I think it's kind of cool that swords were used quite often in China during WW2.

Of course, that's because they had trouble arming their troops with guns.

Well Considering the last sword thread lasted like 6 1/2 days, and was pretty positive, yeah I think /k/ likes swords.

And I would hope a lot of /k/ knows enough about swords to notice your Pic Related is a Cold Steel, and Cold Steel, for the most part in sword terms, is shit tier.

>>33175071
lol good one friend.
>>
>>33175836
Congrats, I've not heard much about their sharp swords, I assume they are pretty good considering their practice swords.

I'm curious, whats the waiting period like for Regenyei? At lest what they say. There's nothing worse than waiting forever for a sword, my Valiant Armoury took 9 1/2 weeks (better than the predicted 12), I can only imagine waiting 9 months for a Albion, or years for an Angus Trim.

There is a good chance that daggers killed more men in armor than swords, of course maces and hammers probably killed the most, at lest with melee weapons.

A lot of treatises depict armor&sword vs. armor&sword battles ending with wrestling and ultimately a dagger (lot of times with a triangular blade) being thrust though gaps as the killing blow.

That's beautiful, that's even prettier than the Albion kriegsmesser. It looks really small though from this perspective... is it a miniature?

Is it yours?

What's the distal taper like on it? I always heard that lutel had some issues with it
>>
>>33180076
It's quite nice, a gradual taper the whole length. It's what I'd expect of a long single edge blade.
>>
>>33180064
I've been looking at the site, it almost seems too good to be true, it looks like amazing quality for that price. I'm not familiar with the steel, but I'll read into that more, literally the only slight minor issue I see is the 48-50hrc maybe a bit soft. Also shipping costs to America maybe a bit high. But idk what country they are based out of.

How long was the wait for yours? The site says 4-6 months.

I've been looking for a good kriegsmesser for a while, and nothing in the sub $500 range (sub $1,000 range even) was really standing out to me, but this looks fantastic.

Most swords run around that RC. Lutel's are known to be pretty good. Price is more a factor of east euro wages than lack of quality.

most messers were a lot smaller/more gracile than the replicas out there.

Lutel's one has a decent hilt, but the end-cap is a mess. In fact, most messers didnt have end caps or pommels. here's one that is right.

They're based out of the Czech Republic. The shipping has been consistently right under $100 for both orders I've had from them for both my Kriegsmesser and Bastard Sword+Dagger orders.

The wait from order placed to doorstep was 6 months for my Kriegsmesser, and 9 for the sword and dagger. I believe the extra weight was due to the fact I ordered a couple pieces mixed with their currently huge backlist.

They're a relatively tiny shop for how many orders they get from all over Europe and here, so you're mostly on the waitlist for that time.

I love mine. It came with a good edge when I asked for sharpening from them, and it only needed a bit of honing to be razor sharp. I would recommend them to anyone. They're so nice for what you pay in my opinion.

As for the softness, I don't really have a worthy comparison, (only other experience with Hanwei stuff and windlass pieces which I consider quite inferior) but it holds an edge well while cutting.

And ins and outs you think a first time buyer from them should know?

Thank you very much for this, I'm strongly considering giving them a shot next time I'm in the market for a sword. I'm eyeing up the Kriegsmesser, War Hammer (17011), and Two-handed sword (16009). And maybe their Rapiers since it's really hard to find good sharp Rapiers now a days for under $1000, but even still these are a bit out of my price range. My almost $700 (after shipping) VA Rhinelander was really pushing my budget.

>>33180169
Well I saw the dimensions on the site, like 33" blade, that's historically accurate for some finds. I was just saying from that pic it looked like it could have been like a really fine novelty letter opener. And I'm willing to overlook flaws like that for the price.

Duh. Its late. my brain's not working.

Blade tapers that are too small, I should've said - blades that only go from say, 3/16ths to 1/8th, instead of 1/4 to 1/16th of an inch.

Oh, btw. They're pretty cool about doing a little bit of customization. They'll do things like blades, grips, pommels, and guards from different listings on your order if you specify. On my dagger, they did it with a more defined profile taper at no extra cost when I asked and gave an example.

Where have you been? I wish you were on a sword thread earlier.

Man that is a huge counter top... I can't find I big enough place to take pics of my swords like that, so it's always the floor or bed or some tree.

Yeah I'm going to have to try them out, and I've already read about the whole fake site and real site thing. I'll start saving for the Kriegsmesser. The exact configuration I want comes to just under $400 and I'm guessing shipping could bring it up to $500. Guess I'll have to see how much my tax return is this year. Maybe I'll have that money set aside by the middle of summer, and I'll get it around Christmas.

I've just been shy is all. I post my kriegsmesser picture every once in a while on here.

They're great pieces, and I also can't wait to get one of their war-hammers. The worst part with dealing with them is the wait.

It's so fucking worth though. I just wear them around all day when they show up, and am all the more attached.

Because sometimes you're carrying a sword, and a guy in armor shows up and tries to rob you

You can either
>Cut his armor ineffectively
>Complain out loud and hope he gives you a hammer
>Go to a grapple and stab gaps (good idea)
>Turn your sword into a mace/hammer and bash his head in (also good idea)

There's a reason that the sword was the best side arm a person could possibly carry

To be quite honest I'm a bit of a sperg myself, but thanks to HEMA I have met a whole bunch of really interesting and intelligent people. Obviously a Chad would feel inadequate in a gym full of history nerds and overall intelligent people that can also probably hand his ass to him, but that doesn't mean the hobby is exclusive, it means that Chad is insecure.
I get where you're coming from, there definitely are a lot of keyboard warriors in the community, but I've seen them exclusively online, and maybe once or twice in real life, which leads me to believe they're not even a part of the "actual" community that practices HEMA.

Pelican 1750.jpg

Say anyone have much experience with hard sword/large-enough-rifle cases?

I'm thinking of getting a large case to help make transporting a few swords more easy, not having to wrap them in blankets to conceal them in the back of my car (I have a station wagon).

I'm looking at the Pelican 1750, it seems large enough to carry my long sword and a Katana. But it's 50.5 inches long, long enough for everything I currently own, but I could see myself getting larger than that.

There is the Pelican im3410, it's plenty long at 55ish, but at 10" wide, it may not fit the cross guard of a sword that long.

Any other suggestions? Other brands?

The school where I train we actually do have baton practice combined with combatives for self defense and as a base for the mechanics in grappling.
The master describes it quite elegantly actually. He describes melee combat as a flower, of which the root is the fist, the baton (or simply a stick) is the stem, and all other long weapons are petals.

Why though, it's not like people suddenly discover to use short sticks to defend themselves?
Most of the time they aren't openly carried, which was a big if not a defining trait of civilian sword carry, the need to affirm yourself as a gentleman or at least a man of honor. The context of sword carrying is completely lost to us.

Open carried pistol are closer to what swords were than telescopic things, and not because "muh_sidearm".

Sort of.

The whole "learn how to use a sword!" does kind of attract the kind of RPG nerd and there's some crossover with re-enactment and LARPing. I've met some incredibly sperg-y people who were amazing fencers.

I don't think the "Chad gets intimidated from nerds who can kick his ass" claim is entirely accurate, since a Chad who's interested in taking it up tends to have some inkling of nerd hobbies. My HEMA coach is an MMA coach, myself and a few other fencers in my club come from MMA/other martial art background. Not everybody is some overweight autist who is a master with a sword but can't run a mile.
