 11, 1977, a Saturday morning and almost three weeks after the start of the hijacking, six F-104 Starfighter jetplanes flew low over the train at 5:00 AM with the purpose of disorienting the hijackers and also make the hostages duck down to the floor of the train where they would be relatively safe.
>Then marines of the special anti-terrorist unit Bijzondere Bijstands Eenheid started shooting at the train; an estimated 15,000 bullets were shot at the train. The marines aimed at the first class and in-between compartments with the doors because they knew these were the areas where the hijackers were hiding. Six hijackers were killed.

Enemy artillery fire was still exploding around the cars when a retreating Russian truck full of Cuban troops drove up behind the Elands. At first van Vuuren thought they were his own troops in a captured vehicle (many were used by the South Africans), but a quick radio message confirmed that they had to be the enemy. The truck's occupants were apparently also confused. They didn't fire, but tried to drive past the Elands, using the truck's indicator lights to signal their intention. Van Vuuren waited until it had overtaken his Eland and then slammed a 90mm shell into the rear of the truck, killing all of its 20 Cuban occupants

The danish lost 16 men, 20 wounded, one plane shot down
The germans lost around 200 men, 12 tanks, and a He11 bomber. Further 3 tanks damaged.
Worst part is though that even though the danes wanted to give a warning shot to the two ships sailing to Copenhagen, their cannon did not work.
At the ferry port in Gedser Harbour, a train engineer was forced to give the germans the control over the harbour. At first he told them that they had no right to hold maneuvres in Denmark...
Further, the germans threw letters from bombers to get the civlians to surrender. These letters where not written in proper danish.

>>33270037
I always find that funny. An inch of snow and bam, whole city shuts down. As I speak it's snowing outside right now, there's several inches, possibly over a foot of snow, and under that in some places is ice. We thought we were going to be done with the snow for the year but nope, it's making a comeback. Won't last much longer. Still, come spring, we'll be planting vegetables outside in the vegetable garden, and I'll be cursing the heat of the Summer while missing the snow and cold from the Winter, won't be able to wait for Autumn. Seriously, I can't stand heat over 20 Celcius (about 70 Fahrenheit), so you can imagine that while many Americans in the South might be useless up here in the -10s/20s or even -30s/40s in some places, in Celcius, I'd be pretty much equally as screwed when it gets to 100 Fahenheit or hotter.
Even in 80 Fahrenheit I'd be absolutely miserable. So there's some give and take. Americans in the south wouldn't do as well in Alaska, Russia, or Greenland as me (generally), but Americans in the south would be FAR better off in Africa, the Middle East, South America, Central America, or Central/Southern Asia than me. I'd need to head somewhere disgustingly hot for a fair while to acclimatise myself for heat first unless I want to have heat stroke.

What's up with Finland being the theater for the war on autism?
Is this some kind of secret war?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_R_4
"The Allies devised a plan to use the Soviet Union's 30 November 1939 attack on Finland as a cover for seizing both the Swedish ore fields in the north, and the Norwegian harbours through which it was shipped to Germany.
The plan was to get Norwegian and Swedish permission to send an expeditionary force to Finland across Sápmi, ostensibly to help the Finns. Once in place they were to proceed to take control of Swedish harbours and mines, occupying cities such as Gävle and Luleå and shutting down German access to Swedish ore, presenting Norway and Sweden with a fait accompli."
Basically England and friends were going to invade and occupy parts of Scandinavia, only they were upstaged by Germany by a couple of days.

>The machine-gunners' dreams of point blank fire into serried masses of Emus were soon dissipated. The Emu command had evidently ordered guerrilla tactics, and its unwieldy army soon split up into innumerable small units that made use of the military equipment uneconomic. A crestfallen field force therefore withdrew from the combat area after about a month.
