You know a bill is fucked up when both the ACLU and the NRA can work together to oppose it.
Glad this thing is dead in the water.

The rule, finalized in December, would have resulted in 75,000 social security recipients who use a representative payee losing their Second Amendment rights without due process.
The now-revoked rule would have affected those on disability for conditions that include eating disorders and anxiety.

>>33154011
The ACLU doesn not believe the 2nd Amendment is an individual right and will not take cases to protect it.

>But gun control laws, like any law, should be fair, effective and not based on prejudice or stereotype. This rule met none of those criteria.
>In this era of “alternative facts,” we must urge politicians to create laws based on reliable evidence and solid data.
They still don't like Trump, but even they were able to realize how stupid and unconstitutional this shit was.
>>33154215
And at first, the communists will refuse to identify as communists.
>>33154250
Anyone with leftist ideology is ACTUALLY a socialist/communist (aka deluded and dangerous) fundamentally.
The ACLU has zero respect for the 2A and will gladly push for its repeal at the first opportunity. The left appears to have suffered ultimate defeat on gun control (both in the courts and amongst the public) so we can all step off the ledge a little bit, but still do not support in ANY WAY groups like the ACLU. They are not your friend and they are staunchly anti-gun.

It's a shame really
They are/were rabidly anti-patriot act
So Obama's executive order said if your SS checks went to a third party who was handling your affairs, it was assumed you weren't mentally capable and that information was mandandated to be forwarded to the NICS. So people you formed trusts to protect their wealth and have their SS checks sent to a lawyer managing their trust now have to prove they are compatent when their purchase applications were rejected.

WRONG
You contribute to fund your entire life so you can get a share of it back after retirement so youre not fucking broke if something bad happens to your retirement fund
Government saw fat pile of cash sitting around "doing nothing" and spent it.

>>33154458
I actually have. I should have said multi-millionaire.
>>33154474
No it means you're a retard kill yourself with a rope
>>33154474
"Mentally ill" is an extremely broad term encompassing those with as mild as anxiety. They could get guns until recently when the Obama administration passed an executive order forcing this.
Question: how did this pass without 60 votes? Did no Democrats filibuster despite shreeking that it would allow the mentally ill to buy guns?
>>33154458
>jack shit
Over 9 grand per year not to mention my employer contribution. Hell yes, I would like to manage that myself.

>>33154442

>>33154444
Dont trust them for a second, these people are extremely selective in how they interpret the SCOTUS rulings on the guns. They do not respect Heller or McDonald.
>>33154559
They literally spent it
>>33154533
Laws don't need 60 votes only majority. Over riding a presidential veto requires 60 votes. Well 2/3.
>>33154458
>they barely take jack shit
6% of your income up to like $120k is jack shit? Keep in mind that your employer matches that amount for you in payroll taxes so it actually ends up being 12.4% of your paycheck going to social security. If you're self-employed then you have to pay the entire 12.4% yourself and it sucks a giant cock, especially when you know that you likely won't be getting any benefit from it in 30-40 years when you're ready to retire.
>>33154571
They literally spent it by dispersing it how it's suppossed to be dispersed.
I'm so glad I can retire at 60 and collect full benefits instead of throwing money into a Ponzi scheme like the rest of society.
>>33154602
>how it's suppossed to be dispersed.
Yeah im sure the point of SS was for congress to fucking dip into it for random shit amirite?
>>33153965
it means retards and psychos on welfare can not be prevented from owning a gun
>>33154602
No they didn't. They took it for all manor of social programs and defense needs and left I.O.U.s.
>>33154610
>Implying they ever did that.
Are you fucking retarded?
How is this a win? The people are still on welfare. Now they just have more shit to spend the money they dont have on.
>>33154574
Laws need 60 votes to pass a filibuster, so it would seem that Democrats were merely grandstanding on the issue, or the AARP cracked the whip telling them to fuck off
>>33154238
neat
>>33154298
>>33154561
That's basically the official stance of the national organization, but I've heard that individual state branches are more likely to be pro gun, Arizona's branch in particular.
From what I've heard, a lot of members within the ACLU are actually sympathetic to the second amendment, which is why they don't actually talk that much about guns in general, to avoid internal conflict. And why they tend to side with the NRA on cases where there are obvious due process or privacy concerns.
From what I've heard, the official stance of the national board is there to secure funding from liberal elites in the coasts.
This isn't ideal, but to my knowledge, I don't think they have ever actually entered a case and sided against gun rights. I could be wrong there, though.
>>33154238
USA today had ran several unbiased articles centered around guns.
They did one on mass shootings and showed how skewed it was because some institutions reported multiple people being shot with a BB gun a mass shooting.
Not the worst place to view news.

>>33154739
the American Civil Liberty Union is, unlike what alot of people will say on this board, not working against gun ownership. They frankly view it as an extremely low priority compared to first, fourth, and fifth amendment rights.
I quite like them as an organization and I donate to them regularly.
>>33154641
It's a win because Obamalaws were sliding us into California HARD. The thought pattern was if you are mentally ill, no guns.
If you don't trust the government you are mentally ill (Anti Authority Disorder/Oppositional Defiant Disorder).
If you don't trust food companies and GMOs you are mentally ill (Orthorexia Nervosa).
A whole slew of others as defined and redefined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th and 5th editions.
End result - anyone who disagrees in the slightest is mentally ill and is not allowed to have a gun.
The Obamalaw was for people on social security, but it was an easy step to go from that to everyone. The Trump repeal is a win.
>>33154185
Fugging commies trying to take away my rights because I felt a nervous when at the doctors
>>33154238
This is why the ACLU is hilarious. They were literally founded by commies, but will stand up for anything that's got the Bill of Rights behind it. They don't like associating with either the dems or the GOP
>>33154739
There is no shortage of groups in the USA to support that do not have to neuter their national stance on guns to appease coastal liberals. ACLU is the enemy until proven otherwise.
s...stupid drumpfucks, trump is just trying to trick you into letting your guard down...he's an anti-gun shill...you should support his impeachment and support putting Her in the white house...she won the popular vote...stupid drumpfucks are just getting used...y..you'll see..
>>33153877
I'm actually against this. If you're enough of a shitbag or leech that you're on welfare or "disability" you don't deserve guns.

Imagine for a moment that you run a national organization that is involved in hundreds, of not thousands, of court cases each year with a budget of only ~$12.5mil. Your resources are stretched pretty thin, to say the least. Do you actively fight for gun rights in court, or do you let the NRA with its budget of ~$350mil tackle those fights since they're going to do it anyway? You'll note that the ACLU does write supporting briefs for the NRA when whatever the NRA is fighting blends with another ACLU cause like the 4th Amendment.
>>33155506
The ACLU fights for civil liberties. That's their job. They aren't fighting Trump because he's a Republican, they are figgting against very specific decisions he's made because the ACLU feels the decisions violate those rights. Just like they did against Obama, and Dubya, and Clinton, and Bush Sr., and so on and so forth.
>>33157547
>with a budget of only ~$12.5mil.
Got the number way, way wrong. ~$133.4mil, but my basic point still stands.
