Couldn't find it in the catalog so I'm making one.

Was gonna ask, what happened to /brg/? Was away for a week and haven't seen one since I got back few days ago. Did veryone get tired of comparing the same 3 rifles? I liked lurking those threads.

This anime is such garbage. Great idea with horrible execution.
>>
I'm eye/hand cross dominate.

on a scale of 1-10 how important is it that I learn to shoot with my non-dominate hand?
>>
>>33141809
The author of the manga himself is everything wrong with the anime community rolled into one. Overweight manchild with rape fantasies. Someone on /ak/ suggested we get drawfags together and hijack his idea and make our own.
I'd be down to help but I'm more of a writefag and even then it's been over a decade since I've tried writing.
>>
>>33141829
I'm not eye hand cross dominant and shoot rifles right handed with my roght eye, but for handguns I feel more comfortable shooting left handed with my left eye.

I still can shoot pretty well right handed, it's just less comfortable.

I have heard people will cover their dominant eye with a patch while shooting rifles, then line up shots with their non dominant eye.
>>
>>33141891
*Meant to type I shoot handguns left handed with my right eye.
>>
>>33141829
Just close your dominant eye. Some people can change eye dominance by wearing an eye patch for a few weeks. Others can't. Something aomething neuroscience. I tried for 4 days and got sick of the pirate heckling real fast. It had started to work though, had a few kinda trippy dominance switches after that.
You should be able to shoot handguns off handed though, in case something happens to your good hand.

>>33141843

Is steel-cased ammo in handguns/revolvers really that bad to use?

I kind of want to be a cheapass and just use Tula or whatever cheap steel-case for all my guns since I don't reload anyway. I know that cheap ammo like Tula is dirty as hell, but is it actually unhealthy for the guns to use steel over brass?
>>
>>33142341
Nope, steel is g2g.

People will say that it will wear your extractor faster, but extractors are cheap and the cost savings will be there long before you notice the extra wear. The same argument will be made for barrels.

I just purchased a what I thought was a Remington 870 Express Tactical HD from Dick's Sporting Goods. It was on sale for $260, plust $50 rebate, plus I had $70 in gift cards, so I got it for $140 out of pocket.

My only issue is that the tube holds 2 fewer rounds than the version on the website (4 instead of 6). My dumb ass didn't notice the mag tube was several inches shorter.

California defines a centerfire rifle with a fixed mag that can hold more than 10 rounds to be an "assault weapon." I was messing around with my SKS the other day and realized I can actually fit 11 rounds into the 10 round mag. Does that mean it's an assault weapon under California law? Or is it not, due to the mag's intended capacity being 10 rounds? Googling seems to give conflicting results. Some claim the California DOJ knows about the SKS 11 round thing, and that it's not classified as an assault weapon, though I can't find any direct evidence of that claim. Anyone know for sure?
>>
>>33144706

Haha, well I'm still really happy with the purchase overall. This is like cheaper-than-used price for a brand new shotgun.

>>
>>33146115
Rent a bunch at a range and pick the one that feels right. Each has advantages but it's ultimately preference, regardless of what diehards tell you.

>Hammer
Heavy double action to function as a safety mechanism, and a really light single action for follow-ups or range fun. Generally smoother triggers

>Striker
Spongier trigger, but consistent, light-medium weight pull so you don't have to memorize 2 trigger pulls

>Metal vs Polymer
Lower recoil vs Ease of carry

Can I make it with the 8 inch barrel, and then get an SBR stamp for it? Or do I HAVE to give it the 16 inch barrel and then cut it down later?

Newbie question
I just got my first gun (H&K VP9) about a month or so ago. Only had 2 sessions with it so far. Just ordered a 9mm bore snake and Hoppe's No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner. What else do I need to maintain my gun? How often do I need to clean it? Some say after every time it's shot, some say more like every month or so
>>
>>33148613
Havent ordered yet, k-var has been sold out of the 104's for a month or so, or at least whenever iv looked
>>
>>33149328
I use Hoppes for the bore, Breakfree CLP or Ballistol to clean everything else, wipe it down and lube friction points with white lithium grease in warm weather, I think I use Tetra. In cold weather it just gets a light coat of oil

I would get some brass brushes for hard baked carbon and some patches to make sure the barrel is completely clean from any solvents or oils. Bore snakes work pretty well though. Other than that, feed it lots of ammo and have fun!
>>
>>33149328
Dollar store q-tips (cheap q-tips are denser than good ones) to clean.

Maybe a little tin of metal polish to polish the trigger assembly with said q-tips.

Cleaning the gun after every range trip is overkill, but as long as you aren't aggressively scraping it with metal tools it won't cause any wear. Blame military training for beating that cleaning thing into peoples' heads.
>>
>>33149328
I clean after every time at the range to minimize the carbon hardening and caking on. Honestly a good cleaner will take it all off, but it's like the dishes; if you clean them every day then you spend less time all at once cramming to clean them all and you'll have better quality control.

