Alright /k/, I want some glorious M16a1 furniture and an upper to match. I've seen some pics of people with wooden triangle grips and stuff, but obviously I want a furniture set in SCAREE TACTICAL SALT WEPON black. Where can I obtain such things?
>>
>>33154356
Try google, a1 furniture sets are cheap and plentiful.

But if you dont get proper a1 controls, upper/lower recievers, forward assist and dust cover dont bother, a2/a1 rifles are abortions.

I think they're alright.

Just finished mine. Used a whatacountry parts kit with a NoDakSpud a1 style lower. Shit turned out cash af

Put in my order to NoDak last August and they're only processing last February's now. The wait is killing me.

Brownells had proper uppers and lowers available.

??? Mine has a proper upper and lower. the upper is an original colt one

Great effort. Lower is a little off, still has too much pivot pin hole reinforcement.

It's a late production/colt 603 clone. Atleast that is what it best matches. The late productions ones had slightly more pivot reinforcement iirc. Such as seen here:

>>
>>33154356
I've been wanting to do one for a lot time but sourcing the upper is difficult. There are plenty of SP01 uppers on the market but those lack the forward assist which I want for aesthetic reasons.

I can find stripped uppers but then sourcing the rear sight is difficult

Whatacountry has m16A1 parts kits in stock for $699.

Or if you want to part it out, numrich has A1 furniture sets for $50
>>
Buy a vintage Colt SP1.
>>

What barrel did you use?

Any source on A1 rear sight kits?

I'm living in bongistan for grad school until september. If i were to order an A1 lower this week from nodak, does anyone know how long it would take for it to ship? i know they take a while so I'd like to run the clock down while Im over here and possibly order a whatacountry parts kit when i return even though I know Im getting jew'd hard

>>33156473
I'm also curious as to what barrel you used for this build, looks bretty gud
>>
>>33159112
Honestly looking around, piecing it together would probably wind up being about as much as whatacountry sells it for. I mean, the only place to find an A1 upper is the one Brownells made, and they're out of stock and not available for backorder. Other places wanted $200 for the upper alone. Then you add BCG, gas tube, all the small bits, buffer and buffer tube..

You can probably piece it together a little cheaper, but it'll be a huge pain in the ass.
>>
What about this guys? Not OP but I have a NDS A1 lower and I want to get this kit to finish it off. Are Green Mountain barrels good?

http://shop.ar15sport.ihoststores.com/productinfo_v3.aspx?productid=RET-COLT-A1
>>
>>33159174
>$1200
jesus christ.
AR15sport.com is legit, I bought a bunch of my A2 parts from them, and they have a lot of good reviews. Green Mountain barrels are very highly regarded as well.

However, you could buy the whatacountry kit and a green mountain barrel and still be $250 under what they're charging, so you could put in a nice trigger if you wanted to.
It sounds like they did a lot of work to make these look new, and they also put the upper together. If you're not down to build an upper, especially an upper which requires a front sight base to be drilled/pinned/aligned, then I'd say it's probably not the worst deal in the world. You'd have a brand new looking A1.

I would also consider these options
>>33156648
>>33154569
>>
>>33159152
If i were to piece one together I would probably just suck it up and order a matching nodak upper since they look like theyre good qualtiy, albeit kind of pricey. Buying a whatacountry kit would just be easier overall in my opinion, but im really more concerned with getting the difficult parts while im out of the country like the receiver parts and a barrel. the barrel alone will be a pain in the ass

I expect building an A1 will be tedious and annoying, but I was bitten by the retro bug before i moved and now i cant stop thinking about it. goddammit.
>>
>>33158805
Colt SP1s are awful if you want a clone.
>>
>>33159208
One part that is hard to find if you buy a Nodak upper is the A1 rear sight. I just ordered 2 sets off of Apex for $7. I haven't seen these sets for sale literally anywhere. If I were you, I would spend the $6 to get a set shipped to someone in the states in case you decide to go Nodak. I probably will go Nodak as well; I have an A1 stock set in my closet already. I'd rather use new parts and have a look alike than a 70s era used as shit rifle.
>the one posted above is fucking hot though
>>
>>33159205
I think I'll just get that kit. I know it's not too hard to put an AR together from scratch but I like the fact that all steel/aluminum has been refinished or reanodized, and I'm not a poorfag so I don't feel bad spending the extra dosh. It's also all surplus Colt parts minus the barrel which soothes my autism. Thanks m8
>>
>>33159246
It'll be a beautiful rifle man, post pics when it's done!
>>
>>33159218
Ok so i cant access apex since im not in the states, so thats a pain in the ass. do you know if they decided to use standard feed ramps for the nodak upper or if they tried to be all tacticool and give it m4 ones? because what Im thinking is that i could get the nodak lower, whatacountry kit since it comes with an upper and rear sight, then top it off with:
http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/gm-m15-m16-a1-5-56mm-20-1-12-twist-20-barrel/

It 1:12 which im not exactly the biggest fan of, but i guess its more historically accurate that way

For handguards I shit you not the cheapest if found was from Ghetto(somethingican'tremember) for $14. $30 shipping cuz ordering from california sucks ass.

Still don't build an exact replica. Faxon Light weight 4150 barrel is cheaper and better than the competition. I built an AR that weighs 7.7 lbs

on the Aforementioned, magpul carbine butt stock and BUIS, it ain't me handguards, YHM phantom comp/flash hider.

Magpul 20 rounders make it look Sexy. I wish the 30 round mag did, but it looks too gaudy.

M193 is a blast to hunt boar with.

I doubt they have m4 feed ramps. Check Faxon firearms, they have 20" pencil barrels in modern twist rates. Thats who I plan on going for mine. AR15sport.com sells some too, I think; at the very least theirs comes with the front sight already installed.

>>33159283
Dude, Numrich gun parts sells the whole shebang; handguards, stock, and pistol grip for $49. Some niggers on GB (and Apex) try to sell grips alone for like $30.

>>33159293
that rifle is... ah.... interesting. I don't hate it actually. Would look better with the A1 grip or maybe a BCM grip

I'm going to start paying an extra $100 or so per month into taxes to ensure I get a refund, or at least break even.

Would look better with a Magpul rifle-length handguard (and be more durable desu), but that's just my opinion.
>>
>>33159321
not gonna lie, the 1:9 20" one on Ar15sport looks pretty tempting, but theyre on backorder right now. assuming theyre back in stock soon I would buy one of those in a heartbeat. Im a bit of a poorfag so ill probably have to buy the essentials over time and save up for the whatacountry kit if theres really no major difference in pricing in the end
>>
>>33154356

Make M16A2.
Clean with tap water.
Leave to air dry by the sea.

There, gun jams like authentic A1, you're welcome OP.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I'd rather ask here than the elitists at /ARG/.

This is my first AR (pic related), and my only one so far. I like it just fine, but it's obvious when I bought the components, I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted...

I was thinking of just getting a gray MOE hand guard and a new gray grip, to match the weirdly gray A2 stock...would that work you think in having a not so weird looking identity crisis rifle?

Any suggestions?

Can't be, no finger grooves. I just looked at their site, and the only grips they have without the groove don't have that angle.

Thanks though.

keeps small cracks in check and A1 hand guards don't lock together so it keeps the plastic from pinching down on my hands, The tape also helps with grip when it's hot out.

They're made mostly from old parts that Colt had on hand when the military called for something else. They're all mixed up, don't actually look like any military rifle.
