No, I'm not saying ban all vidya threads, I'm saying these particular types of thread. They bring nothing to the board at all. If people want to start threads comparing and contrasting vidja, then I'm fine with that. But these threads that are like "oooh look at this you can be a meme spewing faggot in our game come pay for it lol looks how in touch it is with you guys lol hahah xdxd!!!" are fucking cancerous and bring down the general quality of the board. (Not that there's any real quality here anyway, but still.)

Heavily.

Best mods are Project Nevada, J Sawyer and Realistic Headshots.
Realistic headshots basically makes you have to play the game like VATS enabled STALKER.
You have to carefully creep through every ruin and use cover wherever possible.

But, Stealth Boy abuse does completely break it.

Mostly because Bethesda are hacks, they have terrible texture artists and their meshes/texture placement is obscene.

There's a mod project for Skyrim that doesn't change a single texture, just fixes the mapping errors and makes the game look 1,000,000 times better.

Not going to defend them, but they were producing an indie game with an indie scope until Sony launched them into AAA status, with none of the benefits.

Bethesda on the other hand has hundreds of millions of dollars to throw at titles and they can't even map meshes correctly.
They used to be some of the best, but that was a long time ago, back before AAA development was even really a thing.
When you get saddled with the AAA market you need more staff, you need more money - individual quality is lost to necessity of quantity.
Look at Bioware, last good game they made was ME2 - and they were already in decline after ME1.

But I've got to say one of Bethesda's biggest failings is their misdealing against Obsidian.
They gave Obsidian a ridiculously short development time to follow up what was one of the biggest games of 2008, then shortened that target in the middle of development - then when the game's Metacritic missed its target for bonus by one or two points, they didn't pay out despite forcing Obsidian to release an unfinished game.
Obsidian still developed New Vegas, a game that was still way better than FO3 - it's clear that fans would prefer that obsidian be THE Fallout developer, if not at least given another cycle of it, but they're holding onto it and they're butchering the license.

Morrowind did everything right. Crazy customization, gorgeous graphics (my jaw dropped the first time I got off the boat and saw the water). The world was incredible and rewarding to explore. There were no goddamn waypoint markers. You'd get a journal entry with some landmarks and general compass directions and you'd have to figure it out. Exploring wasn't a chore because bethesda put interesting quests, items, and landscapes to discover on the way. Fast travel was limited to a few paid rides and iirc a teleportation spell. The game made you feel like you had add because whenever you try to do one task you'll get pulled in a million other directions because they put something enticing under every rock. When I first played it my mind was blown that someone created an entire world with this level of detail. It was really a labor of love and it showed.

I miss that. Skyrim did a good job of beefing up the main quest and the setting is admittedly cool as was dragon slaying. However, they did a lot of things that casualized the game and made it feel less special.

the thing that really pisses me off about Ubisoft is that they consistently produce interesting games and release them in an obviously unfinished state. Far Cry 4 is the worst offender I can think of, it set everything up excellently yet it all started going to shit before the first half of the game even ended. You can tell the devs got hasty and left a ton of shit out.
>>
>>33249429
Soase (with all major DLC it's fun, modding community is janky though), Arma 2 (or 3 with mods), Wargame (ALB was better IMHO, Reddragon and all subsequent DLC is fine too I guess), AoE (2) is fun, RO:2, and that's about it for me as far as /k/ related goes. Well yeah, that was FC4s whole shock twist. Sabal brings shariah law to Tibet if you side with him and Anita turns the place into a narco state if you choose her. They were going for a "really makes you think" kind of moral grey, but because the game has such a lame final few hours it fall kind of flat.

not fully hashed out but not completely terribru either. For example adding long barrels to the SCAR 17 - you get the Scar Mk20 SSR Stock but if you slap the long barrel on you are still left with the short handguard/rail.
Paint is a bit underwhelming as well.

Missing - Weapon families: Should be able to MP5K an MP5, M16/C7 an M4, etc
Needs more optics and iron sight choices for flattop guns
paint individual parts without being reliant on a preset and having a narrow range of colors
Grenade Launcher iron sights
Adjustable sights. A concern for iron sight usage - a EOtech with multiple hashlines and a G33 would be nice as well.

LMG's badly need bipods, couldn't hurt on sinper rifles either

Compensator V1 should be compatible with a suppressor - it is IRL

Give me more pistol suppressor options than the fucking osprey meme box.

