Chopper in the neighborhood doing whatever the other afternoon. Got me thinking, could you hit a hovering helicopter with your rifle?

>Could you hit a hovering helicopter with your rifle?
Yeah probably.
>>33122477
oh okay, thanks.
>>33122543
Just depends how far away. 400 yards? If you're dialed in correctly, sure.
>>33122345
you could throw a rock at it too
>>33122558
How do you account for drop though? Is it different on such a steep angle? What about wind drift?
>>33122583
Some scopes have what's called a BDC, or a bullet drop compensator, a series of lines that, assuming you're using a gun of the correct barrel length with the correct ammunition, will place the round where the dashed lines meet the vertical line, pic related
>>33122609
That's for horizontal aim. You'll have to use a ballistic calculator that can account for aiming angle.
>>33122609
I'm well aware of these scopes, and while I don't use them, I'm used to accounting for drop when hunting coyotes... But I live in the prairies and shooting on angles is a foreign concept to me.
>>33122629
I think that OPs pic related has the angle compensation
>>33122632
I live in New Mexico and people say it's useful for shooting into/out of canyons
>>33122689
That's probably just regular horizontal compensation, all depends on the settings of the range finder, but I would get about 26 inches at 400y on my usual 308 loads.
>>33122758
My bad I thought those were degrees, you're right
Would need to read up on anti air combat with small arms. It's a lot more difficult than you think. The helicopter almost shields itself since the rotor is causing hurricane force winds around it.
>>33122789
How would these winds affect the use of helicopter mounted weapons?
Angled firing raises your POI. You'd have to plug the range and angle into a ballistic calculator.
>>33122789
A projectile will not deflect much in the short time it's in the rotor wash.
>>33122345
light it up with your 10/22. what could possibly go wrong?
>>33122583
Just wait until it is flying straight towards you then shoot rapidly above it and work your shots down until you hit it.

Very effective against A-10s as well.
>>33122956
On the face of it, there's so many physics involved from shooting from a mobile aerial vehicle.
In reality, there's a lot more that what we thought

>Brat 2
You're a cool guy anon.
>>33122345
What is this rangefinder scope called ?
>>33123561
Not a scope, just a rangefinder.

>>33123772
Thank you !
>>33122345
Probably. Live stream it or you're a faggot.
>>33122345
Brazilian police helicopter got shot down a moment ago.
>>33122583
When aiming up the drop is more significant, when aiming down, its less.
>>33122345
Those colors, v a p o u r w a v e
>>33122345
just get a big laser and fuck with their eyes and camera/nvg equipment.
>>33122583
The same way you would account for firing at a long distance target at high angle.
Get a ballistic pocket calculator.

Shut up you fucking retard
