It's a like a fraternity club for the military. Mark Owens even wrote about how the Seals in training had to pick who made it and who didn't by anonymous voting, so basically, it's not about how hard working you are, but really more about kissing your team mates asses to get in. This makes the SEALs a circlejerk.

They get the high profile missions, which gets the embedded reporters hot and juicy and eager to use adjectives. The public then gets served this propaganda material and shoots cum all over it. If those Navy Seals had been used to take out taliban wannabe commanders and Iraqi officers selling the American weapons they'd received to dubious militias, there would not have been more than a footnote in the news and no one would have given a shit about them.

But that's how you ensure your budgets gets padded, congress style.

Maybe if the SEALs spent more time doing Infantry drills they'd know things like how to pack a bergen, navigate or advance to contact. Since they disregard all those things to focus on extremely watered down "unarmed combat" and other things they aren't good at, it explains their dismal record.

It all started witha movie with Charlie Sheen in the 80s. Before that the hot buzzword that make 10 year old boys and neckbeards drool was special forces or green berets. This was because of a movie by John Wayne.

People romanticized them into being some kind of super men. When they are just people trained to a mediocre on average competency at several skills. Then the hype train comes in. They also have the ability to clasify and declasify what they want. So unless other people leak the info, we only hear about their successes. Just wait therebwill be a movie about Marsoc or Rangers and this group will take over the public fascination for a while.

Whats funny is when you are in the military and live in quarters. Participate in hobbies and activities. That soldiers participate in you notice things. Spec ops soldiers dont win marathons. They don't win triathlons. They don't clean up at idpa night. They do better than average at all of them. The exception is when they have a hobby they train really hard at outside of work.

Btw people that assume ANY special forces groups turns out fighters who are at an elite level are dreaming. Elite fighters train in fighting for hours every day. Soldiers even elite ones train maybe once a month. Now that is enough to put them at a level above the average joe with no training, but he would get wrecked by any average or better fighter at any mma gym.

Delta trains BJJ and wins medals when it comes to BJJ. Average delta guy who is in the unit for a decade uses it on average between exactly zero and one times in total. You DONT want to go hand to hand, there is rarely anything to gain. If you can shoot someone, shoot them. If you cant, go for their knees, immobilize them. Someone really has to know what he is doing, and not only that but also how to manage his stress in a life or death hand to hand situation in order to warrant that kind of shit.

Its literally not applicable in modern military. On the odd chance that your gun jams or you are mid-reload, the rest of your squad has your back.
