ITT: we talk about shotgun shells. Which are your favorite to shoot, what do use for x, do you make your own loads, and my current question: buckshot or flachettes?

General shotgun discussion is welcome and appreciated as well.

Buckshot for anything smaller than 40mm (203 load) and even then flechette is sub par.
>>
>>33230578
What's a good load for apartment home defense? Don't want to take out the neighbors along with a burglar

Muh buckshot mold. 00 buckshot on one side and #4 buck on the other. I like #4 buck for home defense and 00 buck for close range pig hunting.
>>
>>33231118
3" magnum lead slugs with a titanium carbide center
Or 12ga tungsten flechettes.
If your significant other wants to redecorate, time delayed magnesium nitride flare jacketed in iron/copper mix

Fiocchi target loads are definitely my favorite fun loads through a x-full choke.
Most of the time, they hold damn tight in a wad that doesn't want to let it's petals come out and release the shot like normal.
It's cheap, and often more entertaining than much more expensive loads because of this.

some low powered buck shot.

Also aim for center of mass. I doubt buck shot will go all the way threw a mans chest, AND THEN punch threw drywall, insulation, studs and dry wall again, and then hit anything.

Center of mass, buck shot, or fuck the neighbors and load slugs.
I wish I had that martini Henry shotgun, I would load slugs and scream shut like "BLOODY ELL CHAPS THE ZULU ARE BACK!!!"

>fixed webm on this post, forgot to use high quality mode
Yup. Actually had a couple stovepipes in a single mag that day too, which is one more than I typically have in a whole year or two of clay shooting with it.
Caught one of them on slowmo too, so it's kindof fun to watch.
But that's typical for how horrendously long I go between cleanings while using it pretty heavily.
You should see the pile of carbon I got out of the gas ports with dental tools. I usually wait till something like that happens, then get in there with the picks.
>>
>>33231719
At least 4 boxes were sitting in that recycle pile I guess.
I don't eat it all that often.

if you set up a heated pot to hold molten lead in, and a gear that slowly tips it, you can drip lead into cold water and it will form perfect spheres that are surface hardened by the temperature change. it takes a bit of finicking to get the dripping just right, but it doesn't have to be too exact and when you succeed, you can turn a pound of lead into a pound of good quality shot very rapidly.

>favorite to shoot
For skeet, AA-clone 28ga handloads. For trap, 1oz 12ga Green Dot handloads. For pheasant and chukar, 20ga 1oz handloads with nickel plated 5s. For ducks, Fiocchi Speed Steel 3" 1 1/5oz #3s. For geese, 10ga 1 7/8oz #1 Black Cloud.

Target, because it doesn't dislodge my shoulder.

People complain mosins are bad, no, no they are not. Shotguns are far, far worse.
>>
>>33231721
lol this is exactly how I expected the saiga to function before I even clicked on the webm
>>
>>33231864
ehh, I think I'll get more uniformity out of the mold, interesting idea though
>>
>>33231905
Do you know anywhere to buy buckshot? All I see is too expensive, as it would be cheaper to just buy a complete shell.
>>
>>33232091
I'm pretty sure that is how saigas work with birdshot from what I've heard.
My vepr barely ever has an issue, except for those 2 this year within a mag. Must have just passed the point where the crud plugged the ports too bad.
The pile of black chunks I pulled from the gas block was the diameter of a penny, and the pile was stacked as high as you could possibly stack it. So pretty damn bad before it caused issues.
>>
>>33232304
Nope. Unless youre trying for really accurate buffered loads or odd shot sizes like #3buck you're better off buying factory.
>>
>>33233008
Damn, but also thanks for responding.
