Cool documentary. Anyone know of a decommissioned submarine stationed at port that one can board?

I went on the USS batfish as a wee lad, though it's on ground.
>>
>>33231476
The one in the OP is a museum ship that anyone can go aboard. It's also the only Type XXI U-Boat in the world.

OP Submarine can be visited in Bremerhaven, Germany..
There are a Type VIIC / U995 in Laboe near Kiel and two russian submarines in Hamburg and Peenemuende
>>
I've watched three submarine movies in the past two days after going on a cruise. Das Boot is an awesome movie.
>>
>>33231476
The USS Growler is parked next to the Intrepid in NYC and you can tour it.

There's a Russian sub next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA, and I toured it years ago, but apparently it's no longer open to the public.
>>
>>33231476
You can tour the Natilus in Groton, CT.

Seems almost like the RN looked at the Russian Typhoon design and flipped it around for their future SSBN.

USS Cod. Cleveland Ohio. I went in it a couple years ago and you had full reign to walk around the sub without a guide.

Anyone ever play subsims? There's a new one coming out that's going to have to Skipjack, Permit and Los Angeles classes along with the USS Narwhal. Looks neat, just not sure how it would play since the genre has been dead for so long.

Dangerous waters is a great game. I play it with the reinforce alert mod.

I had a relative who served on subs during WW2 that was part of the crew that setup the Blueback exhibit. He arranged for my scout troop to get an overnighter on it.

There's a diesel-electric that you can tour at the Kure JMSDF Museum, the Akishio. Commissioned 1987, decomissioned 2004, so a relatively recent sub.

Always respect the fanny pack anon, especially when worn in conjunction with short shorts, and a state trooper mustache.

>be me
>be inna military high school, first year cadet
>have new commandant
>commandant is Navy O6, retired from commanding a boomer
>play Sub Command with him over school's network (T3)
>school has problems with kids using school's networks for games
>school bans gaming over the network but takes zero steps to actually stop it, just punishes cadets caught doing it
>still play Sub Command with commandant
>Tac Officer (retired NCO's with offices in our barracks) comes into my room
>keep playing, don't exit the game or even pause
>asked if playing over network
>respond in the affirmative, not a care in the world
>get an earful about it, promised untold punishment for my brazen disregard for the rules
>pick up phone
>dial
>Say, "Sir, I'm afraid we'll have to discontinue this military simulation. I'm having problems with my chain of command over here."
>wat.wav
>commandant asks me what's wrong
>hand phone to now furious Tac Officer
>Commandant gives explicit orders exempting me from multiplayer rule for the sake of "military simulations" to Tac Officer
>Tac Officer pissed
>smug.jpg

Fun times. We eventually spent a weekend wherein he had watch duty (teachers or others had to stay in barracks on a rotating basis to be available on weekends for generally watching the cadets, as a kind of office hours, etc.) in our barracks rigging the barracks office with a huge subwoofer and speakers to play Silent Hunter II with really loud depth charge and ping sounds.

Never joined the military, but I feel based on that experience alone that I'd make a decent submariner given the almost master class in tactics I got from ages 14-16.

I certainly hope that "Cold Waters" handles submarines better than Atlantic Fleet does. The dynamic campaign for Atlantic Fleet is basically "spam U-Boats to win."

Is it possible for modern submarine to overcome ASW measures especially airborne one?

Submarine seems useless except in nuclear warfare.

Kek, nice coincidence as this past week I finally started giving SH5 serious attention and yesterday finished installing the Wolves of Steel supermod. Vanilla SH5 is an abomination and that is a fact no one will disagree with. But thanks to the extraordinarily devoted subsim community, it has wonderful mods which have turned it into the game it should have been from the start.

The only one I've played extensively was SH4. I'm a sucker for anything Cold War though so I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
