check out fence hardware, maybe some fancy oversized handles will fit your mutant hands.

Get some 1/2" wide steel flat stock at the hardware store and bend it in a vice. Then get either a 1/2" dowel or 1/2" neoprene round stock and cut it in half to make your handle.
