Is this a realistic depiction of the pacific war?
Mel Gibson should make more war movies.
>>33139746
yes 100%. Also Mad Mel needs to get back to buisness and make more USA USA USA movies.
>>33139797
>>33140756
It's rumored he's in talks to do Suicide Squad 2.
>>33139746
that motherfucker has to have some damn strong wrists to fire a BAR one handed
>>33140805
/pick up a whole half a human being
>>33140867
Like Thorin Oakenshield, except a log might actually stop a bullet from 20 yards away.
>>33139746
this scene pissed me off. like seriously? gore is great and all but this was just them trying to make it as "brutal" as possible without a concern for realism. saving private ryan was gore done right. this scene was not. dont get me wrong, i did enjoy the rest of the movie.
>>33140917
this was specifically witnessed.
>>33140936
source?
>>33139746
>this webm is what USMC actually believes
that being said, holy shit fuck hollywood!
>body clearly has bullet holes
>must be good as a shield
too fucking retarded.
stop watching movies.
>>33140964
Not him and don't have the books on hand, but this was reported as happening by several guys who were there.
>>33140993
>"we were totally not watching the enemy or totally not completely pinned down and totally watched some guy run across the battlefield with a BAR and our mates torso"
>>33141064
Skew it in any way you see desirable, that's what the people there said. Mel likely wouldn't have considered a ridiculous scene seriously otherwise.
>>33139746
> CGI BAR firing
disgusting
>>33139746
He rips off way more than 20 rounds in that scene. I fucking hate it when guns in movies have bottomless mags, or as many rounds as the plot necessitates.
>>33141280
>implying his zombie bro didn't reload his BAR for him between shots
>>33140867
Basically the equivalent of picking up a BAR one handed
>>33141159
Mel Gibson, the main actor of Waterworld and three Mad Max movies, would not have done a scene if he thought it was ridiculous?
>>33139746
only if you're a big guy
>>33141444
usually thats the problem with war movies nowadays, scenes are usually based off anecdotes (see The Longest Day and the cricket/Kar98k Bolt sound) and people end up thinking that that sort of thing must've happened all the time
>>33141444
mel gibson water world
>>33141444
Mel wasn't in waterworld
>>33140781
Fuck you and fuck Gibson.
>>33141444
>Mel Gibson, the main actor of Waterworld
Get out idiot.
Never saw the thing in theaters, is the BDrip out already?
>>33139746
It bugs me that the Japanese all pop up out of cover to get shot.

Okay, I hope you like to bottom.

>gore is great and all
LOOK AT ALL THAT EDGEEEEE
>>33142221
Can I get middle?
>>33142221
Wait, what?
>>33142216
It bugged me that the IJA had zero initial defenses at the Cliff and didn't even bother to cut down the net (in the movie).
>>33141064
I know it is still anecdotal, but when something insane like that happens in combat everybody tends to take notice. People with "halos" over their heads draw a lot of attention.
>>33142246
Sure, anon. You want a standard front to back or more advanced position?
Crazy shit happens in war.
>>33140985
>USMC

That was Kevin Costner.

In the first half, yes.
In the second half you have Mujahideen spin jumping into spider holes and slowly marching towards a patrol base while firing their weapons like the beginning of Terminator 2.
>>33142991
>>33142960
I was disappointed they didn't do his stretcher scene right.
But yeah... fucker multiple times went directly through IJA fire and hand grenades to get guys out, a lot less sneaking around like they had in the movie to point he was pulling guys away from Japs who were only 8 yards away.
The grenade that got his leg, he decided to treat himself and waited for five hours before a stretcher bearer came. Then while they were carrying him they came under attack from a Jap Tank. He crawled off the stretcher and told them to take a more critically injured man. Another soldier started hand carrying him off where he took a round to the arm from a sniper, shattering bone. Fucker then found a broken rifle, and used it to splint his arm and then crawled 300 yards to an aide station.
>>33142833
>did he receive the MoH?
Fucking boss!
>>33144218
I went into the movie thinking 'wow this guy is a literal autist' and could he be any more of a fucking faggot, but he definitely redeems himself
>>33139746
No, a realistic depiction would show the war being caused by the Jews.
>>33139746
I actually read somewhere that said this was the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan.
>>33140917
All recent movies are gratuitously gorey and grim-dark for no reason at all. Fury was a pile of shit, similar to this.
>>33145468
honestly hacksaw was one of the few if only films that had me LITERALLY uncomfortable watching it, just from the sheer fucking suspense
"edge of your seat" isn't a meme sometimes
>>33140936
>Exit from cover and approach an enemy that was previously aiming at you, suddenly stop aiming at you, while you can now fire the bar from the fore-arm, one-handed, without aiming, while removed from cover
A guess you can say he has the high ground that allowed him to mow the fucking gooks down?
Why don't they teach "walking fire zombie shield" to the special forces or Rangers? Is it because of faggots in the military nowadays?
>>33145498
With comical scenes like in OP, how did you manage to suppress hysterically laughing?
>>33145515
Not him, but the movie was uncomfortable to watch for me because of how cringey it was (like in the scene in the OP), while the movie wanted you to take it seriously at the same time. It was kind of painful to withstand the utter bullshit, really. And then all the critics go and hail this as one of the best war movies of all time.
Not even fucking close. Braveheart and The Patriot were even better than this.
>>33142991
>saving private ryan

