What are the justifications for owning an Assault Rifle? Debating with friend who thinks they should be banned
>>
feral hog hunting.

which is environmental. Since the hogs are invasive and destroy natural wildlife.
>>
Arms for eventual race war. It's coming sooner or later
>>
Justifications are for serfs. You live in America.
>>
Assault rifles not registered prior to 1986 are already banned from regular civilian ownership in the United States. The posession and transfer of these preban assault rifles is heavily regulated and well documented by the BATFE.
>>
modern rifles are just good rifles that are easier to use through advancement of tech.if you want to talk 2nd amendment it is potentially for future generations to guard against tyranny
>>
>>33163298
An armed serf who is wholly unwilling to risk what little they have to possibly overturn a social order designed to exploit them is just as dangerous to potential tyrants as an unarmed serf. A firearm does not make you free.
>>
But how do we guard against tyranny if the government has access to drones and tanks?
>>
>>33163275
See>>33163299
>>
>>33163275
Having a $10,000+ chunk of steel that fires bullets really fast at incredibly high speeds.
>>
>>33163275
How else am i going to hold off a horde of niggers?
>>
>>33163275
It is a conflict of interest for the American government to decide who may or may not own arms.
>>
>>33163275
If this is a real person and not a sly thread opener, if Bill of Needs is not a sufficient answer they aren't worth arguing with. They'll have some sort of retort about realism or safety for anything. If they don't believe God made them free or at least a society is better when organized under that idea, there is no good answer. A necessary part of freedom is the threat of violence if freedom isn't respected.
>>
>>33163467
Perhaps I should clarify my friends position. He wants to ban already neutered guns like the AR-15 because of how easy they are to modify into fully automatic modes of fire.
>>
>>33163275
They're fun.
>>
>>33163552
then he's an idiot. If he brings up the lightening link then he's also an idiot. Colt took measure to make newer rifles that can avoid this.

>Oh not this LEGAL item can be made ILLEGAL
>Let's ban the LEGAL thing

doesn't make sense
>>
>>33163552
Show him how to make a fully automatic suppressed Sten in your garage with scrap metal and load it with homebrew cartridges. If he still believes in gun control, shoot him.
>>
>>33163552
but they absolutely aren't?
nearly impossible unless you are skilled enough to make an entire gun from scratch
if it was so simple, people would have been doing it for ages but no one ever does
>>
>>33163275
Have him define what constitutes an assault rifle, then destroy him on his weak points.

Also if its out of fear of being killed, ask him about his opinion on hunting rifles (texas tower), or on knifes and trucks (the Europe attacks, Akihabara massacre, the endless chinese knife massacres)If somebody wants to go on a spree, not having access to an ar-15 doesn't stop them, and they still can wrack up numbers with a knife and a truck.
>>
>>33163552
He asserts that they are too dangerous and no one should have them. Despite the fact its illegal to modify the AR in such a way. (Granted if someone is going to go on a shooting spree they're probably already not to keen on the law). I for one would like complete unrestricted freedom of assault rifles should person be in good mental health standing and can prove he is competent with the guns.
>>
>>33163552
Thats even easier. you can build a fully automatic tube based SMG from parts from your local home depot and plans easily available on the internet. costs you like 60 bucks tops. only annoying part is getting the magazine to feed alright, takes a bit of trial and error.
>>
>>33163275
Why not? Most gun crime is committed with handguns.
>>
>>33163459
The Us has been fighting a war against insurgencies for decades and has failed every time:

>'Nam
>Iraq
>Afghanistan
>Pakistan
>Nearly got stopped by the Natives in the west
>>
>>33163552
Ask him to define how one would convert a sem-auto AR lower into full auto. Shit, just ask him how mechanically a full auto sear works. If he can't explain, tell him to stop talking out his ass when he doesn't know shit
>>
>>33163582
AR's in particular are stupidly easy to turn full-auto. Most people don't, or don't advertise it, because they don't want v&'d.
Look what it takes to make a drop-in auto sear, or a lightning link.
>>
>>33163610
not to mention previous to the passage of the hughes amendment which made any MG made after 1986 illegal, the ATF testified against the bill citing that there were literally so few homicides committed with legal FA firearms that they could be counted on one hand, and that two of these were committed by police officers who were not affected by the bill.
>>
>>33163631
At this point, why not talk about how easy it is to build a gun if you have a modicum of machining experience. If you had to build everything yourself in a nogunz place, the hardest thing to acquire would be the smokeless power, honestly
>>
>>33163275
>Assault rifle

Anon, your friend is a retarded libcuck who doesn't know anything about guns.

Be better than him and use the proper terminology when referring to a certain type of firearm

Full auto = assault rifle

Semi auto = AR-15 or Modern Sporting Rifle

And no AR-15 DOES NOT MEAN "ASSAULT RIFLE 15" your friend will probably pull that out of his faggy little ass too

Good luck
>>
All greats points thus far. But his driving point is that even if we had free access to fully automatic assault rifles, what's the point because if we every tried fighting a tyrannical government, we would lose because they have tanks and drones that would kill insurgents?
>>
>>33163700
so he keeps asking "is the loss of life worth the what if scenario we would almost certainly lose?" according to him. Then I keep trying to tell him it doesn't matter it's my right. He won't agree though
>>
>>33163700
At this point he's just showing that he's a true retard. First of all, he clearly doesn't understand how easily molotovs knock out tanks, and drones... Well, I don't think that they can hit what they can't see. Innawoods isn't exactly easy to see through from the sky.

