Can /k/ recommend a good budget gun?

I'm not dead-set on a Taurus, just using it as an example.

What is your budget like? What do you plan on using it for?

Hi-point guns get shit on by gun snobs, but they're actually pretty decent for the price. You can find them brand new for about $150-$200 or used closer to $100 which isn't a bad deal for a semi-auto pistol. The down sides are that they're bulky and heavy and low capacity for a gun of its size and takedown is a PITA. Last round tends to hang up, but that's fairly easy to remedy with some kitchen table gunsmithing.

If you're willing to spend about $100 more, you can definitely get some much better -- albeit used -- guns that are just all-around better than a Hi-Point.

You can get a Canik TP9 for under $300, they're great for the price.

Tanfoglio pistols are alright, the steel framed ones are better than the polymer frames, and I believe the 9mm ones take CZ mags.

Generally goes for about $300, but sometimes less.

Ignition is inherently less reliable, as is feeding, and while .22LR is pretty meek from a pistol barrel, it actually isn't shabby from a rifle, especially if you consider the low recoil and how easy followup shots are. Don't be trifling with no hollowpoints for .22 though, they just don't make a difference when it comes to people, use high velocity FMJ if you can, you're gonna need all the penetration you can get.

It's far from ideal, but several shots to the torso can absolutely ruin someone's day, and failing that, a magdump. Of course, if they're high on like PCP, they might not even take notice and you'll have to wait for him to bleed out, but a machete or cattleprod as backup might hold him off. Or maybe a trident.

Truthfully this, OP.

The best firearm warrenty in the business coupled with an insanely low price means a good gat at low price.

Anything more expensive isn't wort it, spending $250 on a Taurus when you could save to 300 for a Mak or other quality handgun makes no sense.

Spending 150 on one of these, however, is a genius idea.

The ruger sr9e is pretty nice for a budget doublestack. A few more bucks and you can get the regular sr9 or the sr9c. If you want a singlestack, first gen LCPs and LC9s can be had for a had for $225 give or take

You can also get used rugers suuuuper cheap, a used p89 or whatever you can find for <$200, they look like crap but they function. Old ruger police/security .357/.38s can be had cheap as well

You can buy the hipoint meme, just make sure you use good quality hot ammo or else you can have problems with them. People buy a cheap shit gun and run cheap shit ammo through it and wonder why it sucks.. if you get decent ammo for them or +p they function pretty well

Stay the hell away from anything Jennings, Jimenez, Raven, or any other nig tier saturday night specials

Makarovs can be had for cheap, they are okay. Tokarevs even cheaper, but they are far from drop safe and don't make good carry guns. Just keep in mind with either of those two options ammo may or may not be harder to find than say 9mm or .380

I'd stay away from taurus. Anything you buy from them, for a few more dollars you can get something better that is better made and doesn't have shit qc and customer service

Used glocks, police trade-ins especially can be had for cheap. And they have the benefit of only being shot once in a while when they have to qualify or whatever

There is two different links. I accidentally didn't space.

These are both great guns that are safe, reliable, and accurate. Good for a first pistol and nobody can beat they price point. They are exact clones of the cz75 legendary pistol.

This. Bretty good for $200.
They had a special for a $50 rebate plus one year NRA membership for a while.
Idk if it's still going on.
>>
Tanfoglio EAA Witness or Canik TP9V2. Also, don't let the Turkey terrorist thing put you off. The US has given Turkey millions and millions of dollars and protection while they did what they did. You spending a couple hundred dollars that MIGHT end up with the Turkish government is less than a drop in the bucket.

Canik TP9sf "special forces" handgun on aimsurplus for $370 new.

I'm surprised I don't see Canik pistols here more...

Well I guess copper washed, or whatever. Though I wonder if anyone has ever made .22LR with a proper copper jacket? I'm guessing it wouldn't be the average cheap plinking ammo.

For a NATO country duty gun, the TP9 is a great deal.
If you're of legal age to buy a handgun and pay taxes in the US you've been supporting terrorists for three years, might as well get a return on investment. The TP9 is a good first handgun.
>>
>>33202478
+1 on the Caniks
>>
>>33198266
Why are they just giving them away? For some reason, it's made me weary of buying them, like they're going for under $400 in some places.
>>
>>33202961
Better a cheapo than nothing. Plus, I mean, there's no point in reselling it, so you can keep it around forever in your safe. Once you've bought better stuff in the future, you can hand it over to nogunz buddies when you go shooting. And if SHTF, well, you'll have a spare laying around.

Hi point gets shit on a lot, but they make the cheapest handgun around. They're clearly not trying to woo you with features and quality. It goes bang when it's supposed to, and puts holes in shit just like any other handgun.

If I was broke, I'd buy one just to hold me over until I had more money.

because FNH is used to having it's way with mil sales, then they made this whole series of guns and did exactly jack shit to advertise, here they are 3 years later trying to catalyse interest.
