B-52 carrier landing. Can it be done?
Sure, just knock off every other multimillion dollar aircraft on it
>>33157351
just need to crab it in to offset the Coriolis force.
>>33157351
>hypothetical aircraft shit
could it still be flying? i mean, its special fuel is still being bought in bulk by the air force, and its special refueler flys out at the same time every day, but no one knows why? it wouldnt be the first time something sneaky like this was done by the military, and there was a program to convert them into bombers or interceptors but it was scrapped because people already knew what the plane was capable of, and right after that the plane was conveniently retired, with two of them in "flyable service". plus they did some sneaky tricks to make sure no one knew exactly how many they had, perhaps they had more?

NO

I KEKd
But on the flip side U-2s have some carrier landings...

Maybe. Maybe not.
Maybe the USAF is operating its successor instead.

Biggest plane to ever land on a carrier is a c-130

How many WWII aircraft could a Nimitz carry?
>>33157475
A shit ton. Modern fighters are about as large as WW2 bombers.

that they did this with slide rules is just astonishing. Then again I used to do statistical analysis pre-spreadsheets.

I know right? Its a fucking turbo ram jet engine from the 50s that may or may not still be in use today..
Whatever happened to seaplanes?
>>33157584
They are still a thing.
China loves them (it's a communist plot to claim territorial waters)
>>33157532
Implying you're real and we aren't in a dog's dream
>>33157351
You could if you had an empty deck and a sufficiently-powerful means of arresting the plane's forward motion and bringing it to a rapid halt.
The pilots would be exposed to a lot of force as the plane lost its speed.
Maybe something like a series of nuclear-powered wind-turbines set up on the deck to provide a very powerful headwind as the plane arrived, combined with a device to shear off the plane's wings once it landed in order to reduce the weight of material you'd need to stop.
It would be a violent, one-time-use landing, though.

Implying the sr-71 is a space plane
Implying it's not real
implying here is not real
implying we are split personalities
implying stuck in a dogs dream
Implying the dogs dream is actually inside the computer of an SR-71 right now

gonna make a thread about this
re: carrier landings
I don't know if I'm phrasing this question properly, but...
What is the proper dialogue between a carrier's flight control officer (?) and a pilot (and any other parties) as an aircraft comes in for landing?
Once again, I don't know if that's the correct phrasing for the question. Sorry if I'm fucking up somewhere.

You'd have to land on the port side elevators. That can't be good for 'em
>>33157470
do you think lockheed could make something like the blackbird again today? or have they gone too far down the path of the jew?
>>33157351
On any existing carrier?
No.
Can a carrier be built to carry it?
Probably.
Please china, make a carrier big enough for a b52. You have the means...
What's China's equivalent of a b52?
>catapults cant launch something over ~85000 Ib
>see f-111B & NATF f-22
Is this true?
>>33158032
>What's China's equivalent of a b52?
A C52
It's a lot like a B52 and even has interchangeable parts, but it's completely Chinese designed and superior in every way.
>>33158032
Gooks can't develop anything on their own so they are still using the only piece of bomber technology they ever got from Soviet Union all the way back in the 1950s - the Tu-16.

wait hold on
did they unironically cover the engine intakes with passenger hand grips
fucking idiots
>>33157940
At this point it is easier to develop a new aircraft than update the old one to modern standarts. And ofc they can, i do not see what would stop them, assuming they have a contract.
>>33158356
Whut? Its an intake cover, it has grips. What is the problem?
>>33158348
>>33158348
So since b52s are old crash land. A problem like that is one and a million. Also, b52s are tactical bombers now owned by the air force. why are they going to risk damaging US navy assets so they can take out a mud hut? keep in mind, I'm not an expert by any means just a soldier with a air power fetish
The B-52 can do it with the space shuttle attach to its roof...
>>33158380
What if it has nuclear ordnance on board?
>>33157940
Depends on who built the Aurora.
>>33157475
Essex Class displacement = 30,800 tons
Essex Class max load = 100 aircraft
Nimitz Class displacement = 104,000 tons
Nimitz Class WW2-era max load by the rules of proportion = 337 aircraft

Not if you jam the landing gear in the gutters.

No, not even close. B-52 wingspan is 56m, Nimitz-class beam 78m.
>>33158549
That is way too simplistic approach. You would have to consider how hangars in both classes work.
really makes u think