>what's the point because if we every tried fighting a tyrannical government, we would lose because they have tanks and drones that would kill insurgents?
There's a reason the Taliban has held out so long; it's hard to fight if anyone and everyone around you could, potentially, be a combatant. You can't just shoot everyone. If they did this, the feds would quickly lose the favor of the world at large. They also wouldn't want to have to rebuild their own infrastructure, so they likely wouldn't destroy it.
Drones and tanks can't enforce curfews.
Apaches can't see through glass or space blankets.

The founding fathers went up against the strongest military force on the planet at the time -- the British Navy. They should have lost. But they didn't.
>>
>>33163700
but america hasnt won any war against a dedicated insurgency... what makes your friends think that they would win one against their own people and in their own back yard?
>>
>>33163734
If he's worried about gun violence/loss of life, then he needs to concern himself with handguns, not rifles. The statistics don't support rifles being the "problem"

>What are the justifications for owning an Assault Rifle?
Wrong. Stop giving his bullshit credence by dignifying it with an answer and start attacking his justifications for stripping human rights.
>>
Honestly because theyre fun and the main drivers of crime are social and economic, not what sorts of weapons are available. Mass murder in general hasnt really gone up or down over the last century in the US. More people are being made murdered with guns nowadays, but back in the early 20th century high body counts were had by way of bombs and arson. Source: a book called Mass Murder, or something like that.

I personally dont justify owning guns based on fear of an evil government or the second amendment. The former is a lost cause and the latter an appeal to long dead authority figures who lived in an utterly different time and place.

But, guns are fun and we should be allowed to have them because banning them literally doesn't make sense and isn't necessary. Also, I think people do have an inherent right to self defense. Yes, you should try to run and save your life, but god dammit no one should be forced into the role of helpless victim when some piece of shit tries to fuck their day up.
>>
people assume that 2nd amendment means gun owners want to fight the us military.first the ffs did not write it assumeing anything besides people should bare arms in the interest of freedom in the future cause they nor we know what will happen in 100s or thousands of years.luckily they were geniouuses and not short sighted idiots that we have running around today, second if the people fought the us military it would be the saddest day in our history and many would say they are there to protect the constitution and believe in a America lol

A. It was put in the bill of rights so that if the government became tyrannical the people could overthrow. (see 1776)
B. Banning things never works. (See prohibition)
C. Fuck you, its my right to own a gun.
>>
>>33163275
It is our human right granted to us by god and reaffirmed by our government. we are ment to use them to maintain independance and fight tyranny, as stated by George Washington
>“A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” ~George Washington
If the people are to maintain a status of independence from their government they must be able to obtain and own weapons on par with their military's armament.

Hunting, sport shooting, home defense, militia service.
>>
>>33163275
It doesn't need to be justified. The burden of proof is always on the authority trying to restrict freedom, never on the people defending that freedom.
>>

yes, and they had assault rifles

Peacekeeping and Nation Building are not the same as wars anon. You can't possibly fight an insurgency and also do the hearts and minds thing. They're mutually exclusive.

I figure that the vast majority of gun owners in this country basically just want to be left alone. The gun is for when you're not left alone...

If gun owners were all the violent, intolerant, racist psychopaths the left so very dearly wishes we were just because we like our scray black rifles, then that's something like ~40% of the population and we would have easily killed the rest of them off by now.

Point him to the Baltimore Freddy Gray riot and the recent UC Berkley Milo riot. Both happened in states that ban 'assault weapons' and in both situations police officers were ordered by city officials to stand down and do nothing while innocent people were savagely battered by rioters. Both cities were rendered completely undefended and everybody was left helpless.

When your government fucks you in the ass and leaves you to the wolves, you literally NEED 'assault weapons' to survive.
>>
>>33163275
To protect us from the Federal Government, not just self defense, butnto preserve the liberty and freedom for our posterity. That part of the Second Amendment needs to be emphasized more in gun control debates because that is the main reason for the Second Amendment, not just self defense

>>33163275
To fight governments and their agents both foreign and domestic federal state and local. That was the entire stated purpose of the second amendment, besides the many maaany written records from those who initially came up with it its right in the fucking amendment itself.

>A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

>being necessary to the security of a free State

It's not talking about being free from deer eating your fucking tulips or free from birds shitting on your car, it's not talking about being free to have fun plinking steel and punch paper. It's talking about having guns to kill people that try to take away your freedom, those people assembled are usually called governments or militaries, police forces, gangs, whatever.

With that in mind our rights have been blatantly infringed on all levels. If I'm to fight against a trained and equipped force I want mounted large caliber machine guns and explosives. The pea shooter known as the "High powered military assault rifle 15." Is a worthless pile of garbage for a defensive position compared to let's say an M2 or minigun.
