The B-17’s first combat mission was carried out on 8 July 1941 and was a high altitude daylight raid on the German naval base at Wilhelmshaven. A BAR, while a reasonably powerful weapon, only had a 20 round magazine and not the highest rate of fire. You didn't kill four guys by waving it around like a Hollywood bullet hose. Finally, if you're on your own and walk right into four prepared and armed soldiers taking cover in a structure, you're done. They will light you right the fuck up.
