Hey /k/, I figured I'd ask this here since its most suited to this board:
In early April of 2016, I bought a Russian GP-5 gas mask from a stall in Berlin, just for a bit of a laugh. I've worn it 2-3 times while cleaning the toilet, ect. for no more than half an hour at a time. Its only recently that I have heard that GP-5 filters can/could have asbestos in them. Is there any likelihood that I may end up with asbestos damage later in life or any other lung issues? I ask this for a friend as well who also bought one, but I have no idea if he has worn his at all in the past year.
Mask came identical to picture with a small rubber plug in the bottom of the filter. Thanks in advance /k/.

Did you get a GP-5 or a GP-6? Both look fairly similar, as I own a GP-5 which has a coal based filter.
Asbestos hasn't been used in Soviet filters since the late 40s/early 50s.

this is true but i wouldn't put it past the ruskies to still use it sometimes
anyway mesothelioma usually is caused by prolonged exposure OP, I wouldn't worry about it

Just remove filter and wash thoroughly and you should be good to keep wearing it.

No.
Even the filter had a crack, it'd take more exposure than that for any damage to occur.

Ok thank god. I didn't really expect the filter to contain any since for me to buy it in 2016 it can't be more than 30 years old, but even still I guess I won't be using it again.
Just looked at it again closer, (OP here) and the canister bears the markings ГП-5, (GP-5) and below that the numbers: 90-576-111-74. I guess that means it was made in 1974 or something

Made in 1957
Enjoy your lung cancer. A single fibre can cause mesothelioma.
>he killed himself whilst fantasy role playing cleaning the toilet.
if the filter isn't clearly physically broken it's safe to use. the stuff is inside that filter and it stays there unless you put the thing in pieces or something as stupid.
doesn't probably protect you from anything though.

this might help. You should be fine tho'

The filter can still protect against NBC if the seal hasn't been broken, which it has. Even with a filter that's been open for days, it can protect against CS despite losing the NBC protection
