What exactly does the American military need even more money for?
>>
>>33132827
To buy whatever that thing is.
>>
to prop up the value of the dollar.
>>
The military is the biggest welfare queen out there.

V-22
F-35
America class LHA
San Antonio LHD
The no bid contracts in Iraq
Bases in Korea
Africa Command
It just goes on and on and on
Wasteful inefficient shit
Giving the contractors bags of money
Going around looking for threats and conflicts to exaggerate and exacerbate to justify the huge budget
>>
To keep fifth column communist cucks like Bernouts back at home in line and butthurt
>>
Bigger question is, why do we elect officials that want to frivolously overspend on defense?
>>
Even more dickwaving.
>>
Please, come into my motorpool, look the mechanics in the eye and tell them we don't need any more money to repair the three decades old equipment they're struggling to maintain.
>>
>>33132957
Lolwut
>>33132968
Because you wouldn't get funding to run a campaign if you advocated defense cutbacks
>>
>>33132827
Practice.

Practicing bombing.
Practicing shooting.
Practicing driving.
Practicing flying.
Practicing spying.
Practicing muhwelfare.
Practicing tanking.
Practicing boating.
Practicing logistics.
Practicing repair.

And paying people to keep being good at those things so that if they need to go to war, they are practiced and ready.
>>
>>33132993
Perhaps if they didnt spend on these things >>33132952 then there would be funding for essential services like that?

This would be the sequester shit they pulled, they cut back from readiness and training rather than bloated procurement or close any foreign deployments
So that in a few years they could argue that the military is falling apart, dangerously underprepared, need mo monies for dem projects
>>
>>33132993
Most of them should be laid off. They are not supplying a legitimate demand.
>>
>>33132827
To help continue giving the finger to the rest of the world.
>>
Do you have any idea how expensive it is to Javelin every square inch of Suadiranafgairaqistan?
>>
>>33133036
Meanwhile, you don't have national healthcare
And all those people you are giving the finger to do
And are living longer and are healthier
>>
>>33133089
I can't believe you commies don't understand this. I pay for my health care with the money you give the government to pay for your health care, either directly through taxes or taken from your employer before you even get a whiff of it. You also pay a little bit of some NEET shit's healthcare. I do not.
>>
>>33133089
>national healthcare
>freedom
Pick one
It's not the federal government's job to keep you from dying.
>>
>>33132993
Will the money go to your motor pool?
Or to more pork barreling and wars?
>>
>>33133129
America does not have national healthcare
>>33133173
How does healthcare deny you freedom?
>>
>>33133209
How does increasing the number of aspects of your life in the hands of the government give you freedom?

Except those are all to replace three-decades-old equipment too.

Are you forgetting just how much fucking money we spent throughout the Cold War, and how we're still using a lot of shit manufactured before you were born?
>>
>>33133256
>if you have a healthcare system funded by the government your life is in the hands of the government
>OOOOooooOOOOoooo scary guvmit!

And all the while simultaneous to this you demand expansion of this same government you want us to fear and insist it be granted more military spending

And you do it on the Internet, invented by the government
Via a computer, invented by the government
Purchased with and its shipments tracked with barcodes, commercialised by the government
Delivered to you by containerised shipping, invented by the government
Transported on interstates, built by the government
Are you eating meat for dinner tonight? Inspected to ensure quality health and safety by the government
And et cetera
>>
>>33132993
And we need those vehicles to defend what, exactly? Our crumbling overseas empire?
>>
>>33133303
>throughout the Cold War
>war
Well yes you see that was a kind of defacto war where the large quantities of military procurement and overseas bases was supposed to prevent Soviet aggression
Now I don't know if you're aware of this, but, well... the Cold War is over
Yet you still have these bases and deployments and stratospheric military expenditure
>>
>>33133351
>the Cold War is over
Putin and Kim Jong Un seem to disagree, what with their military posturing and minor land grabs left and right.

