But the Marines straight up told me they don't take people who took ADHD meds, the Navy never approved my waiver, and the Army just... stopped contacting me after a while. Also the military doesn't change that fast, it's the biggest bureaucracy in the world and the president doesn't really have much direct impact on recruiting drives or branch standards. I've just wanted to serve in the military my whole life. Most of my family has been military, and I want to serve too. I suppose it's about the adventure, too, and I guess I don't want to be stuck behind a desk or working retail. Honestly I chose the NG just to get my foot in the door with the military, and its the closest recruiter in another state to me (I live like, 15 minutes from the border).

That's bullshit. Like most officers, medical personnel comes from the regular forces.
They are big on giving you mints as a remedy no matter what your problem is, but a sick/injured soldier costs a lot and doesn't do much, so they are gonna heal the shit out of you since they don't bother with stupid things like consent or side effects.
I'll always remember that one time where the doc told me with a straight face "This injection isn't mandatory. However if you refuse you'll be fired immediately"

They tend to work slower than civilians on mundane stuff like routine examinations since they have no one to watch them (joint exercises with reservists are always a lot of fun when you compare their output), but both follow the same courses and are usually very competent.
