The Norden Bombsight is a useless invention made to appease the American public who had concerns for conducting a "moral" war.
>Made to reduce collateral damage
>Bomber crews would just drop their payloads as soon as they get into the mission area without even aiming when spooked by fighters or flak.
>Bombers usually fly in formations of hundreds, meaning no accountability for whose bombs hit what.

Counter-point: why waste bombs when you have the option to attempt to aim them at more useful targets?

>bomber crews would just drop their payload as soon as they got spooked
I actually believe it. I'm sure they thought if they lose all that weight they could get the hell outta there before being shot down
>>33194605
With the attrition rate for bomber crews, I can't really blame them.
>>33194593
right in the pickle barrel, eh Dennis?
It wasn't about 'moral war', it was about efficiency. They were trying to squeeze every extra ounce of tonnage out of those bombers, since logistics on that scale are fucking quantum physics.

It was made to more accurately hit your intended targets. When you're systematically firebombing cities into non-existence, collateral damage isn't one of your priorities. Stop being a faggot OP.
We had a system inside our vehicles that allowed the occupants to see, in theory, where a shot had come from. There were lights around the inside and the area in which they flashed showed the direction of the shot.
Naturally, it didn't work well at all. Sound idea but in practice it never worked properly and would go off randomly.. Other countermeasures and electronic aids were a lot more effective and helpful.

The Norden wasn't even revealed to the public till the end of the war, so you're a fucking liar about everything you wrote.

Early in the bombing campaign, probably true. But the advent of long ranged escort fighters changed that.
>>Bombers usually fly in formations of hundreds, meaning no accountability for whose bombs hit what.
Wrong. They send recon planes after bombing runs to evaluate the damage. If it wasn't accurate, the bomber boys get sent again later.
The Brits adopted carpet bombing because they don't have the industrial power of the US to replace downed bombers. Even then, they developed the Pathfinders and radio navigation aids to increase night bombing accuracy.

All bomber crews should have been imprisonned for war crimes
Probably most fighters too
