Russian capture $550 out the door

The other is the Frankenstein Mauser I've posted in the past. Technically $500 but they may go down more if I keep waiting and nobody touches it or if I buy something else with it.

The problem is one is nice mechanically with an absolute ass stock, the other is kind of crap mechanically but the stock is nice, even if its refinished.

Essentially I need to be smart and not impulse buy.

everything I was seeing put that at the high end for a Russian capture. Did they go up in price recently?

This one has been counterbored so I assumed that lowered the value. The stock also has a few fairly significant chips. It looks like somebody fought a gator with it and resorted to multiple buttstrokes halfway through.
>>
>>33186087
It's about $50 more than most of Russian captures I see these days, and that's not counting things like shipping or transfer or whatever. Doesn't look too bad either from your pictures.

Im going to the range to shoot, should I just ammo dump it or is it worth saving for another use like, say, hunting?
>>
Somebody give me guidance.
I have 2 M39 nuggets

>a 1944 B-Barrel. They were assembled post-war with left over barrels from a Belgian contract, unissued and pristine, and they stand out very obviously to anybody who knows the Finn rifles, since the bluing is plum color.
>a 1942 VKT, with very good bore and otherwise good to average stock and bluing. The only special thing about it, is that it's on an 1896 Izhevsk receiver.

I also have a PE scope and Hex mount, and I'm sitting on the fence about scoping one of these rifles to make a replica of the ~200 M39s the Finns scoped with captured PEs

Do I scope out the post-war made B-barrel, even though it's blatantly obvious to anybody who knows anything about M39s that it's a "fake"

Or do I scope out the wartime VKT rifle, and put holes into the precious Pre-1899 Receiver, but create something that's similar enough to a real Finn M39 SOV that you'd need a real expert to differentiate it?
>>

>>
>>33186367
for the love of God don't carve up that wartime receiver. If you have to modify one, do it to the rifle made after the war, although I'm pretty sure even with that one it will hurt the value.
>>
>>33186367
also isn't kaptabilly trying to sell a rifle that's already set up like this?
>>
>>33186386
what are those?
>>
>>33186389
That's where I'm hung up though.
These rifles are keepers, I'm not getting rid of them any time soon, so resale value doesn't concern me.

Historical accuracy kind of does, though - which is why I'm not feeling scoping out the obviously post-war rifle - at that point, I might as well get a commercial scope for it, it's a historical abortion anyway.
But even then, it feels evil to drill and tap into an 1896 receiver on a rifle that saw war, even if the end product is extremely authentic.

>>33186397
No idea who that is.
>>
>>33186451
it would still be damaging a historical piece with something it didn't come with. If it was a temporary thing that's one thing but this involves drilling. Don't do it. You know it to be wrong.

Also kaptabilly is the namefag that started the thread, he was trying to sell a Finn rifle already set up exactly like what you're doing if I remember right.

K31s are almost always matching, that doesn't really affect their value.

That said they usually start at $500 these days. If you like them, that's definitely a good price.

Not really a good indication of actual price, but last year I got one for $35 from a guy at a flea market who didn't know what it was. After a new safety and firing pin it worked fine. I love the thing, not nearly as hard to get ammo as a type 38.

American military milsurps fetch a premium in the US for obvious reasons (i.e. Americans like American memorabilia). I know a gun shop locally (Northern California) that just bought half a dozen Garands off a CMP chapter that was closing, and they're asking $1000-1200 apiece.

