Some of the parts need replacing with time since they're rubber. The reason most people say it's shit is because it's heavy, it's a pain to clean and operate, parts are nearly impossible to come by aside from a few that some guys are making to order now, and it's on the heavy side.
The whole ammo trouble is because semi-auto is designed to work only off full power loads. It works fine in semi and that's the whole reason it's an option in the first place.

I had a loaner of one from an uncle years ago now and they're a heavy old lump when full of shells. You will need to be very meticulous with the gas system as its a common wear area, clean it out and hope none of it goes to shit because it might be a bit of a cunt to find (cheap) spares for.

Checked. Also correct. You need about 40$ in parts to make it safe to fire at all, not including the safety conversion. Spas12project has everything you'll ever need to know.
