Is it true I won't even be driving/gunning/loading on the M1 Abrams and that they are not used much in our current war situation?

What is the probability I'll be stationed at Ft. Hood?

Sense I have a college degree and am going in as a specialist (don't want to do OCS) can I request not to be stationed there and instead be at say Ft. Carson, Germany l, or Korea?

If I'm not in the Abrams what will I be doing?
>>
>>33158387
Son if you have the degree you will seriously want to rethink not becoming an officer just because of OCS
>>
>>33158387
You reek of arrogance. You're thinking your degree gives you leeway but it doesn't. I'm in exactly the same position as you but in a different country: joining the Armoured Corps as enlisted with a university degree under my belt.

No one gives a shit about you let alone what you want. Shut your fucking mouth and do your job well and maybe you'll get the opportunity. If not, don't bitch that you don't. You chose the life, now you deal with whatever is thrown at you.

Woah guys what's with the hate?
I'm not directly commissioning as an officer because I don't want to. I do not believe I have the necessary leadership skills yet and know next to nothing about the army besides what any civilian would know.

As for what I meant by having my degree I was asking if it would help at all when I choose preferences for my station.

Still didn't get a clear answer on what my job really will be doing. Is pic related the most likely outcome?
>>
>>33158393
Also I will be trying to do the green to gold method because I feel like enlisting will help me with a better understanding of the army.

I want this as a career, not a short sighted job.
>>
>>33158413
>>33158419
If you want it as a career go officer off the bat. You have no say in where you're going and your degree doesn't mean shit to the cadre. Your peers will hate you because you don't even realize how pretentious you are, and yes you'll be going to Ft. Hood. "Leadership skills" aren't a real thing. All officers and 99% of NCOs suck cock. If "leadership skills" were real you wouldn't get them being a fucking junior NCO or enlisted man, you would just be wasting valuable years. Go officer asshole.

19k 2008-2011 here.

Got to Ft Bliss and did tank training for a year. Deployed to Iraq with no tanks for a year.
Then did another year of tank training at Ft Bliss before getting out.

Have fun doing maintenance.
>>
>>33158449
I was told I don't meet the PT requirements of hitting the top 20th percentile and would not be chosen for OCS because of this
>>
>>33158419
If you really want it as a career, going in as enlisted instead of as an officer is the most short sighted move possible. Listen to >>33158413 You don't get any say in this shit, it's the military. You better get used to taking orders if you're going to actually join.

Think this shit over for a while longer first, you're about to make a big fucking commitment. Also, recruiting officers are fucking liars, don't take their word on anything you can't get in writing.
>>
>>33158470
What MOS should I do instead? I'd like to see combat but not 11B
>>
>>33158413
you won't have much say where you go. Maybe at the when your re enlistment comes up they'll give you a few choices. There's not to much armor in Germany anymore but you'll have a good chance to go to Korea.

If you enlist as a 19K you'll be put on an Abrams. Strykers are run by infantry dudes, Palladins are run by artillery dudes, Bradleys are run by scouts.
>>
>>33158476
Then take the time before signing up getting your fat ass in shape so you can get the score.
>>
>>33158387
>Sense I have a college degree

I bet you went to a state school and got a BA in business or some shit. You can't even spell.
>>
>>33158503
Autocorrect on my phone. Sorry man. I did go to a state school and get a business degree though kek
>>
>>33158486
Thanks for some insight. I'd like to go to Germany that would be great, not sure about Korea but wouldn't be totally opposed. Have you been to either?
>>
>>33158486
>If you enlist as a 19K you'll be put on an Abrams. Strykers are run by infantry dudes, Palladins are run by artillery dudes, Bradleys are run by scouts.

I saw 19k's on all except the Paladins.

>>33158479
What do you mean? You gonna let a little tank maintenance scare you from enlisting?

>I wanna see combat but I don't wanna do any hard work

Fucking kill yourself now before you get my friends killed you sad sack of shit, I can already tell you can't hack it.
>>
>>33158511
Dude, just don't. Doing my 4 years in the USMC was good and all but I had a degree as well, and believe me I was cleaning toilets with the kids right out of high school. The degree doesn't mean shit if you go enlisted, and good luck trying to tell your instructors at MOS school "umm I have a degree so let me pick duty stations first". Believe me you'll regret it when you see dudes with exactly the same qualifications as you literally having the power of a feudal lord over your life and treating you like an autistic child. You said green to gold but Enlisted-> Officer programs are actually significantly harder to get into than OCS. And again, I emphasize when I say you'll be treated badly, it's not some brutal spartan training regimen or whatever, I mean you'll be standing in formations hour after hour or scrubbing your barracks room clean while getting lectured about how irresponsible you all are because some 19 year old in your platoon was drinking underage. Do you really want that for 4 years?

Military experience>no military experience in life, but you're literally making a horrifically stupid, downright masochistic choice by not going officer (believe me there are dumbass and fatass officers too, it's not that hard).
>>
>>33158515
If you're gonna be this picky about your deployments, you probably should just go logistics or something.
>>
>>33158522
Fuck off
>>
>>33158522
What are the odds he gets into basic and pulls the "I'm feeling depressed and suicidal" to get out when he changes his mind?
>>
>>33158522
Suck a raging cock you egotistically pog. The way you talk reminds me of the fucking fobbits who never even see a raghead first hand that come back screaming about PTSD and rolling on the carpet when fireworks go off. He didnt say shit about not wanting to do the hardwork. He doesn't want to be a grunt, he wants to work with the most badass machinery the world has to offer. Stop projecting you fuck.
>>
>>33158546
He'll sprain his ankle at 30th AG, go to FTU, get "depression" or remember he has asthma or something and go home.