Bad news for you pal.
Everything that happened after the beach landing scene is a fairy tale written by someone with absolutely no clue about combat or realism.

>>33142833
now i slightly more believe that the scene in Fury could have happened, but i still don't get it why they not just blow up the tank?
I don't get why that movie was rated so highly. It's such a flat, tropey eye-roller.
>>33147549
Many of the German infantry units by this time were barely trained conscripts who had no munitions other than hand grenades and rifles, if that.
>>33142991
Band of Brothers
Stalingrad (obviously the german one)
Black Hawk Down
There Be Dragons
>>33147549
Fury is based on Death Traps, from which that story is taken. It was likely exaggerated in the book and obviously more-so in the film. There are aspects that lend it credibility though, for example the bouncing of HE shells on city streets was common practice and is even in published 'Lessons Learned' document.
>imma use that bulletproof corpse to protect mah own body
Hollywood logic.
>>33139746
The proximity of the fighting certainly is. Those last bloody battles in the Pacific are unique in that men were killed primarily by small arms rather than artillery, as was the norm everywhere else and, generally, in all wars for the preceding century.
Never read any accounts of Americans using human shields. In 'A Nightmare on Iwo Jima' the Japs do use mutilated corpses to hid from flametanks, though.
>>33142991
The Pacific is a good watch for this, but it's based on memoirs and so if people seem invincible at all it's because they actually survived the war.
Unlike Saving Private Ryan it's not a fictional story based on historical fact/anecdotes, so I don't know if it technically counts for what you're asking for.
I liked this movie.
How blacklisted from Hollywood is Gibson because of his whole thing against the Jews?
>>33147590
what the fuck am I looking at? This is only a step above Commando in terms of plausibility.
>>33147549
With what? They were lucky to have a Volkssturmgewehr by then, or a matching uniform, SS or no SS. Most soldiers were untrained children and pensioners, even if they did have proper weapons, they wouldn't know what to do with it.

The Pacific and that movie showed that the Japanese only lost because their only tactic was to Zerg rush the enemy without any considerations for their lives.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific are excellent. They're made by the same people, and done in the same style.
>>33152141
What is this movie about? It's clearly a Scandinavian country but as far as I know between Denmark and Norway, Norway was the only one that put up an even modest fight. But I didn't think their uniforms looked like that.
>>33153358
>>33153428
It's about Danish Soldiers at the beginning of the invasion
>>33153486
Oh really, I didn't realize the Danes actually fought back at all with their actual military. I'll have to watch it, it looks like a good movie. I love seeing scenes where they portray what most of combat back then was - small fireteams with bolt actions firing off tons of suppressing fire with few actual hits. Instead of the constant machine guns and bombs that most movies depict.
>>33152141
>No ridiculous and cheesy action sequences.
>No retarded levels of shock and gore to the point where it isn't even remotely believable.
Why are some small, meaningless Eurofag countries better at making decent combat films than billion dollar Hollyjew studios in the USA?
>>33153572
Because Hollyjew is only concerned with demonizing the Germans and showing the audiences lots of Aryan blood and guts. The fact that you're noticing it means you're breaking through their conditioning, keep going anon. Don't stop.
>>33153572
Most Hollywood films are meant to be action movies, in worst case "patriotic" action movie and which average movie goer would watch something in which 90% of the time nothing really happens
>halfway realistic Iraq war movie
>85% watching grunts doing their boring MOS while they (and the audience) are waiting for something to happen
>10% small IED explosion and minor fire fight with some insurgence
> 5% watching grunts getting the combat action badge

