That's all I can think of.

Shield needs spike to punch with the edge and saw blade or nail edge to prevent someone from grabbing and pulling you down. The catchers shin guards is a nice touch. I would a four or six inch upward pointing spikes to give kneeing someone a bit more. Needs level III body armor underneath and probably the cut proof sleeve for the right arm.

The stick failed. Choose a hard wood shaft, better make it a flail. Back it up with a Cold Steel battle mace carried on the belt.

Bring friends.. bring a phalanx.

Best way to improve on this is just to not be the only one doing it.

With that out of the way, does anyone know if that's plywood or just a regular piece of wood for the shield, shields have got to be cross laminated otherwise the grain will break the thing apart after the first couple of hits.

Improving the shield would mean adding metal to the edge and/or face to laminate it further, does not have to be thick, just needs to be there to spread the force. Aluminium or thin sheet metal is more than fine.

If it's too heavy or hard to conceal, then making a smaller shield is fine too, bucklers have their purpose and it's not like you're facing off against people with actual weapons here, you just need to stop sticks and fists.

Regarding his weapon, sucks that it failed, but it's a tradeoff.
A long reach is really important, but so to is hitting power and strength. Hardwood if you want to go long, or get an Axe handle otherwise.

Other than that, just think about what's the next easiest part of you to get hurt?
He's got a shield, a helmet and shin guards, pretty good all round, a way to cover his right forearm could very well stop a fracture.
Could be like the bracers or could be some wood secured by elastic.

Fighting can be fun, but broken arms suck.

You can significantly improve the structural integrity of the shield by simply covering it with linen, metal on the rim is there to prevent cuts from splintering the shield and since you're not facing people with axes and swords you need not worry about that. Over all the shield is good, you don't need much more to protect yourself from riot LARPers armed with sticks.