Yea, you gonna tell that to Hadji when your truck breaks down and you gotta set it up to get towed while they're shooting at you?

>I'm sorry Hadji, I have a college degree, so I don't feel like doing maintenance right now. Stop shooting please!

Or maybe you'll just skip out on the weekly maintenance on your truck because you just wanna "get into some action" but not do any actual work that might save you or your friends' lives

Nah dude, just forget it, you can't hack it, especially with your shit attitude.
>>
>>33158554
Thanks man. I was just looking for any other suggestions of a MOS that I may like.
>>
>>33158569
You seem to be upset

Don't you ever get stationed to ft. hood mother fucker! That place is the suicide central of the ASS of texas and had two mass shootings for a fucking reason. Don't ever get stationed there! That place is a depression induced hell hole.
>>
>>33158569
Your post reeked of "don't do this MOS. It's shit"

So he fucking asked you WHAT he should do instead and you fly off the handle. Are you really this fucking retarded?
>>
>>33158554
>tell my experience
>mention "have fun doing maintenance"
>now all of a sudden he doesn't want to be a 19k after one sentence about doing hard work.

Whatever bro, let him watch your 6.
>>
>>33158580
Is joining as a Warrant officer an option?
>>
>>33158575
>muh pt score
So making shit excuses to rag on him still are we? You just can't seem to accept this and have to make shit up.
>>
>>33158580
All I said is exactly what I did, and said "have fun doing maintenance, which is exactly what a tanker does, and a shit ton of it.
Now he doesn't want to be a tanker, and says he "wants to see combat, but not be a grunt".

Sorry but to me that says "I want the easy way".

You want to see combat OP? Be Infantry, Tanker, Cav Scout, or Artillery. If you're afraid of maintenance, or hard work, find something else.
>>
>>33158581
I have seen a hell of a lot worse. So he's unsure and decided to ask questions now rather than wait it out. I'd say that is a better mentality than most. Your stated experience was awful and then topped off with "have fun doing maintenance" which implies that's all he would be doing.

Of course he is going to have second thoughts.
>>
>>33158581
>"I want to be a Doctor!"
>"Have fun memorizing shit in med school and dealing with insurance companies in practice"
>"nvm what's a good career?"

>"I want to be a scientist!"
>"Have fun filling out grant proposals and writing papers."
>"nvm what's a good career?"

This guy wants free will, doesn't want to raise his fitness performance, and is turned off by menial work. Why the fuck would you want to go military, let alone combat arms.

>>
>>33158589
Listen man I didn't mean to come off the wrong way. I read your first post as if you hated the MOS. That's the reason I asked if you had a recommendation for another.

Now. I want to be a tanker. I do. This thread way made for a couple of reasons but the main one was to make sure I was selecting the right MOS and not being dicked about by recruiter. I want to drive the M1. That's what I want to do. I want to make sure 19k is the right MOS.

I've heard terrible things about Ft. Hood and just wanted to see if anyone knew of a way I could avoid it.

Thank you for your help.
>>
>>33158586
I'll be honest I don't know much about the WO program. Should check out the branches website for more info on that. But yes it is an option if you want to fly. Take note though that it's very competitive to be a pilot. They try to DQ you for that since it's a very popular job, but crewman positions are fairly easy to acquire I do believe.
>>
>>33158588
Make shit up? He said he isn't going OCS because of PT requirements himself, dumbass >>33158476
>>
>>33158610
What is the MOS for helicopter crewman? All I found was the Blackhawk repairer

Please show me where I said 2 years of tank training stateside and a tour in Iraq without tanks was "awful"? Tanks can be really fun, sadly, you spend more time doing bullshit then on the tank.
Personally, I prefered being dismounted in Iraq though.

All I said was "have fun doing maintenance" which is absolutely true, and a shit part of the job. Just like doing long ruck marches is a shit part of being Infantry.

>>33158606
If you become a 19k, you will get some time on the tank, even if it's just in basic. After that, you might get some stateside, or you might be on strykers or bradleys.
IMO it's better than infantry. I'd rather let my gun carry me during training exercises, but in war, it's up to your unit's mission. Like I said, we didn't even deploy with tanks, only gun trucks.

I hated Ft Bliss, I knew I'd hate it before I got there, but the Army is the Army, you're told what to do and where to go.
>>
>>33158606
btw, if I rustled your jimmies, you better get ready for the real deal bantz in basic and in your unit.

People are going to tell you every step of the way "you can't make it" and you're a "piece of shit"
>>
>>33158627
just do 15T you will crew as a gunner and a maintainer
>>
>>33158649
I'll do some reading up
>>
>>33158685
im an AF blackhawk maintainer.
i trained with 15T and they man the gun
blackhawk crew consists of 2 pilots and 2 gunners

Fucking this. Sorry you watched Fury and got your hopes up, but the reality is that when you go 19k, you sell your soul to the motor pool. You are a mechanic.
