Should I bother picking up something from Surefire?

Also WML general
>>
As much as I hate asking. Why an FNS? What is their appeal compared to a Glock 17/19, M&P, P320?
>>
>>33216120
It's a glock with perfect sights, full ambi controls, correct grip angle, excellent grip texture and metal mags right out of the box.

All that said none of that is why I oper8 with them, I train on them because they physically fit me the best, in the end that's the most important factor.

The LOP on the trigger is anatomically correct with my fingers, I can get a super aggressive high tang grip and not interfere with any controls (a big issue for me on my HKs, god bless 'em). I don't have to break/adjust my grip to operate any of the controls.

Never even seen one of surefire's. If their profile is similar to streamlights then I'd say read on durability. Otherwise the odd form factor imo would be a no-go. Unless you plan to make your own holsters.
>>
>>33216436
Kinda ambiguously worded, are you asking me why I would buy a brand other than surefire or why I would buy an additional WML?

>Otherwise the odd form factor imo would be a no-go.

Huh? Surefire is as common if not more common than streamlight from what I understand.

Before you ask, yes, that's a X300U-B; I was weaponlight shopping right after the -B came out and couldn't find an -A anywhere.
I maintain that the -A has the better mounting system, especially for polymer rails like on a Glock, but the -B hasn't fallen off my gun yet so I'm not going to spend $$$ on a nearly-identical replacement, especially since doing so would mean $$$ on a new holster, as well.
>>
>>33221042
x300b has the better mounting system, it doesnt have 6 tiny screws to worry about
>>
>>33221088
Cite one instance of the -A's mounting screws working themselves loose or the QD levers allowing the light to inadvertently detach from the host weapon.
>>
>>33221042
thanks for contributing with /k/lass m8.

Didn't realize there was ANY controversy surrounding surefire mounting systems, looks like it's really a non-issue though eh?
>>
>>33216339
How did you mount a surefire on a gg&g adapter?
>>
>>33217696
It's a bit more difficult than that as you need for holster to be built with the rail adapter included
>>
>>33221210
I can't imagine firing enough rounds in succession, without an opportunity to inspect and (if needed) retighten the mounting screw, such as would cause the light to fall off, and even if I did, the light would be unusable at that point from all the soot that would have accumulated on the lens, anyway.

If your mag's not dropping free, what it's made of isn't the reason. Your failure to maintain your weapon is.

Also a full metal mag coated in plastic is hardly "some metal components."

It's is commonly accepted metal mags on plastic magwell drops free more consistently and reliably - I am not making this up, or trying to bully you.

Why can you not accept a simple and true statement?

Why is this like pulling teeth?

I'm not saying your gun is bad, I'm stating metal on plastic is an improvement.

And it is, objectively, get over it, pick another battle, you guys look dumb as fuck defending this shit.

Guess what? I have a USP40 and a USP9 Compact, it's pretty simple with a few mag releases to self asses and determine one is better designed than the other, this is not rocket science, this is you faggots picking fights because you are too emotionally immature to accept some material goods you might posses are out performed by material goods others posses.

Talk shit about my choices all you want - I'm not dependent on a 3rd party's hardware to determine my shooting self worth, just stop being obtuse, you look stupid.

.40 is awesome stop sucking bureaucratic bean counters dicks and regurgitating reductive internet talking points. Energy will always matter in terminal ballistics, even if it is difficult to quantify in dynamic, unique real life shootings. Crush cavities and permanent tissue trauma are primarily imparted this way - this is science and fact.

Also I own the "only other 40 worth owning" too.

And just to nip this in the bud I own 10 9x19s and carry one daily so my perspective is unbiased.
>>
>>33222134
I wouldn't carry a USP so if it's a range gun it's 9mm or .45 only for me in autoloaders. .40 has it's merits, but not for a range only gun.

Also the "other .40 worth owning" is a 3rd gen smith.

I shot USPSA major with .40 at one point so not a hater.

Because IMHO .40 really benefits from 4.5" or longer barrels as the energy gains are really efficient in that setting, well OK that's not the real reason...

The important component is I have not gotten around to buying an FNS-40 and FNS-40C yet , I just have the long slide.

When/if I do purchase them I would be very confident carrying them.

But despite my sperging I'm totally confident with 9x19 too because whatever dip in kinetic energy transfer/crush cavity I take by carrying my 9x19 I'm way more concerned with making my hits and shooting fast, I can shave about .15 off a follow up shot split with a 9x19 vs 40 witch is proportionally almost the exact discrepancy in energy.

So long and short is on paper and in theory crafting I can deliver almost the exact same permanent tissue crushing in almost the exact same time, the variation is down to an extra shot or two or the extra energy.

>Also the "other .40 worth owning" is a 3rd gen smith.

Not to be rude, but you clearly have not shot an FNS-40L, it really is a work of art, the platform was designed around the 40 and built down and the 5" barrel + low bore access and recoil spring design turn it into a 4" 124 grain shooting 9x19.