How /bubba/ would it be if I modified my 870 with a 1/2" drill bit? In my car I keep a gasmask bag with some general use stuff that I like to keep on me for emergencies or some random hiking after work.

In it right now is:
>kabar(its in there, I like it. Not looking for knife opinions)
>couple hexamine tabs and two books of matches in a sealed container
>two compressed food bars, with a pack of 20 in the car
>a first aid kit
>canteen and canteen cup for water and melting snow or water collection
>a length of paracord
>a multitool
>a small knife

Left in there is one pocket about the size of a stanag mag pouch. It weights about two pounds as it is, so I wouldn't mind adding to it.

ive been thinking about getting a precision bolt gun. im kind of toying with the idea of getting the bolt gun in something different like .243, 6.5 creedmore, 7mm, something different. but i shoot a lot of different calibers (like 12-14) so im not crazy about the idea of a new one. i would be reloading for it obviously and shooting at a max of 200 yards and just at paper for groups.
on one hand, a bolt gun would be kind of different and its not like it would be high volume shooting so a new caliber wouldnt be a super big deal.
on the other hand, im just shooting paper at 200 so maybe a new caliber isnt necessary (i could get away with 223 but i want something a little bigger).
any thoughts or should i just stick with 308 (which i already reload). 30-06 is another consideration, ill get a garand one day

Most battle rifles are more expensive and rare than ARs and AKs, with far less modification to jerk off about.

/arg/ and /akg/ are able to have very large member bases that can support infinite circlejerking. There are always modifications, uppers, lowers, magazines, associated gear, stocks, etc.

Battle rifles available in the US are limited to FALs and their variants, M14s and their variants, and G3s. There is next to no modifications or anything associated as they are expensive as fuck and rather rare. It isn't sustainable. Like the Ashlands rollplay threads, anyone remember that?

If you're extremely concerned about overpenetration, polymer tipped varmint .223 works just fine and basically guarantees expansion, albeit shallow expansion.
Otherwise just get some speer gold dot .223. It's what cops use.

Tough shit, most 5.56 is made for either poking holes in paper or penetration/fragmentation at range. .223 will work just fine.

Random question

I'm interested in the Springfield M6. I know that the original was in .22 Hornet/.410, was 14" barrel, and is generally too goddamn expensive.
The civilian version is 18.5" barrel (fucking NFA), .22LR or .22 Hornet / .410 or .45 LC.

I've also seen some CZ reproduction versions, and I'm kinda wondering exactly what I should be looking for.

The caliber has no commonality with anything I currently have, and that's because I have no survival rifles.

Hey, /k/. /b/ here. I just bought a gun. It's a Beretta 92FS. I was wondering if my slide is supposed to lock without a mag in it when I pull the slide back, or only when I'm firing it? I don't have a magazine for it yet and pulled the slide back, but it doesn't lock unless I push the slide lock up manually. It slides forward when I disengage the slide lock, but I was wondering if maybe it was a spring off or something? Thanks, /k/.
>>
>>33155001
slide doesnt lock back unless you manually puch the slide stop up or pull the slide back on an empty mag.

Your first gun I'd assume. The slide should NOT lock back without an empty magazine inserted. The purpose is to tell the shooter the magazine is empty and make it quicker/easier to reload.

Typically it's the follower of an empty magazine that pushes the slide stop up, so yes you have to hold it up with your thumb if there's no mag. Also why the fuck do you have a gun with no magazine? Who'd you steal it from nigger?

Are there any un-intuitive legal specifics regarding sawing off your own shotgun?

I'm thinking about buying a sxs at my lgs as they often have them, and they're pretty cheap, and I've owned/carried guns for years and have never owned a double barreled shotgun. I don't plan on using it for hunting or sport or home defense or anything, I really just want a double barrel shotgun in general, it's a cool concept, and they're pretty damn cheap. That said; most of the "cheap" double barrels I see at my lgs are older and very long hunting guns. I mean that's fine and all, but I'm more interested inthe whole 'short' double barrel shotgun idea.

So basically, if I measure 18 inches from the breech, and saw; that's OK? It's not going to need an AOW stamp and they're not going to shoot my dog right?

Basically everything outside of them being combat-size 9mm hammer-fire DA/SA handguns with slide mounted safety/decockers.

Jericho is all-steel so its heavy and soaks up recoil well. It also has much different ergos and is a mechanical clone of the CZ75. Heavy gun + CZ mechanics = very controllable recoil.

92FS has an alloy frame and cut-out slide so it's lighter. It'll also have a different-feeling trigger since it's a completely different gun. The grips are fat so if you have manlet hands you might find it less comfortable. Since it's so common, you'll find better aftermarket support for it.

tldr: They're completely different outside of their classification. The only things that are sort of objective are that Jerichos are heavier, softer-recoiling guns, and that 92s are lighter with more aftermarket support.

The check if you like traps. They'll deny your application if you don't. A lot of people didn't think they liked traps but got their permits approved but the question is still up in the air about whether that is an administrative error or they've come up with more detailed investigation techniques that can confirm trap preference even when it's subconscious.