Needs a few more shotguns, and perhaps up the damage at range of shotguns slightly.
Game badly needs LAW's/RPG's/Carl G's/etc
Uniform customization is excellent - it only needs more k-pots, and some non-US cammies and vests.

The game runs very well, is smooth as butter when it comes to controls, with only one slight quirk in helo flight (transitioning from slow/auto hover to forward/full tilt flight). It's also fucking gorgeous and fun as fuck.

I feel the same way. It felt risky but I don't regret it. On co-op extreme the game is tactical as fuck by sheer necessity. On the plus side it sounds like the devs are working on fixing vehicle handling.

I saw a decent amount of servers up when I used Game Ranger a few weeks back to play Total Annihilation with a buddy of mine. Occasionally you'll be able to find a server through the ingame browser too. Rainbow Six 3 still has servers running though.

Here's some more games I think /k/ would enjoy, if they're not already playing. Will try to avoid obvious/meme games like arma, stalker, etc.
>pic related
>Artemis: Space Ship Bridge Simulator. You, and up to 5(?) other people take up different positions/ranks on the bridge of a star ship. You do whatever you want in various scenarios.
>Baldur's Gate / Neverwinter Nights series. D&D 3.5 rules. Perfect for the medieval /k/ommando that digs tacti-magical squad based rpgs.
>Bro Force. Side-scrolling shoot em up featuring literally EVERY action hero from the '70's to the early '00's.
>Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Basically 'What if Oblivion had fluid controls and a linear story?' the game.
>Jade Empire. Kung Fu KotOR. There is no greater weapon than you.
>Nuclear Dawn. Fusion of FPS and RTS. Team Commanders handled RTS aspects while everyone else tried to capture resources for base building. RIP no one plays anymore.
>Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. You play as 40k's version of Obi-wan. He even has his own version of 'a certain point of view'
>Spacehulk: Deathwing. Left 4 Dead: 40k Edition.
>Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D. It's just Rogue Squadron 64 on Steam, the nostalgia makes it worth it.
>Starbound. Terraria in space. Lots of cool weapons.
>Ultimate Chicken Horse. Not /k/ related in the least but it is fun as fuck when you're drunk/stoned with your buddies. It's basically competitive Mario Maker.

the gamezone is just a large checklist of secondary shit to do while tagging ressources like mgsV.
you'd quickly get dissapointed if you think the same about ubisoft games, i only liked the third person make-your-operator style.
you'll have to ulock weapon and mods by assaulting cartel's base instead of having an in-game currency that let you buy stuff.

You ain't kidding. Me and my buddy have been rolling in Black with tan rigs and helmets (Basically the aesthetic as fuck Shadow Company), fucking loving it too. We change camo for jungles and snow, but that's our "standard" look.

Good gun selection too, currently rolling with a suppressed Vityaz, single shot only, a DSR-1 with a yuge scope, 10 round mags and a suppressor and a suppressed 1911 with light gray paint, so it kinda looks stainless.

Been mainly providing overwatch, it's fun as fuck. Use my binos to scope the camp out, wait until my buddy's close enough to sneak in and cover his ass.

I'm annoyed you can't suppress the Nugget and the Sterling though. I realise the former's a fucking monstrosity, but I still kinda wanted to have an old school loadout.

Oh, and the Vikhr is top notch at the start of the game. I used it for fucking ages until I ventured into a high-level area to get an M4.

Some autist made a "movie version" of every MGS game, the cutscenes plus the most relevant codec calls plus some clips of important gameplay moments. Just search it on youtube, you'll find it.

They're not AS good or immersive as actually playing the games, but they don't take so long and are still good for nostalgia.

Wildlands is a frustrating game for me. Not a sin, frustrating to play, more like frustrating to behold.

Its map is impressive. It's large, and varied, and different regions have different climates in a realistic (well, real-world) fashion. The drop-in co-op works exactly like it should, it doesn't impose arbitrary limits like keeping a group close together or locking out content or having a separate, secondary coop mode instead. I like that Santa Blanca and Unidad fight and act differently, the two enemy factions are actually distinct from one another through more than the color of their UI indicators.

But there are just so many little annoyances that mar the experience. It's frustrating seeing a merely good game that could've been a fantastic one with six months of development or just, for that matter, the developers giving a shit.

