I have lots of experience firing rifles but not much with pistols, though I have fired a few.
I live in Missouri which has no permit concealed carry
want something small enough to literally have on me at all times

Depends. What are you interested in?
Classic bolt-action rifles? M1 Garand.
Modern rifles? Accuracy International AW150F.
Sub-machine guns? Heckler & Koch MP5.
Assault Rifles? M416.
Pistols? Glock 17 (I would recommend a Desert Eagle .50, but those are kinda pricey)
It all depends on what you prefer, and your shooting experience. If you haven't got any, I recommend starting off with small arms (pistols, bolt-action rifles) and work your way up.
