So long story short while disassembling my Springfield xd9mm I shot my self in the thigh. The 124grain hydrashok managed to miss both the artery and bone but possibly hit the nerve. Please realize I have a hole in my leg, I've already best myself up. Keep your negativity to yourself I'm not here looking for sympathy I'm just sharing my experience because not everyone has been shot.
Ask me anything
>>
why wasn't it pointed at your face
>>
>>33205826
sympathy on 4chins. I doubt you even shot your self.
>>
>>33205826
Are you shitting me? You better not report it or you'll contribute to the gun control statistics
Why do you even keep a loaded gun around the house? Use the lock on the front door if you're so paranoid. The noise will give you the warning you need to load the gun.

You must be 18 or older to use this website.
>>
Fuck summer fags already.
I was disassembling while setting in my truck.
Too late was in the ER for like 20 hours before being sent home
>>
>>33205845
Because I'm retarded
>>
>>33205826
pics or it didn't happen
>>
>>33205826
didn't clear your gun, bro? pretty fucking amateur.
>>
>>33206151
I know dude it's fucked up. I've never not checked the chamber before. I was so out of it I had no business handling my gun. Like I said 100% my fault but I'm moving away from striker fired guns.
>>
>>33205826
But anon the XD has a grip safety
Surely you couldn't have shot yourself with such a gun!

Pulling the trigger is necessary to disassemble so in my situation grip safety was moot

Basically yes.

I totally see it! Thanks for the laugh
>>
>>33206249
>summer's already here

Good to hear you lived anon

Any long term problems?
>>
Why the fuck would you point a gun at your thigh and pull the trigger? Also how bad did it hurt? How much tissue damage was there? Do you think 124 grain hydroshock is an effective self defense round?
>>
>>33206433
Probably gonna need a cane for the rest of my life. But other then that I don't think so.
>>
Where did the bullet stop and end up? Clear through? Post the exit wound if so. What else did it hit?

I'm assuming this is fmj range ammo?
>>
>>33206498
Was setting in my truck and didn't take time to move steering wheel out of the way.
At first I didn't feel anything then pain and my leg drew up tight. Crawled into passenger seat and clamped down trying to slow bleeding.
Then it was just immense pain was screaming alot but looking back it was just due to being freaked out. Calmed down and it hurt but didn't need to scream.
Now it's sore but mainly lower leg burns bad due to nerve damage.
>>
>>33206498
Also it's pretty effective I guess but one layer of blue jeans hindered expansion which prolly saved my life
>>
>>33206615
It was through my thigh and into door panel didn't even dent the metal just through the plastic. Don't have good pic of exit wound or I would
>>
>>33206615
No it was 124grain hydrashok. The mixed up posts are due to heavy medication
>>
>>33206666
Nice quads

Now post pics anyway

>>

Why do you think god or whatever's out there, or just plain luck allowed you not to kill yourself from bleeding out? What makes you special? Cause thats seriously fucking stupid.
>>
>>33207173
I don't think god had anything to do with me shooting myself. If he did I don't honestly know why? Unless it was to teach me humility. I am glad to be alive and for that I am grateful.
>>
>>33205826
Glad you're still alive. I'd call you names but I don't think I could say anything you haven't called yourself.

There's both a loaded chamber indicator and a striker status indicator, anon. Use those next time.
>>
>>33206219
>Moving away from striker-fired guns

Don't hate the gun, just take firearms more seriously. You broke two out of the four rules.

You didn't assume the gun was loaded, and you didn't keep it pointed in a safe direction. Every time I have to disassemble my XD, I point it at the ground.
>>
>>33205826
>retard

Glad you're ok, anon.
>>
>>33205826
when did this happen? what did it feel like and does it still hurt
>>
>>33207251
Not OP. While this is true, and the OP almost ended up dead because of it, he is correct in his belief that Glocks and all of their clones are very unforgiving of mistakes in handling compared to other designs. The worst part about this, to me, is how people try and rationalize what was meant to be a cost-cutting measure (building a gun that was as simple as possible while still being reliable) from Glock as being fundamentally more safe than designs that have positive safeties.
>>
>>33206286
the guy in band of brothers did the same thing but died. you lucky you missed the artery
>>
>>33207037
what did your parents say
>>
>>33206006
>>33206094

>doesn't know how to clear or disassemble his own gun
>hurr dumb summerfags

Bit of projecting there, maybe?
>>
>>33207387
It's worrying how many good ol' boys there are around here that have the mindset of "everyone NDs at least once!"
>>
get rid of your gun
>>
>>33207397

Most unsafe thing I've ever done is I almost cased a gun with one in the chamber and no mag.
>>
>>33206666
>didn't even dent the metal

Dude I really do not like what I am hearing. .45 or 10mm seem way more reliable now. That was point blank no expansion.

At the very least I will avoid hydrashok entirely now.
>>
>>33207482
You should avoid Hydrashok because HST is Federal's next iteration of that technology, which is improved and performs better. That, and Lehigh Defense's Extreme Defense solid CNC bullets outperform the HST.
>>
>>33207482
9mm has more muzzle energy than .45 ACP in most cases

Pistol rounds are just anemic.
>>
>>33207482
>>33207570
The 158 grain .357 Magnum was specifically designed to defeat the heavy frames/doors of old school automobiles as well as early bulletproof vests (probably the equivalent of NIJ Level I today). I imagine it would do at least as well in these roles today.
>>
>>33207352
It happened Friday around 4:15. The hole doesn't hurt it's the nerve damage that makes my foot/shin/calf hurt like fuck.
Now if I move or sit on my ass it feels like hell and like someone is digging inside the wound with a knife
>>
>>33208956
fuck the wound hole with your dick
>>
>>33207381
They couldn't believe that I did it. Like all of them thought it was a joke at first. I'm one of the most safety cautious people but I made a mistake this time and paid the price.
>>
>>33207482
DESU I'm surprised it performed this poorly but thank the Lord it did or I wouldn't be here right now.
>>
>>33209003
I honestly cannot understand how you point a weapon at your own body and pull the trigger at the same time. It would have been better for the world had nature taken its course on you and you bled out. Don't reproduce.
>>
>>33205826
At first I was going to laugh at you, but after seeing >>33206249 and >>33207037, instead I'm just going to call you an idiot and hope you learned your lesson. If you want to be a tard about safety next time, make sure you disassemble the gun with the barrel pointing toward your head so you don't hurt the cause.
>>
glad you didn't die to add to anti-gun stats
sad you didn't die because you make us all look bad

why the fuck are you carrying hydrashocks in 2017?
>>
>>33205826
When you did it did you say "I just fucking shot myself"? The answer to this is important.

You met with death and walked away today. That missed your femoral artery by less than inches it looks like. Hope this taught you a valuable lesson, but I'm glad you're okay anon.

Accidents happen, but that's why we have the other guidelines of safety, namely:

Never point the muzzle of a firearm at something you do not intend to destroy
