Just ordered a Springfield TRP Operator, got it for $1,200 new which is pretty good for the TRP line. Same as pic related but with fixed night sights. Going to add a Surefire x300U and ten round Chip McCormick mags. Opinions? Also General 1911 thread

>Springfield TRP
Good choice, anon. I have a TRP and a Sig Scorpion 1911, both are the best non-custom 1911s I've own across the 9-10 I've had pass through my hands. Only disagreement is
>Chip McCormick mags
Wilson Combat > Chip
>>
>>33142703
I have had bad experiences with the Chips 10 rounders. They have tilting followers and feel cheap.

Wilson Combat 8 rounders are my go-to mag. Never had a failure with those.
Never had a failure with my Nighthawk mags either.

Had about two out of the Chip.
>>
>>33142703
I just bought a SS TRP. I can't wait to take it to the range. $1,200 is a nice price. I think some places try sell them for a couple hundred more than that. You got the adjustable night sights? I bet those are nice.
>>
I was pretty disappointed with the chip McCormick 10 rounder when I found it will over insert into an empty magwell with the slide locked bad since the baseplate doesn't adequately stop the mag and jams will ensue.
>>
>>33142761
>>33142763
Not OP, but that is nice to know. I've been meaning to order some of the CM mags (maybe 10 rounders) but I'll see what WC has too.
>>
>>33142761
>>33142763
>>33142794
I've never had any problems with the Chip 10 rounders in my Sig TacOps 1911, I might try out some wilson 10 rounders though now since people have mentioned it, I just really liked the way the black base pad on the Chip McCormicks covers the extended part of the mag
>>33142789
Nah I got the fixed Novac night sights. I dont really have a need for the adjustable.

How are the RIA 1911s for a poorfag option?
>>
>>33143064
Good starter 1911, a way to get your feet wet and decide if you really like 1911's or not without breaking the bank. If you like it eventually move on to a more expensive model though. Wouldn't recommend for anything other than the range though, just my personal experience, maybe they QC has improved since I last shot one.
>>
>>33143096
Yeah, it'd be pretty much just a range toy or a plinking gun.
I'm looking for my first pistol and the RIA 1911s seem to be about the only interesting tihng in my price range.
I know I could probably get a glock for not a whole lot more money but I'm the kind of faggot who feels like glocks just lack character.
>>
>>33143064
Not a bad choice desu. supposedly they're higher line of guns get a good bit of handwork/individual attention, cant think of another manufacturer offering that for just under 7 bills. what are you thinking about getting from them?
>>
>>33142703

Whats the standard mag size they come with?
>>
>>33143131
Then its good for that. A really good mid tier 1911 that doesnt break the bank is the Ruger SR 1911 series too, comes in black and stainless, and an option for a rail model.
>>
>>33143170
The TRP comes with 8 two round mags sadly
>>
>>33143158
Probably just the 5" GI model, aimsurplus has them for under 450bux
>>
>>33143191

Damn. 8 rounds feels low...

It looks like a really good gun tho.
>>
>>33143224
That's why I buy 10 rounds mags instead. 10+1 is pretty good for me.
>>
>>33142703
>ten round Chip McCormick mags

I use them in my 1980's SA 1911A1 G'vt model, and I've never had a FTF with them, or with SA mags after about 2K rounds. I've had a couple fail to feeds with old surplus mags, so I got rid of them.
>>
>>33143173
seconded. got one of those for my first 1911 and hasnt had a malfunction yet. plus you can find em used for like 625-650 on armslist a lot.

>>33143218
not a bad idea, not exactly sure what their current offerings are but you may want to see if they have a model for a little more with non GI sights and an extended beavertail or atleast non GI grip safety. those are usually peoples major gripes with GI pattern 1911s. Citadel might be worth a look too, hear they have better triggers/steel than RIA but again its been a while since i did my research.
>>
>>33143064
>How are the RIA 1911s for a poorfag option?

A buddy of mine bought one, and I was impressed. Right out of the box it held a 2" group at 7 yards, and usually the 1911's need a couple hundred rounds break-in.

It had a tight fit, and we swapped a couple parts when we were cleaning our gear, and I'm convinced the Rock Islands ARE milspec, and maybe even tighter than spec.

He got his for about $500 new at J&G last year.
>>
>>33142761

I've had 3 Wilson mags fall on me in 3 different 1911's and exactly 0 of my 9 Chip mags fail.
>>
>>33145973
Chip pls go
>>
>>33142761
>>33142794
the Wilson Combat 10 rounders suck too because the overinsertion stop breaks off if you look at it funny. Stick to the 8 rounders and you're good though.

Seriously, what the shit Wilson. I barely used the mag and it popped off.
>>
>>33143191
8 two round magazines? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just ship it with 2 7 rounders?
>>
>>33143628
>Right out of the box it held a 2" group at 7 yards, and usually the 1911's need a couple hundred rounds break-in.

When they talk about break in periods, its for reliability, not accuracy. Also 2" aint shit.
>>
>>33146478
I'd guess by his lack of knowledge that he was shooting offhand so we can't judge the gun by a 7 yd grouping.
>>
>>33146500
What does offhand shooting have to do with lack of knowledge? Regardless, any good can can put holes in holes at that range.
>>
>>33146419
I have never seen that, it looks quite solid and have never given me a problem

Are you just pretending to be retarded?
>>
>>33148882
Pretty good. My local shops have them for closer to 700, with only two mags.
>>
>>33148882
NICE! I love SA's wood grips on the old school finish. Magazines aren't cheap, so 4 (more than what comes stock) extra mags is great.
What type of holster did you get?

I work at an FFL and so far they have been the best people to deal with on the phone.
>>
>>33150666

>666

Well the mags and holster were part of a rebate so I haven't gotten them yet but I'm sure its not going to be anything worth writing home about.

I did order an alien gear holster too. I'm thinking about trying an AIWB sometime also.
>>
>>33142703
what's a good starter 1911 for someone I just got old enough for permits and such so what should I get? always been interested in gun history and such, but live in cali so they hard to come by
>>
>>33150774
This is a good first 1911. >>33148882
Springfield GI Milspec
>>
>>33150740
Ok, so the SA holster. It may not be a custom leather IWB, but it should still be a solid holster. I'm thinking of ordering one from them for the range.
>>
>>33150774
>>33150798
FYI $749 is the lowest price SA wants their distributors to sell the mil spec for.

TRP is g2g except the sights are setup for 6 o clock at 25 yards by default. IMO it's a combat handgun and should be POA-POI. If that's your thing springfield will change out your front sight for free.

Other than that minor gripe, great gun, flawless through about 1000 rounds now.
>>
>>33146470
idk what anon got, but mine did indeed come with 2 7 rounders.
>>
>>33154127
I think thats springfield's standard. My RO Operator came with 2 7 rounders as well.
