It really does though.

At least in the US army, if you aren't infantry typical marksman skill is garbage. Gun enthusiasts in the army means they shoot in their free time and usually care about individual skills and squad based tactics rather than doing only their applied mos.
I never noticed the difference until I went from a combat mos to supporting a bunch of pogs.

Armourer not infantry, this body blessed by god himself was inter corps cross country champion. Yes that's right motherfucker 6'2" brickhouse could run marathons before your mother could get up to wipe your arse in the morning. My calves were rocks harder then your cock has ever been. I had to turn down girls because i was too busy fingerbanging a rifle barrel.

No but seriously my body was desired.

>>33203455
Armouries are stocked full of stuff, whenever a stash gets cleared it goes straight to the armoury first.

We had the very original (pre - A1) for our Banner tour. The SLRs it replaced were knackered after decades of abuse so it was a welcome change. Until they promptly broke, which caused a lot of dramas.

As far as I know, there were two distinct of the rifle before the A2 was adopted. The original was sent out very late 1986, we had ours for 1987. This was then modified to put a guard over the mag release by units (our armourer did it within about 2 months to every weapon) and then these were made permanent. I believe between that time and Granby something like 80 modifications were made to the weapon to make it "A1", which was then used until the end of the 1990s when A2 was adopted.

Being in the COP we were given M16 in addition to the issued SA80 for 87/88, which had problems all of its own (it was nowhere near as good for hitting locals over the head with). The COP had a rabble of weapons, SLR, SA80, M16, FN-FNC, G3 etc etc.

A2 was miles better but it couldn't shake the reputation of the pre-A1 weapon, which had genuinely dangerous issues. A1 was a load of fixes which were complained about by the RM on Granby because they had shit drills and were desperate to try and be as distinct from the rest of HM Forces as possible.
>>
>>33204261
It literally isn't
>>
>>33204272
USMC on a Belize visit in the mid 90s were convinced that it was made of melted down toys and would break if you looked at it funny. They were livid about it on the point of arrival, which was bizarre. Every conversation would shift to the weapon. I'm not surprised in the slightest that 2 decades later the same fuckwits are on the internet writing paragraphs about their deep, deep hatred of another countries bang stick.

They proved their inherent shitness by moving around the course like old people fuck, coming rank bottom (behind a Panamanian reserve unit) on the exercise and leaving in a huff. A section even got lost, and whoever leads a USMC section (probably a Major General or something) fired a flare into the mouth of a cave in a blind panic.

Even if it was a shit weapon at least the blokes using it weren't.
>>
>>33204318

Different nations have tested it among like a dozen assault rifles, never making it even into the shortlist.

Also, elite units went with C8s.
>>

>Also, elite units went with C8s.
The Royal Marines, Paras, etc all use the SA80 though.
>>
>>33204894

>Elite units went with the C8

For specialised applications or where there is a high chance of them operating alongside/within other NATO (specifically US) units.

>Tested it against other weapons systems

Not sure if the A2 was ever offered for export, so I don't think full international trials ever took place. Production lines had closed down by the time A2 was in service.
>>
>>33204584
Their obsession has continued, to the point where there are thousands of threads across the internet.
>>
>>33204894
When will this meme end?

>According to the IHS Janes article, the L119 was adopted by 43 Commando due to its "reduced ricochet, limited collateral damage" features. This may be a reference to the L119 carbine's ability to reliably cycle special low-velocity, frangible 5.56x45 mm ammunition.
>This requirement is likely due to 43 Commando's specialist role, which includes fielding recapture tactics teams and specialist ship boarding teams, both of which operate in a CQB environment.
