Does being a police officer really suck that bad?

I guess the hours, work environment and pay are the main complaints but people still sign up to do it?
>>
>>33205624
you're an idiot if you go into law enforcement for the money (gl if thats your answer in an oral board), that being said they get paid very well around here. everything you listed will depend on your location.
>>
>>33205624
There are two main reasons to become a cop. Either you want to make a difference in your community, or you want to feel big and taze people without consequences.
>>
>>33205624
It pays better and has better benefits than comparable jobs.
>>
>>33205624
Enjoy your back injury
>>
My friend just became a sherrifs deputy and he says he enjoys it. We live in a rural area though.
>>
>>33205624
It has advantages. As someone mentioned, yes it is fun to tease people (if they deserve it), and most of us do like to help people. I have a lot of friends I get to work with, I get to be left alone for the most part, and the work day is often just plain weird and varied, I.e. last night I went from seeing a fireman eviscerated in a vehicle homicide to a fire truck taking itself out in some downed power lines. The training opportunities are also great and I have a free gym and range. So it's what you make of it. My city sucks, the department as a whole sucks, and I don't plan on staying in LE forever, but it can be a good career.

Rejects who can't even enter the military or former military welfare queens who got addicted to uncle Sam's teats join the police.
>>
>>33206209

Clearly this person is talking from zero experience. Typical 4chan.
>>
>>33205624
flex your nuts while you're young, then spend the rest of your career sleeping in a courtroom as a bailiff. retire then collect a union pension.

its a fucking gravy job if there ever was one.
>>
Britbongcop here despite not having a gun and feral kids I love the job.

Have specialised now but miss the nights and the camaraderie of being on a shift. It's not for everyone and can be soul destroying dealing with the same old faces day in day out but the one good job or arrest makes up for it.
>>
I know Richmond (CA) PD fags laugh at how they ignore calls intil the emergency is over, hit on HS girls doing homework at Starbucks, and are paid well and have excellent (bankruptcy-causing) retirement. And I'm a city employee paid more per hour but doesn't do all that OT.
>>
>>33206378
>And I'm a city employee
what do you do
>>
I wanted to be a cop when I was a kid, but I realized that I don't have good people skills. I would be one of those asshole cops you'd see on the internet and people would hate cops more because of me.
>>
>>33206388
Utility electronics maintenance
>>
>>33206456
cool, im in piped utilities for a decent sized city.
>>
>>33206209
"its a job filled with people who either were prior military or not" You sound like a fucking idiot
>>
>>33206795
He is. Most places require a degree at least. Also we have some former force recon guys in my department, last I checked those guys aren't known for being the knuckleheads of the marines
>>
>>33206499
"piped utilities"

why does this sound like a fancy way of saying you're a prostitute or porn star?
>>
>>33206847
water and wastewater (sewer)
>>
>>33205624
Where I'm from police make $34 an hour starting out, work 10 hours a day (4 on, 4 off), get triple overtime, and get a fuckton of good benefits (pension, dental and healthcare, $300 annual boot budget, etc.)

All in all it's a pretty decent upper middle class job if you have the patience for it.
>>
>>33205624
Is becoming a police officer worth it for the experience?
>>
>>33207009
experience for what
>>
>>33207017
The experience of being a police officer and being able to slap that on your resume.
>>
>>33207030
>being able to slap that on your resume.
for what other job?
>>
>>33207048
Armed Security, Executive Protection, A Comfy Security Guard job maybe.
>>
>>33205624
Things I've learned from being a cop so far...
>most of your calls are over stupid shit
>white people complain about everything
>hispanics will always forget how to speak english
>ems and fire dept need to carry guns
>black cops scare asians
>female cops are pretty much useless
>your dispatchers hate you. Always
>you're going to go to court alot on your days off.
And
>vanity plate=ass goblin
>>
>>33207056
maybe for executive protection if you make connections throughout your career but you will need 10+ years experience. 99% of armed security jobs are shit.
>>
>>33207056
Those jobs suck
>>
>>33207030
If you want to be a fed or something or get into private security services then it's not a bad idea. Make sure you stay networked of course
>>
>>33205624
It doesn't. They keep niggers in check
>>
I imagine LE is a good stepping stone for getting into private security, and those jobs can get very cushy.
>>
>>33206814
>Most places require a degree at least.

No, most places don't. However the larger departments or departments who can be more picky and have larger budgets sometimes do require degrees.

In most places you just have to be 19 years of age, be able to legally own a firearm, be able to make it through either the agency's academy or a local college academy, and then make it through the hiring process.
>>
>>33208242
you are wrong on pretty much every count.

LEOs in my city make over $65k after their first year, can retire with like 95% income the rest of their lives after 30 years, and it is almost one of the safest cities in the US for LEOs going by statistics. That's why I'm trying to become one.