The game hasn't improved in a technical sense since the closed or open betas, the latter seems to have basically been a pre-release free weekend for marketing purposes. I have no problem with a demo, but calling it a beta implies its job is to highlight problems to be fixed before release - Ubisoft has an endemic problem of apparently considering bugtesting and QA to be a post-release process. This may go away in six months or so, but they seem to just be punishing the fools who buy their games at launch rather than waiting for it to be 75% off in a Steam sale in a year. In my personal experience (i7 4970K, GTX970), the game has numerous bugs that range from funny to unplayable. I've fallen through the world many times. I've crashed to desktop about once every three hours of play or so. I've put up with random framerate drops, freezes, graphical glitches, and other signs of bad optimization. I've put up with bugged quests forcing restarts.

The voice lines are so narrow. You'll hear the same three fucking lines over and over and over again, as pointed out here. >>33276779
The 'tactical' radio voices sound fake and gay. You'll rapidly grow sick of hearing "Got eyes on a tango!" "Eyes on a small group of tangos!" every single time you spot an enemy. You'll get sick of defending a rebel radio broadcasting the exact same message over and over again.

Like all Ubisoft open-world titles, it has a few annoying design problems. For one, the UI is incredibly invasive. Everything has a marker. The minimap shows exactly where enemies are and how many there are, with a small (too small to really be obscuring) field instead of a dot for any un-spotted enemies. Thus, what could be a tense sweep-and-clear operation turns into a boring paint by numbers elimination. There are markers in the world over everything, and CONSTANT popups telling you to press Enter to join a public lobby. I don't want to join a public lobby, Ubisoft, PLEASE give me a fucking option to say "Fuck off and don't suggest this again."
>But you can turn the UI off by pressing numpad minus-
Taking with it both useless and useful features. It would surely not be THAT hard to let me pick and choose which UI elements to keep via the options menu. I do like being able to see what weapon or item (like grenades etc) I have equipped. This feels like a screenshotting tool, not a viable means of playing the game.

The other big Ubisoft vice? FUCKING COLLECTABLES. You don't just have shit on the map to collect, no, that's not collecting enough. Now you have to collect collectables just to reveal the collectables in a region. There are, what, five different types of intel you have to collect just to reveal a region's collectables? On TOP of needing to collect intel for all the main missions as well? That's fucking stupid. God fucking damn it. Did I mention you also need to collect resources in the world in order to upgrade skills and the like, too? Look, I don't mind having some stuff to find in areas missions will take you through, but sending me on a fucking scavenger hunt just to use features of the game like gun customization is not fucking fun. I will cede one thing - given the map is fully open-ended and given the guns, gun parts and the like will tell you which region they are located in, if you really want you could build your ideal loadout in a couple of hours and then not think about it again. But that's not having fun with a feature, that's working in advance in order to skip it. Every fucking Ubisoft open-world game seems to think it's fun to get away from doing whatever the game is about (shooting or stabbing bad guys, usually) and instead picking up literally hundreds of items on a map just to clear icons on the map. Far Cry does it. Assassin's Creed does it. Watchdogs does it. Wildlands does it. I do not understand why Ubisoft thinks this is entertaining. Seriously, can somebody please explain why Ubisoft thinks this shit is so appealing, every fucking one of their games has to do it? At least I'm not climbing fucking towers to reveal the map, I guess.

The enemy AI is retarded. At most, they will take cover when shooting at you. That's the depth of their tactical awareness. They're incredibly easy to exploit. I once cleared an entire base by sniping one guy, having that guy get seen, and watching the entire base flood out of the same exit one or two at a time, calmly popping them when they ran out in a predictable path with a suppressed rifle. I have to consciously not abuse the AI in order to have fun with the game. I can do that, and I do have fun, but it shouldn't be a viable tactic to know that no matter how big the pile of sicarios by the front entrance gets, the AI will never be dissuaded from running outside to see what's going on.

