I hate that Karl got to record the Forgotten Weapons video.
It should have been done alone by Ian in the classical way, since this is the only time we will get this gun.
The camera work is so fucking bad.
>>
>>33242859
But that other video was inrange.
>>
>>33242744
Still waiting for a PSG-1.
>>
>>33242744
Really neat he got to show a Walther, they where in every gun book I read in the 1980s as a young gun-nut growing up and how they where basically german unobtainium magical things. The engineering behind it is pretty damn bizarre for a service rifle of any type.
>>
>>33243380
>pretty damn bizarre
Not really if you think about it,to me looks like extremely well machine shop working prototype that got pushed in production without thinking about the cost.
>>
>>33243455
Or practicability.
Taking the bolt out looks painful.
>>
>>33243488
Ian is a big guy
>>
>>33243505
No he isn't.
>>
>>33243455
Yeah, but imagine its 1985.
Back then we'd roll up to a range with a heavy barrelled bolt action in something like 308, big ol scope and that was sort of the 'pinnacle of accuracy' for us so to speak, but mechanically it was still early 1900's era technology. A semi-auto, in a 300WM- that was practically unthinkable at least from an accuracy point of view, so to have something like that actually working, then thrown into (limited) production and still putting pills downrange on target was fairly special for the time.
>>
I'm probably the minority. But this gun is ugly as fuck and looks equally delicate.
>>
Jesus, I knew the WA2000 was rare and expensive, but I didn't know it was $9k in 1988 expensive.

That's almost what a Honda Accord cost in the same year, so based on the current price of an Accord I'd say this gun would be at least $20k in 2017 dollars. (If it were sold new, obviously it's worth much more because of its rarity.)
>>
>>33243455
I wonder if you could get similar results from an AR-10?

Do you think the parts' finished surfaces are ground?
>>
>tfw you will never get to hug a WA2000

>>33243455
I was thinking the same thing. The whole thing is bar stock and plates. Very few specifically made components like you would find on production guns. You can even see how the gas block was welded together from two pieces of round stock.
>>
>>33243455
>looks like extremely well machine shop working prototype that got pushed in production without thinking about the cost
Sort of what I'm thinking. Like they pushed out a few prototypes, they got offers for it, and just decided it was good enough. A lot of things could be simplified if the product were to have been matured, but who really knows if the market was going to wait for an answer from Walther especially when H&K was already cranking out PSG-1's for the same market.
>>33244428
>I wonder if you could get similar results from an AR-10?
Like the originals? Probably not.
>>
>>33243516
He looks no taller than 5'10", and he's fairly skinny.
>>
>>33244799
The fucking bar on the inside of the bottom tube that holds the handguard in place got me. What the fuck were they thinking with that? Allowing it to slide around like that? I get that it was never meant to be stripped to that extent out of an armory, but fuck, come on.
>>
>>33244917

>>33244917
Really, what's more surprising is they were bought just like that.
Watching Ian's video has cleared up some of the mysticism about the rifles, but now brings up the question of who was dropping 9k for these rifles when clearly it wasn't a finished product
>>
why hasn't anyone made Wa2000 clones?

>PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS
>FUCK WALTHER, WHAT ARE YOU? KEL-TEC?

>>33244958
Yeah, it really explains why this never really made it farm despite looking cool.

>>33244980
Cost of manufacture, Walther couldn't have been profiting too much on those things with all the sideplates and shit having to be precision machined.
>>
>>33245026
but cheap 4 axis CNC mills exist now.

dozens of companies make their own AR pattern rifles from billet these days.

Wa2000 was made back in the dark ages.

>Yuropoor governments scared shitless by Munich and wanting a semi auto sniper rifle
H&K PSG-1 was produced like the same year. The WA-2000 came 10 years later. So again, who looked at this unfinished abomination and deemed it a better buy than the finished and cheaper PSG-1?

You'd get far superior results in terms of accuracy, weight, maneuverability and cost. a 6.5creed AR10 with a free floated match barrel would shit all over this pos all day.
>>

Chinese made these rifles WITH russian tooling TO russian specifications
>>
>>33245887

The chinks have always made russian guns better than the russians themselves.
>>
>>33245059
And the specs for ARs are practically common knowledge while references are everywhere.that doesn't exist with the WA2000.

Closest you can get is a 10/22 kit.besides no way in hell a clone would be profitable

The answer is almost no one except for a few civilians and a very small single digit number of German Police units. The PSG-1 caught on with CTs of the era. Although bullpup gucci police sniper rifles would comeback in the guise of the DSR-1.

I wouldn't care if he said he buys it because it's good and he likes it, but he only mentioned the brand because they gave him a free box. Ian is a literal whore now, he's sullied his pure and honest name by shilling in his video.

There's even ARs in .338