So tell me, when would be a good time to ramp up military procurement if we cut it back now? When the Russian Army is rolling through Paris, or when Seoul disappears in a mushroom cloud? Should we welsh on our long-standing treaties then and tell them they're on their own?
>>
>>33133089
I don't care about those jerkoffs. I have money. I pay for my health insurance use and don't get the bare minimum/get that freeloader the fuck out of the hospital gov service.
>>
>>33133306
When did I insist on more military spending? I hate all government spending.
>the government controls a lot of things
>we should really just let them have everything

You should be happy we can spend billions.

You see, for other nations to compete they need to spend as much $$, but they can't. So their wars have to be paid in bodies to even come close to touching us. But we also have an abundance of bodies too...Well trained, well fed, well educated (relative, of course) bodies. That's impossible to compete with.

Now from the US perspective...Money is cheap. The gov't can currently buy debt for almost zero interest. And if interest goes up, we can just print more money, backed by the full faith of a AAA rated country. We can make so much money that our wars can be waged more safely than Sunday interstate traffic on the I-10.

This is why I have 'balance the budget's fags. Borrowing at 0.1% and paying it back in 100 years is a SPECTACULAR deal for our country.
>>
We're one of the most powerful countries in the world. Why not have an army to match? Plus, it's like being the head of a mafia: maybe you're te head honcho, but there's also a huge target on your head. We need an army that makes the other countries shit themselves, so we don't get taken over and royally fucked.

>Putin
Haven't you been listening to the God Emperor?

But anyway aside from that, Russia is responding as any nation would to a hostile military alliance encroaching onto its sphere of influence and on its border. The fact that its a shit government just makes a belligerent response all the more predictable.

NATO - why does it even exist after the end of the Cold War - expanding eastward, in violation to an agreement Bush Snr and Jim Baker made to Gorbachov to allow Germany to reunify I might add, is something they view as a threat

They have been invaded numerous times from the west and the last time it happened they lost something like 25 million people

What would the USA do if Canada or Mexico joined the Warsaw Pact and Russian troops built bases on their border?

>Norks
North Korea is a paper tiger, the Pentagon couldn't ask for a better justification
It cannot invade or attack anyone
It could retaliate to an attack, or a perceived attack
But it does not have the capapability to attack
Its equipment is decades old and doesn't had fuel or ammunition
Its troops are starving half stunted peasants riddled with rickets and goitres and intellectual disabilities
But it rattles its sabre and makes ridiculous threats and the pentagon can point at it as proof for mo monies fo dem projects

Now if you're worried about the one real threat, them reacting to a mistake or a perceived threat, then you would want to step down tensions and that means withdrawing American forces from the peninsula
And you might want to look at the souths military, its massive, well equipped, well trained
But I remember reading in Chalmer Johnsons book Blow Back quotes from generals and strategic planners that even if there was unification and no threat, the bases would remain
So what's it really about?

>we have to have massive spending because muh slippery slope
Meanwhile that same argument used for healthcare or the environment is dismissed out of hand
>>
>>33133426
>my autism demands everything be reduced down to a binary for/against guvmit

>"Reagan taught us deficits don't matter"
>so lets spend all we want on the military
>but no we need to cut back healthcare and education and the EPA, government spending is out of control just look at the debt
>>
>>33133397
>Putin and Kim Jong Un seem to disagree, what with their military posturing and minor land grabs left and right.

Well according to our new commander in chief, we don't need to worry about Putin because he's our friend now, and Kim is a nobody who only threatens war when he wants something. South Korea and Japan could take him no problem, again even our new president agrees on this. Asia can defend itself.

>So tell me, when would be a good time to ramp up military procurement if we cut it back now?

I mean, a good time to reduce our forces was a decade ago. We don't need an empire. It didn't work for Britain, and it won't work for us.

>When the Russian Army is rolling through Paris, or when Seoul disappears in a mushroom cloud? Should we welsh on our long-standing treaties then and tell them they're on their own?
You're living in a fantasy world fueled by the military industrial complex.
>>
The Korean deployment is incredibly top heavy, 3 generals to command logistics and 3 combat brigades?
Lol who do they think they're fooling
They're in it for the cushy job and office

Anon, these are the functions of the federal government.
1) Military
2) Tariffs
3) National Highways
4) Border and immigration control
5) Foreign diplomacy

Now, if you want your terrible socialist healthcare, you can have it on a state level. Just don't force it on the whole country.