Gun customization is a disappointment. It has basic stuff like a longer barrel for better accuracy, worse handling and a shorter barrel for better handling, worse accuracy. I'm still not entirely clear what "handling" is. It doesn't seem to affect much, maybe it's recoil? Other than that, you have a handful of guns that let you switch between burst and FA, a small selection of scopes and holo sights (by the way, good luck getting any scope but an ACOG 4x for your sniper rifles until you actively go out and search for one, as none are in any area below three-skull difficulty). Paint is boring, nothing interesting, just camos that all look stupid on a gun anyway. Frankly, a scoped assault rifle with a suppressor is the only gun you will actually need for 95% of the game, maybe use a sniper rifle in a couple segments for the sake of variety. The advanced suppressor skill, which you would be foolish not to grab ASAP, removes any need to use anything else. Oh, and the guns don't even feel all that great to shoot, and they have ridiculously unrealistic low bullet velocity and high bullet drop. Sniping at 300m feels like sniping at over a kilometer instead.

The side-quests are repetitive. You'll be clearing out the exact same copy and paste network building over and over and over again. Grabbing a sicario who runs away and calling him a pendejo until he cries is funny the first or second time, and rapidly becomes obnoxious afterwards. The network antenna race is just fucking stupid. All the other sidequests involve stealing a helicopter or light plane (generally by shooting murdering the people around it) and flying an entirely uneventful, boring 5km or so to an airfield and landing it.

The main quests are also repetitive. They're almost universally "Go here and kill this guy," "Go here and extract this guy," or "Go here and defend this objective." Okay, okay, any FPS or 3PS can be broken down into "Go here and shoot people," I do cede that, but there is very little variety in the missions even relative to other Ubisoft open world action games. Far Cry had much better variety. The only variety to be found here is that sometimes your objective is in a convoy, and sometimes you have to do the objective in stealth. Aren't forced-stealth "fail if detected" missions contrary to the "pick your playstyle" approach the game touts as a major feature? At least in open-play I can change it up and go for a direct assault or call in rebels and get into a huge firefight or call in mortars if I'm bored of "suppressed headshot, move forward, suppressed headshot, move forward."

The story is nonexistent. If you want story, read Clear And Present Danger. It's the exact same plot, but that at least has the benefit of actually being written by the real Tom Clancy. The setup is also disappointing. Basically, each region is ruled by an underboss who reports to a middle manager who reports to one of the bad guy's inner circle. You kill the underbosses to access their bosses, kill their bosses to access the inner circle, kill the inner circle and el jefe de los jefes shows up, kill him and win. That's all. That's it. I would've liked something more ambitious. Just as an example, it could've taken cues from Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis system and let you play cartel guys off against one another, setting one up to be murdered by another or recruiting one to be your inside man. That would've felt interactive, rather than a paint-by-numbers exercise in checking off a checklist.

Now with all that said...it is fun. There are moments when the game does seem to come alive, when me and three friends pull off something awesome or something crazy or just screw up and have a good laugh about it. Its coop is quite well done. The only frustrating thing is that it's merely a good, but unexceptional entry into Ubisoft's annual line of open-world map clearing exercises - when it's painfully obvious it could've been an outstanding game, a GOTY contender, with a little earnest care and effort.

Save your $60. If you want a recent coop action game, get Sniper Elite 4 or save some money and buy Far Cry 3 (has a coop campaign) and 4 (allows free drop-in coop like Wildlands). Wait a year for Ubisoft to actually finish developing the fucking game and buy it half-off once it's bugtested by us saps who stupidly drop $60 on unfinished games. You'll have a cheaper and more enjoyable experience if you do.

I mean, single player is straight up twice as hard as multiplayer with the omnipotent AI, multiplayer is mostly about having the best deck compared to the other team, tactics and strategy-wise, it's not too different from traditional RTS's

I'd recommend Naval War: AC if it didn't have so many bugs and performance issues, it's the closest to a "realistic" depiction of modern warfare in an RTS
>>
>>33278671
>most realistic and enjoyable
Literally any modern shooter I've played has higher quality animations, more details and effects from firing, better sounds, and more weight to recoil and handling. I understand why this is, and I'm okay with it-but if you can't accept it you're retarded.

You're playing it wrong, Wargame is about positioning and prepardness, the APM is significantly lower to the point anyone bragging about APM is laughed out of any discussion. The Division forever soured the Tom Clancy series of games for me. Fuck tactical Borderlands. Rather good. Devs care for it and keep free content coming, understands how to keep a degree of historical accuracy without going full autism/ no fun allowed, well balanced with a variety of rolls and squad types.
However, it is clunky as fuck at time and controls can be unforgivably non-responsive.
I enjoy Battlefield 1, but if I feel the need for a slower paced and more realistic first world war game- Verdun is pretty much the only choice.
