That way, you don't have a bolt-action pistol, and you have a bolt-action rifle.

If you had no way to scratch build a pistol, maaaaybe.

One problem with a bolt action rifle, is that you can't really have very long a barrel, because the magazine is forward of the trigger.

But you could take the barrel and bolt and use those in a DIY pistol, with a magazine in the grip like normal pistols, which would allow you to have a barrel twice as long with the overall length not changed.

Yeah, if you're sick of being able to actually hunt & shoot accurately with it.
Even if you do a perfect job and make an excellent crown, pistols amplify any human error x10. They're just a lot harder to shoot accurately.

Good for a gator hunting kill stick.

Rat/snake shot in rattler country.

Flares/blanks for signaling, bonfire lighting, or waking up the camp with a trip wire.

You know there are actually 22lr pistols, right? I mean ones that come that way out of the factory, so you don't have to chop up a rifle to make one. Some are actually pretty nice, like the Ruger SR22.

You would lose any discernible advantage of a .22 rifle by cutting down the barrel length, and in exchange you get a worse version of a gun you could find everywhere by just scavenging.

No way. 2 rifles is a great setup, allows you to a fellow survivor and have fallback.

Get a better fucking gun in a real caliber if you ever intend on using it. If you just want a conversation piece to whip out at the range, go for it, but understand there is no practical application for it. Including shit hitting the fan.

Hunting rifles only come in .308 and .50 unless you're modding. Even then, .22lr doesn't exist.