>Saving Private Ryan
Tom Hanks never reloads in combat in that movie. His 20/30 round Thompson Magazine seems to last him through multiple battles.
>>33150457
Their only mistake with that tactic was not having enough soldiers to effectively do it. The Russians used this strategy well.
>>33155340
I haven't seen that movie in years, but I clearly recall him reloading immediately after firing a handful of rounds when attacking the halftrack before meetin Ryan and the only other time I can remember him shooting is on the beach for covering fire. I haven't seen that movie in damn near 8 years now though.
>>33155141
I know a lot of folks saw serious combat and got home in coffins.
I was rather parodizing all the cheesy patriotic war movies which consist of brave soldiers mowing down savage germans/arabs/taliban 24/7.
>>33155428
>this old meme
The Soviets were heedless of losses, but the idea that they engaged in human wave attacks every Tuesday is bullshit. They threw men into hopeless holding actions in the early stages of Barbarossa, yes, but everything past the Battle of Moscow sees the Soviets getting their shit together. By the end of the war, they were pulling operations with the same complexity and efficacy that the Germans had demonstrated at their prime, and at three times the scale.
>>33152141
Thanks buddy, that was fantastic.
That MG 42 tho lol
I guess "1944" looks pretty good, too.

Death Traps has long since been debunked. It's a bunch of hogwash. The man who wrote it was a lieutenant in charge of tank repair and munitions supply back in the rear echelon. He never saw combat, never had any training or education on modern tank warfare. The book is rife with glaring inaccuracies and outright fabrications. Cooper wrote the book when he was already an old man, and his war memories (what little there were of them in the first place) were shit. In addition, he ghost-wrote it.
Here's one of the summaries for the criticism of Death Traps:
https://tankandafvnews.com/2015/01/29/debunking-deathtraps-part-1/

>>33145498
I had the same feelin watching Land of Mine. It was about german pows clearing mines in the danish coast. I think it is worth a watch.
>>33158272
I'd be more worried about a malnourished GI carrying 50 kilograms of corpse in one hand and 9 kilograms of BAR in another. While sprinting. Over hard unknown terrain in the middle of the battlefield. And shooting the .30-06 in full auto. And hitting multiple enemies in cover, while under fire and engulfed in smoke, with shrapnel and stray bullets flying all around. Than we can talk about corpses stopping rifle rounds. But I'll give you a hint: a 7,62x51mm NATO round will go straight through an entire pick-up truck sideways in any place with exception of the engine block. Make of that what you will.
>>33156109
Soviet Deep Battle doctrine was actually more advanced and more flexible than the Blitzkrieg, so much so it laid the foundations for the American AirLand Battle, which is very similar except with a bigger emphasis on aircraft.
>>33142991
How come no one mentioned Generation Kill yet? It's more relevant to modern warfare than any of this stuff.
Maybe if it showed at the end of his life he was smothered to death by an immigrant in a GI hospital while images of his coal burning daughter and faggot son flashed in his mind then yeah maybe.
>>33158177
Im Westen nichts neues.
>>33158255
Which is why I called it an exaggerated story, but even the link you posted admits some of the book is of value, specifically when he's discussing things he witnessed first hand.
It's ironic that Death Traps was responsible for many anti-Sherman memes but has since become a meme itself for people who haven't even read it.
>>33139746
>Shooting a BAR with one arm
>The recoil is none existing
>Unlimited ammo cheat activated
It's about as realistic as it gets
>>33158391
It's inaccurate where it matters most. Death Traps is probably at least in part responsible for the "Five Shermans for one Panther" myth, and Connor had no fucking idea of what he was talking about when he went outside of his own limited rear echelon experience. No one would have said a word against him if the book was only about tank repair and not a sensationalist rag designed for appealing to the uninformed public.
>>33158516
Sherman hate started before the war even ended, mostly be journalists and especially after BoB/Hurtgen. Articles like pic related elicited a response by officers of still-active tank battalions;
http://www.digitalhistoryarchive.com/uploads/2/5/4/1/25411694/article_by_us_army_tank_battalion_commander_-_tank_versus_tank_1946.pdf
People seem to think Cooper was intentionally lying or doing so with malice when he was just parroting others and exaggerating to sell books. It shouldn't taint his whole book though. Even people like Nicholas Moran (the Chieftain) who are known for addressing Sherman myths still make note that it's worth a read.
>>33152141
Such a great movie.
Norway has a movie called the The Kings Choice about their invasion as well but it follows the kings escape from Oslo rather than a group of soldiers like in April 9th.
Lol you idiots obviously know nothing about ww2 or the weapons they used. The BAR (browning automatic rifle) had a special fire rate adjuster, one being very slow and one being faster. This scene may seem a little over the top, but it demonstrates precisely why this feature was added, so a soldier could advance with rapid, yet controllable fire.
>>33142833
>see blondie, faggots inventing shit after the war