Now, that may all change if the rumors about the stockpile in Korea end up being true. I'd hold out and see what happens with that. If it all pans out, we could see a bubble where Garands get cheap for a while.

ugh you had to lead off with that? now im sad.

on the gun front it seems my next two purchases are lined up

1884 trapdoor springfield, NIB condition - I will be its 3rd owner, $1200

S&W model 17, .22lr revolver with walnut/velvet display case - heavily used - I dont even want it.....but ~10 years ago the guy sold me the S&W mod 29 .44 mag that was the companion gun in that same walnut box and ive been trying ever since to reunite the two. $450
>pic related

aside from that, uncle sam reamed me for almost $5k on taxes (and no i dont take deductions, so fuggg) so Im pretty much on a $300 spending limit until the fall --- i think im going to try to save for the year and buy myself something cool for Xmas.

on a side note, rock island had a gunsmith build baby luger in .32 acp sell for only $4k. I was so upset I gained about 5 pounds eating my pain away.

Thinking about buying a Mosin. I see one for $229 at an online surplus dealer. It's not a great price but I feel like it's going to be the best I'll ever be able to get one for.

The one problem is I live in a city and I probably won't be able to shoot it for years.

I really want a mosin though. I grew up on the early Call of Duty games and it was always my favorite gun.

How soon should I bee looking to buy one? Probably going to get a .22 first, so I have something I can shoot all the time, even when I'm broke as a joke.

Yeah but it's not easy without pictures. MAC is Chatellerault, and many of these were rebarrelled in the interwar years. It might have been purposely made as a M16, or it might be a conversion of an older 1890 or 1892 or something.
>>
>>33195066
It's cheaper than I've seen anywhere else. But if you're interested I'm always willing to haggle or trade. I'm just getting rid of it because I don't shoot surplus ammo anymore, not because I need money.

You run a couple patches down the bore to soak up what gravity did not work its magic on. This is why boiling water works best because it is essentially self-cleaning by evaporation.

not from the first bend, but repeatedly bending something back and forth will break it, everyone knows that. Plus this was a full retard bend on the serial number and everything. They bent it down 90 and backwards 45.

Final answer, I wanted to collect WWII guns mainly so I wasn't super interested in it.

If you guys want it, it's in a gun store in Mayfield KY, I'll look up the name of it when I get off work.

Has there ever been a Mauser chambered in 7.62x54mmR? I was checking out a few at my LGS and it was listed in that caliber. I believe it was a South American contract (Argentina/Venezuela/Chile).

A .303 Mosin would be an oddity but not unheard of. Likely mislabbled but a hom edone rechambering is possible.
Britain also supplied Russia with SMLEs and ammo at one point. The Russians converted a number of these and other rifles to use either cartridge. The body of the 303 would blow out and the neck/shoulder of the x54r would blow out when fired in the hybrid chamber.

new to milsurp some questions:

how do you guys make sure your rifle bores aren't rusting? I live in the PNW where rain is ridiculously common. do I just shine a light and look for dark spots?

what is best for rust removal of a rifle bore? ballistol and some copper wool shoved down the barrel? then some patches of hopes oil for cleanup?

If you leave your rifle in an air conditioned house and not by the bathroom, basement, garage or attic, the rifle will be fine. The air conditioning does a really good job at keeping the humidity and temperature right (50% and 70).

They have a pristine, near unfired/mint 7mm Chilean/Venezuelan Mauser up for sale. Unfortunately, it's a consignment item and the owner wants $1,100 for it.

>>33199039
Yeah, it is. They keep their milsurp and consignment items in a backroom away from the main retail area where you'd find the modern stuff.

I was browsing around this store near me that sells mostly broken surplus shit(not military, just iffy quality toys, food, clothes, appliances, etc.) And was surprised to find that they had some milsurp hidden among the clothes racks. Got this Slovak BDU jacket for just $9 and a folding shovel among some Czech mag pouches for $12. Anyone know what kind of shovel this is? For all I know it could be some pot metal crap made by an American company but everything around it seemed to be genuine milsurp.

You''re better off asking the camo milsurp bread. Shovel looks too new though, probably a chink repro

I still have a little stash of ammo for when I really want to shoot it for a special occasion. Which means I never shoot it lol.

If you do get one and want to reload, reload with hard primers so you don't have slam fires.

Reload.

Is $850 a fair price for an all matching near perfect BYF 44 P38?
