My grandpa gave me a henry 22 shortly after, so I sold the 10/22 and put it towards a mossberg 500.

If you get the dollary doos do it. They're $500 at buds and have the better bolt knob, muzzle break, pic rail, accustock and williams sights that all put it above the hog hunter.

Also don't let the mags turn you off they're only like $40 if you dig around which is pretty reasonable for a proprietary design.

Currently mine is just irons and a nice Andy's Ching Sling, (the LS-45 was just mounted for giggles)

The bare bones model most similar to this rifle is the model 11 hog hunter which runs similar price. However it doesn't come with, 10rd mag, accu-stock, muzzle brake, adjustable LoP, Williams peep sights, cross hatched bolt knob or a picatinny rail so based on sheer value of all of these goodies alone makes this rifle a steal.

I am in love with this rifle and don't feel the obligation to meet up with all of the "scout rifle" criteria. As a matter of fact the sheer modularity of the savage platform to me would be wasted by merely copying someone else's ideas. I and others see and use this as a good all around gun. Currently only using irons and a Andy's Leather Ching Sling have found it to be quite a satisfying rifle to shoot and to look at.

Tl;dr get it. Its a bolt action with exceptional irons that is worth more than the sum of its parts
