If i remember correctly some Brazilian instructors teach the French instructors at CEFE in French Guyana who in turn teach the rest of the world jungle training including Americans.
>>
When Americans want jungle training, they tend to do it in SE Asia, so Id say the flips or gooks are probably better.
What have the Brazilians even done in the jungle since that joint thing with the Colombians in the 90s?
>>
>>33196087
Yes, our jungle training is the best, well, we have the fucking amazonic florest in our country, its our obligation to have the best jungle training.
>>
>>33196126
Haha, don try, faggot, the best jungle training is brazilian.
>>
>>33195794
I think it's the best in the world

Aren't the Australians really good at it?

It seems like they end up getting involved in a jungle shithole every generation or so.

It's more likely the French show up out of morbid interest, in the same way you would look out of your window at the retarded kid attempting to rewire his own house.
>>
>>33196171
They may be good, but the brazilian training in jungle is widely accepted as the best.
>>
>>33196171
One of the more vocal staff officers in Malaya pointed out to a Gurkha officer that Australian farm boys and English conscripts were better at jungle warfare than the Gurkhas despite having much less formal training into it, which was certainly the assessment made by the rest of us. I doubt that the Brazilians are the best, but they certainly couldn't be any worse than RGR. Complete shower.
>>
>>33196183
Out of curiosity, what do you do to get really good at jungle fighting? I'm thinking it's

>never make any noise because visibility is essentially zero and if you're quiet enough you can creep up on them
>wash yourself in the river every chance you get so your smell doesn't give you away
>permethrin everywhere
>short shorts
>never drink the water in rivers, but drink a shitload of water so you don't black out
>if you see a log covered in water, there is a reasonable chance that it will tear you in half if you get near it
>>
>>33195794
you can't even get your image right, how the fuck can you guys jungle train?

Based on what? You might have been in the 60-70s, but an untested muscle soon wastes. Look at what happened to the Israelis, they bought their own meme that they were the greatest tankers even though all their experienced tankers had retired after the 82-85 war, thus they got embarrassed in 2004. Dont end up like them Pedro.
>>
>>33196235

Yeah i know foreign military officers do your CIGS course so they can train their own.

This video shows that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWy0AGm78pM (the US marine officer gave up)

Legionnaires are allowed to go down and do the course and wear the qualification badge they earn while stationed in French Guyana and it's meant to be a very hard badge to earn and that's coming from legionnaires.
>>
>>33196241
Training means nothing if you're green, your command structure are green and the people who are training you are green.
>>
>>33196258
There is always skirmishes in the Amazon, be it loggers, tribal, narco or guerillas.

They're far from green.
>>
It's pretty well known how hard and expertises the Brazilians are at Jungle training. Anyone who has served in any military which has done an intensive jungle course will know that.

They're are credited to that within the military worldwide.

They literally live in the jungle, year round.

It's literally the only thing Brazilians can do right.

Yeah, i can be proud of it, the thing is that basically serving the army here is just sitting all day, there is nothing to do, no action, saddens me.

Guerrilas? There is ppl trying to invade amazon?
>>
>>33196212
I'm not the Brazilian, obviously, but in the 1960s the British military maintained 2 jungle warfare schools on a permanent basis and used NZAUS facilities when needed - which itself led to a lot of the "British forces in Vietnam" rumours. The common syllabus was the same at each. These schools were Kota Tinggi (PULADA) in Malaya and one in British Honduras - now known as Belize. They were excellent, really, in that they drew on expertise from retired and current servicemen. Units rotating through Borneo in the 60s were trained by a mix of the previous battalion, specialist officers, Malaya/WW2 hands and dedicated permanent staff.

Those things you outlined are surface level and can be taught in an afternoon. Actually teaching formed units to fight in the jungle can only be done with the above experience, and it's easily lost over the years. Any combat where the weather and climate dictates pace of operations to such an extent requires first hand experience, and that's won through hard and unpleasant fighting. I'm glad to hear that the British Army has retained training units in Belize and sends battalions out there.

The Americans run one in Hawaii which is very good. The Foreign Legion outfit in French Guiana is meant to be premier, too.

>>33196328
There's like a new commie group that pops up every year in that area (Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela) that just run around the jungle shooting people.

FARC only stopped operating like a few years ago.

Not exactly. CEFE instructors do follow other South-American jungle courses, just like instructors/trainees from those nation train at the CEFE.
Obviously there is a healthy lot of dick-waving about who's got the harshest course going on.

This is exactly as retarded as it sounds, since at some point you're here to, you know, instruct people, not just break them down into little leishmania-riddled pieces.

At the very least I can bear witness to the quality of the CEFE training, which is both harsh and instructive.
>>
Why are South Americans allowed to be on the internet? t. Sensible Human Bean
>>
>>33196294
That's all well and good, but the reality often outruns the narrative.

Our 4 man patrols in Borneo were born out of necessity for that particular confrontation, with its own considerations and political realities. We were very, very good at doing what we did but I'd doubt what we learned would have been much use to anyone unless they planned on fighting exactly the same war we just had. The sort of experience you need can only really be acquired over a long, gradual and steady commitment. Malaya was a 12 year operation and provided five years of good instruction. Likewise, a lot of the things that the US military learned in Vietnam were put to use in the US Army School of the Americas. You can capitalise on that experience and make good of it.

What you can't do is assume that just because you were good at something, then used those men to teach it to the next war or operation, is that the process will continue. Out of the hundreds of thousands of men that served in Malaya over the years, we probably got less than a hundred world class jungle warfare instructors. That return rate is fine when you have hundreds of thousands of men, but when you've got 650 guys going through a rotation it's meaningless.

What I'm driving at here is that just because the Brazilians excel at set piece and demonstration, doesn't mean their institutions have the opportunity to put it to work and make the proper adjustments that then gives you actual valuable expertise.

>>
>>33196708
If you can make it into the French Foreign Legion, they'll probably let you shoot people.
>>
>>33196571
You'd be surprised. Long, narrow patrols through areas using small "bricks" of men may only be in earshot of the moving/searching enemy for a few hundred yards. They'll then go f

The most effective of patrols in Borneo actually went into Indonesia and hit the enemy before they could launch their guerilla campaigns. The enemy, far from being masters of jungle warfare themselves, were often more than eager to identify themselves and were often smoking, arguing, losing each other in the jungle and so on. Static British emplacements in small population centres were excellent sources of observation and intelligence.

For me, the hardest thing was the time on/time off arrangement and the sheer amount of weight I lost. After the British government authorised cross border operations into Indonesia to be made by the resident Infantry, not just the SAS, the number of operations increased and so did the intensity. After every patrol (which could last three weeks) there was a week to refit and rest. Then it was back to patrol. Three patrols and then your battalion was replaced in that sector, aside from the SAS men and some of the staff who were a permanent fixture. I'd have gone mad if I wasn't in good company.
>>
>>33196810
*they'll then go further into enemy territory and mount the ambushes, very rarely fighting along the border itself as the Indonesians had practiced fighting along the border conventionally.
>>
>>33196810