Personally, I think the second is more likely.

If you want a precision gun you should segregate brass that's been fire formed to its chamber anyway, so you're making your reloading process more complex either way. The process can be simplified somewhat by choosing a bullet diameter you already use (ie. 6mm Norma BR if you already use .243)

Lancer mags are god tier, but expensive as hell. Pmags are solid and older generations, though less refined, are still reliable. It really depends what you want the magazine to do. Sometimes steel HK magazines are best, sometimes USGI magazines are best, but usually if cost is not the limiting factor Lancer L5s are best. I've seen and know all that. I was injured and put in the Icu. When I was healed enough and ready to move to a regular room there were none available. They told me I could stay in the hospital's psych ward which would be a lot more comfortable than the icu room. I had to sign a bunch of paperwork for it. I am worried that the sheriff will call and my name will come up and I will be denied.

The afg is literally because my hand is more comfortable at a less horizontal grade. It's not gucci, just plain ergonomics. And i can't justify a pistol grip on a .22 because even I am not that big of a faggot.

Thanks for the info. If anyone else here knows, without signing anything for mental health records, could the sheriff see if you were ever on mental health or are currently on mental health disability?

Do they make hollow point 7.62x54r rounds? I'm looking to kill deer with my mosin because....well because.

Is there a reliable way to ship a firearm to yourself? I'd rather not have to pay more assholes than necessary.

Specifically across state lines via fedex/UPS/USPS

Unfortunately damn near every state I've encountered if you ship anything crossing state lines you'll need to pay the gunshop FFL jews my man.

Keltec Sub 2k or a 10/22 for my next purchase? I bought my old man a 2k for Christmas and its a blast.

I handled one at a local shop the other day. I would not pay $100 for it, let alone $179+shipping. All the decent-condition M1916s were sold by SAMCO years ago; I should know I used to have one.

huh I seem to remember reading something about the ones at j&g being liquidated from samco's leftover stock...

So as I understand it, chrome-lined barrels were mostly installed on military rifles because they're more resistant to the corrosive ammo that used to be common in the military than non-chrome lined barrels are. Now that most modern common ammo isn't corrosive anymore, chrome lining is no longer really necessary.

Is that right, or did I hear some bullshit?
>>
I'm somewhat new to guns and noticed that the lowers on the AR15 and SCAR series rifles are extremely similar. Are they based on the same design or something?
>>
>>33164957
>>33165164

I bought one. It's sitting at my FFL until my waiting period expires (fucking Commiefornia), but I got to handle it when I went in to do the paperwork. It was dirty as shit, but in fine mechanical shape. Bolt and trigger were good to go. Rust was cosmetic only - no pitting anyplace critical. I'm paying my FFL a little extra to give it a thorough cleaning and inspection before I take possession, but so far she looks perfectly okay.

Keep in mind that I have heard some mixed things about these rifles. Most seem to be fine, but a few people have gotten bad ones and had to send them back. Again, I seem to have gotten lucky, but your mileage may vary.

They are. Century bought all of SAMCO's inventory two(?) years ago and now it's hitting the retailers. The one I looked at had a SAMCO import mark on the barrel (which makes it a pre-2002 import) just like my old M1916.

Basically, your best option is some coconut oil with a bunch of petroleum additives.

>>33164180
Well, if you hate Japs get the 03, if you hate Gooks get M14ery. Low number Rock Island Armory 1903s were improperly heat treated and could, highly unlikely, fail on you. Modern Springfield M1As are shit, older ones use forged or actual M14 receivers so try to get an older one and Norinco has been and will always be shitty knockoffs.

Loosely. The ergonomics of an AR-15 are essentially perfect (commence shitposting), and all US military and police are now used to them, so they try to make a lot of new guns mirror the controls.

How, if at all, does the reciprocation of the bolt in an automatic weapon affect felt recoil? The mass of the bolt or slide flying back would make it feel stronger than a single shot with a locked breech, right?
>>
>>33173224
Thing is I'm not sure if they're real or worth what the owner is asking
>>
>>33173228
The felt recoil would be less since the moving parts are absorbing and using the recoil/gases to operate, where as a bolt action or breech load puts all that energy into your shoulder
>>
>>33173252
Typically there should be proof marks on the barrels of old black powder guns, may be on the bottom so you'd disassemble it to find them and those could be used to date/verify them.

TLDR if someone fucks with you while driving, can you shoot them and not get screwed for it?

Some guy in a truck was driving like an asshole earlier and i blocked him from shifting lanes to get ahead a few times just because i can. Ended up having to cut him off a few seconds later because there was a line of 10+ cars stopped in 1 lane at a light. He got beside me and tried to shine a light in my face before turning right and going on his way. If id of had a gun in the car, could i of shot at him/his truck and claimed self defense or something? Someone else was in the car with me and could back my story up.

Green usually means unexperienced, especially in combat situations.

A far less likely possibility might be that it's a way that a marine refers to a member of the army. I don't know if that actually happens, but it doesn't seem too farfetched.
