I wish we knew more about Steve. I've watched almost all his vids now (I like to older and/or xotic rations. His reviews of 90s or newer stuff isn't as interesting to me) and I feel like I don't know anything about him. Does he have more personal stuff on the MREinfo website? How old is he? Why did he get into rations? Did he serve, or did his parents serve? Is he married/has a gf? He's actually in really good shape from what we can see of him, and he's pretty attractive (no homo) so it makes you wonder.

You can buy generic stuff online quite easily, but if you want some of the rarer items you're going to need contacts or lots of research on ebay, etc. Personally I just assumed that he was/is in the military and maybe deployed in Okinawa at some point.

It's weird, his videos have way more views than any of Ians vids (steve regularly breaks 100k, which Ian rarely does) yet Ian has about 2x as many subs as Steve.

It'd be cool if Steve set up a patreon or something, but I don't know if he'd be into it. I'm not sure if his mission is as defined as Ian's is. They both have a similar goal I think, they'd probably get along if they ever met. It's be really fun to see them do a video together where Ian brings some guns that would've been used in the same time period as the rations that Steve brings.

I've been thinking of sending Steve a PM with this website (https://reprorations.com/) in it, it's really interesting imo and it's run by a bunch of vets. They create reproductions of older rations which seem pretty accurate to my untrained eye. I think it might interest Steve because it'd give him something to actually show on camera if he just wanted to talk about rations from the first or second world war. Even rations from those wars in good shape rarely have anything edible left in them. Of course, he may not like it at all because it's not authentic, so I guess it's a toss up. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is into reproductions of anything.

There's something about rations and MREs that goes viral. I'm not sure why. Some of those dumb youtubers like Crazy Russian Hacker have been making MRE videos as well for this very reason. Even Styxhexenhammer666. Also, Ian tends to get very heavy on the gun information, which probably scares away some of the more casual viewers who just want to see a redneck shoot some 2 litres.

I think the "gross out" factor is a huge part of Steve's appeal. For some reason, you humans seem to love watching gross shit unfold on camera. Just look at all the cyst and zit popping vids on youtube. Steve kinda gets into that market with the older rations he goes through, opening cans of mystery meat and cheese and going all out and even eating some of the stuff that doesn't look too bad.

But besides that, Steve has an amazing voice. Almost all of his videos have someone commenting how soothing he sounds when talking, so that's a great draw for people. His videos are actually pretty soothing, even when he's opening gross old stuff.

And they interesting most of all. It's interesting to see what our soldiers actually ate back during wars of the past. I don't think a lot of people thought about that much, so to see the comforts of home they were given is kind of humbling. It at least makes you think about what it would be like in their shoes, lugging around guns and gear and then sitting down to a tin of cold spaghetti and some gum.

Steve is pretty much perfect infotainment. He shows the history of these MREs but also wraps it up in an entertaining way and has a good personality.

Ian is a cool guy and presents a ton of in depth info, but I think that scares away more casual viewers. He also doesn't seem as down to earth as Steve does, but that's due to the nature of his information and how he has to present it more than anything. In shooting videos, Ian seems like a fun guy.
