Why don't tanks use small detachable recon drones?
Relax Command & Conquer Generals.

It has been in the drawing boards for quite some time. Will it ever be implemented into an AFV, that's an other question...

because unlike you imagine things, tanks do not go into battlefield alone. There has to be command and control element who is also in task of recon. There is infantry which acts as a support for tanks and who also have eyes of their own and operate small UAVs of their own. Big drones are in the air as soon as you get air superiority going on and they will be there 24/7. It is not like a tank decides fuck it boiz, going to push forward this blind conrer and go up that street when nobody is watching, you know, my threads are getting cold...

infantry cannot keep up with tanks

The 1920s called, said Guderian had some amazing ideas about motorised and mechanized infantry.
>>33205511
Just have them ride on the tanks duh
>>33205511
That's what APC's are for friendo

>mechanized infantry

hehehe
OP here I just wanted to add that the drones would be small quad copters that would hook up to the top of the tank (or IFV) to look inside buildimgs and such

Just watch with IR from distance and then lob some HE in.
but in warfare picrelated, drones are useful. and they use them right now.
We're working on it.
The US army is supposedly going to test an Abrams modified with an autoloader and the loaders position converted to a UAV/UGV operating station some time this year.