I'm also a bit out on a limb because I haven't shot a 3rd gen S&W steel framed TDA but I'm telling you right here, right now - as someone who shoots a lot, I'm not embellishing the merits of this design.
>>
>>33222040
You don't seem to understand so let me break this down barney style.

You are taking something that is at best an extremely small isue local to shit mags, and/or shit frames, taken from data from people who in all likelyhood didn't maintain their firearm, and blowing it up like it's this huge issue that effects all plastic mags.

Just like fags who that Glocks are hand granades unironicly.

I'm not doing that at all, go back and read my first post talking about steel mags. I stated clearly and unequivocally that that shit is an almost non-issue.

It's a small component of design efficiency that can generally and easily be overlooked.

It would be the only light system I owned if It had 400-600 lumens, even with a base 200 it;s in the running.

Paddle activation is nice and more intuitive - downside it's way easier to unintentionally activate on the draw or general use, a good holster goes a long way with the APL.

It's also more compact, lighter t and form-fitted than my streamlights.

I like P2KSK aesthetics, but seeing your hand dominate that grip makes me glad I went with a P30SK. With the right grip panels she fills the hand beautifully.

Have you picked up some 15 round mags for your pinky?

Need help choosing TLR-1 vs TLR-1S

How do the controls differ? Which is more suited to being run on an AR?

Is there any better value than the TLR-1?

I am both your (You)s so take it for what that's worth.

I don't carry or mess with any of my 4 HKs anymore, the lack of full fingered grip is one thing but it's easier just to link >>33216295
To explain my carry choices - hand requirements beat all, every time.

And no, I'm not full of shit or on the cool aid with the FNS-40L, I've shot a lot of auto loaders in various configurations and calibers, it is quite legit. Are there any specific points you would like me to address?

The protac

For a rifle? The Inforce, or a Surefire handheld in a mount.

We're cool. Tragic turn of events regarding your HK's - they've turned me to the DA/SA side.

My first handgun ever was an FNS. Ended up with a .40 because I was headed into bear country (not optimal but better than 9mm). Hasn't skipped a beat in the 5 years I've had her, and while I went with 9mm for all subsequent handguns, I've always been glad I own a larger caliber. Firing .40 in a full-size like the FNS is particularly enjoyable and if the weather permitted more forgiving CC attire, I'd carry it way more often.

First off, Strealmlights have durable everything but switches. I have heard that the TLR switches break with repeated use on pistols. So that is one reason I wouldn't put them on a rifle.

Unless it is a Surefire, get a dedicated rifle light, like the Protac, Scout, or Inforce
>>
>>33225903
Ok ok, what went wrong with the light?
>>
>>33225907
>Inforce
>dedicated rifle light
I was confused and thought we were talking about the APL (obviously not a dedicated rifle light)

I'll explain my situation a bit more: already have light mount on AR, looking for a handgun light that would also be worthwhile/rugged enough to use on an AR (just in case)
>>
>>33225943
Surefire X-300. If you insist on using a streamlight, then just get the cheapest most normal TLR-1. The strobe is a gimmick. Maybe even the HL would be good, but that is too bright for indoor and pistol use.
>>
>>33225958
>The strobe is a gimmick. Maybe even the HL would be good, but that is too bright for indoor and pistol use.
precisely my thoughts. (un)fortunately there seems to be no 'discount' for lacking strobe - cheapest I can find are all right around 105/110 shipped

I'll revisit the x300...thanks for your insights /k/omrade

>creating a mini sun in your house doesn't help you.

Except it does. A light illuminates what you need to see, giving you information. A brighter light will let you see more of what is going on, giving you more information than a lower lumen light
>B-B-B-B-BUT YOU'LL BLIND YOU'RESELF!!!!1

You will not curl into a ball crying for mommy when you accidentally flash yourself on a white wall or mirror. If you do happen to flash yourself doing this, who the fuck says you can't turn off your light? Yes, you will blind yourself if you keep staring at it.

And goddammit if you don't even know the layout of your house to even avoid stupid shit like this. There's people like Vickers who preach the "arbitrary limitation of how much lumens you should have" and I bought into it. I bought a 300 lumen light for my AR over a 600 lumen one, concerned with how I would potentially blind myself then I tried clearing my house with an X300U and another 800 lumen light.

Guess what happened? I saw more, I didn't blind myself and it was more useful than a lower powered light. This myth is an overblown theory craft based assortment of bullshit, next in line to high bore axis and how competition will create training scars.

>Except it does. A light illuminates what you need to see, giving you information. A brighter light will let you see more of what is going on, giving you more information than a lower lumen light

Brighter isn't better. You only need to pass a certain threshold, anymore and you are now blinding yourself which harms your vision.

>You will not curl into a ball crying for mommy when you accidentally flash yourself on a white wall or mirror. If you do happen to flash yourself doing this, who the fuck says you can't turn off your light? Yes, you will blind yourself if you keep staring at it.

All of this reeks of someone without experience. Its not just a mirror you need to worry about. That white hot spot on your white wall will diminish your night vision too much, and then you will not be able to see when you turn your light off, but now your potential threat knows where you are in the house and he can now ambush you.
